tenanye looks at her new coven leader, a shy smile on her face. "so..." she asks hesitantly, pushing her hair behind her ear. "what role will i fill?"

nadia hums in response, her brows pulling together. "honestly, i don't really know. certainly not a mage - not with your demeanor. and i would say gatherer, but..." her face twists into a scowl. "i don't think you and james would get along. so, how do you feel about being a tamer?" she asks, and tenanye smiles brightly.

"that seems like a good fit. i really enjoyed being with animals, so i might be good at it!" nadia smiles at her, her expression proud.

"that's settled then. oh, we'll have you meet james before you go on your first patrol with me. james! come here!" she calls, and soon tenanye can hear the crunching of leaves under boots.

"whadda want, 'm busy." the man asks, giving tenanye a quick once over before scowling at nadia.

"james, this is tenanye. she's going to be a tamer." the man gives her a nod, then turns on his heel and walks back into the forest.

tenanye shuffles her feet awkwardly, giving nadia a small smile. "he doesn't seem too friendly." she says shyly, and nadia laughs.

"thats one word for it! hopefully someone will come along to mellow him out, but i don't think that will be you. come on, i'll show you the territory!" she chirps, and tenanye happily follows her. despite the surliness of the gatherer, she enjoys nadias company, and thinks she'll grow to enjoy this clan.

the hunt had been uneventful so far. the pair walked around, hoping to catch tracks or a
whiff of something that would make their hunt more interesting. chicken and carrots were
apprentice-work, they wanted something sizeable. eventually, jacto held up a finger,
signalling corvus to come closer. the witch obliged, and examined what the oread was
inspecting: deer tracks. jacto signalled again. two. north.

the pair followed the tracks swiftly. while neither had much experience tracking animals, an
earlier bout of rainfall left the ground just soft enough to emphasize each step, so they were
lucky. they found the two deer within a half hour, grazing upon stray shoots of grass that
were just peeking through the soil. the poised themselves to attack, squatting low and
readying themselves for an attack.

a twig snapped to the south, causing the pair of deer to look up from the grass with wide
eyes. jacto and corvus took it as their moment to pounce; dagger nestled in one palm, and
the dark magic swirling in the other. before either could utter an incantation, a feral wolf
leaped at the deer. the mutt was followed by two others, and one final wolf who seemed
only a bit larger than a pup. corvus and jacto were both taken aback, and while the leader
didn't usually play well with others, she also didn't turn down a fight. as jacto looked to her
for a plan of action, corvus began casting spells as she saw fit.

the fight was over quick, and the two deer lay dead at the feet of four ladies, having shed
their wolf form.corvus and jacto shealthed their weapons. it wasn't a clean fight, and the
werewolves had seemed to hunt more for fun than food. corvus liked this. jacto thought the
blood dripping from their chins was gross. neither spoke, merely sizing up the she-wolves with
crossed arms and raised chins. the werewolves did the same; chests heaving and shoulders
slouched.

the leader of the werewolves broke the silence first. "these deer are ours." her voice had a hint
of a growl to it. threatening.

corvus was unflinching, and she gave a cold smile. "these deer were on our coven's territory.
which also means you're trespassing." she responded. she had no growl, but the threat was loud
and clear.

"i'm sure i won't need to point out that we outnumber you." the rivalling leader bore an almost
amused smile now, parting blood-stained lips to show glinting canines, and the ladies behind her
shifted back into their wolf forms. they sat low on their haunches, ready to lunge.

jacto's blade slide from her sleeve to her hand in milliseconds, but corvus touched her wrist with
a warning two fingers.

"no need to fight, we're all civilized here," she announced, with a wicked smirk," what do you
want in exchange for the deer? a place in the coven? i can make you my second-in-command,
the heir to my throne-"

jacto cut her off sharply, "but cruor-" corvus' two fingers dug into her wrist, silencing her.

"cruor will do as i say." the founder hissed, turning back to the wolves. "as i was saying, i can
make you the next in line to lead the coven. i can give your followers distinguished roles.
whatever you want." she paused, "or, we can split the deer evenly and you can leave quietly.
if you need a warning to not come back, that can be arranged." corvus muttered, absent-
mindedly twirling a dark smoke of magic between her fingers. "make your choice."

[ corvus asks the coven of no stars for a companion ]
[ corvus tries to coerce the werewolves to join: she will demote cruor and replace her with
the group's leader, or she will split the deer so group each gets one. worst case, she will
fight ]
