I've been sitting here for like 20 minutes trying to figure out which penguin this one could be.
My first thought was a king penguin, but their chicks are all brown, they don't have cream colored bellies like this. Unless it's supposed to be a chick losing its baby feathers?

a rockhopper penguin maybe? their chicks have a white belly

I'd say probably rockhopper too, although it could also be a fairy/little penguin

All the rats are AMAZING this month, but I think tonight's has to be my favorite with the dark blue

the smudgy pattern is a little much in my opinion ;x; there were so many outcomes from this litter that it's not surprising that one of them ended up falling flat for me, haha. it's still a very sweet looking pup, though! and i do like the freckle spots near the eyes

I think you're right. I totally spaced out rockhoppers when I was thinking about "popular" or "recognizable" penguin species. ^^"
It does look more like this rockhopper chick than this fairy chick, the contrast between the brown and white is more pronounced rather than blended. So I agree, probably a rockhopper.
