I know, right? It irks me to no end when people mock anime. It's no different than anything on American television- it's an art form involving all the action, sexuality, and comedy in everyone's favorite everyday television shows. Some of the fans are a little obsessive, sure, but there's nothing WRONG with it. Nobody rolls their eyes at Family Guy, Simpsons, or South Park. Why should anime be any different?

I think part of the reason is the childhood experience. You'll find that half the people who criticize anime watched Pokemon, or other similar anime as kids, and base their biases off of the cheesy dubs and stupid plotlines of those shows without stopping to realize that other anime exist without such concepts.

... Sorry. I'm kinda ranting now...
My dad watches anime, to a degree.
But I don't see him liking Ouran... |D

@Lore- I entirely agree with you. People just can't seem to get the fact that not all anime is like American ones like Pokemon, or the overrated Japanese ones (I will not say the names just in case anyone are fans of these.). There are plenty of other anime, and I have found many that are definately interesting. When you look closely, you can tell the plot lines are detailed and must've been well-though and planned at an excruciating amount.

You know, when someone tells me a storyline, I'm usually ten times more interested when they tell me it's an anime. XD

Usually, I find anime have more plot than most of the movies I've seen, or any TV shows I've watched.

Our school doesn't have Ouran, unfortunately. But I borrowed each manga book from Juliet. She has each one that's been released in the USA, so... Yay?

I was thinking about cosplay options for Halloween, and I realized I could also pull off Haruhi, if I tried. Now I really can't decide... Ouran? Hetalia? Some other random anime character? Agh... At least I have another 9-10 months to think about it. |D
