The Flickering Flame Coven is a coven hidden in a forest. Though their surroundings may seem primitive and wild, the society they have built is anything but. In the center of the forest is a functioning village with a farm nearby and the villagers are friendly with the neighboring creatures. The most common members of the coven are witches and wizards, elves, and fae. Less common are centaurs and weres, while banshees, jinn, satyrs and nymphs are rarely found due to their fickle nature. Though there are streams and rivers in the forest, they are not enough to support sea-dwellers, while vampires are chased out due to the threat they pose. Lastly, the forces of the spirit world rarely bother to interact with this coven leading to angels and demons never being found as a member.

sugarcane hills

the sugarcane hills coven is hidden in plain sight - located in-between meadows, hills and a lush forest. a large river flows through the hills, making it the perfect place to set up shop.
they aren't picky about who enters the coven, believing that any species who finds them deserves to be a part of their family. the coven leader is usually a witch, wizard or an elf, although faes can also ascend to power. they are friendly with allies, but keep their cards close to their chest around others.

[second last post before food consumption is necessary]
a heavy fog hung low around her as corvus patrolled her borders. her steps were light, silent,
calculated. she didn't want to be heard or seen. she was guarding her home, and if it came to
it, she would fight tooth and nail against anyone who trespassed the borders she had set. this
was her coven-ground now, and both mortals and supernatural alike would learn to respect it.
her members would be cold, strong, unrelenting; all sharing the same values as their leader.
being an accepting community means nothing if your community is weak. strength prevails.
she wanted the strongest of the strong, the coldest of the cold. she wanted a coven that would
survive.

there was a low growl from somewhere in front of her, and through the fog, she could make
out a pair of slitted red eyes. vampire. the monster was so enraptured by the hunt, she hadn't
noticed the scent of the witch watching her. she hadn't eaten in days, and there was a faerie
mere yards over who was crouched over a bush of berries, unaware of the predator stalking
her. corvus assumed that the faerie had trespassed first, so she watched expectantly as the
vampire creeped closer.

leaves rustled above her, and she was certain she heard the word 'shaman' carried on the
breeze. she huffed. months of rituals, prayer, and sacrifices for this? a faerie who couldn't
watch her own back? typical.

the vampire lunged with an open mouth, and in a flash the faerie grabbed her by the jaw and
popped a handful of seeds into her mouth. "those are poisonous. you either get one last meal
before you die a gruesome death, or you leave me alone and find something else to feed on."
she hissed, nails digging deep into the skin of the vampire's cheeks.

the vampire looked all but defeated, and gnashed her teeth in response. she had a fury in her
eyes that corvus respected. she was willing to die fighting. the faerie clamped the girl's mouth
shut with both hands, and that's when the witch chose to step in.

"both of you; play nice." her chilling voice cut through the fog-covered atmosphere, and
with a flick of her head and an unspoken spell, the two were thrown away from each other.
the vampire spit the seeds from her mouth, and sent a murderous glare to corvus. before she
could speak, the witch continued, "you've trespassed on the borders of my coven. that's not
something that will go unpunished," she warned, looking at both of them with stony eyes,
"either join me or die. i'll grant you food and protection if you stay, and if you turn your back to
me, i'll kill you before the thought of running can even cross your mind."

the faerie and the vampire looked at each other, a look that depicted both an agreement and a
truce. they had nowhere to go, and each of them knew it. they'd been wandering for days. they
nodded. corvus smiled.

"you have a knowledge of herbs? you'll be our shaman." corvus nodded towards the faerie, and
then looked to the vampire, "you'll be my second-in-command. i expect to see that fiery spirit in
every fight." she waited a moment for any protest. none came. "follow me to your new home."
