        "marry me?"

        "what?"

        "you heard me."

the dark haired male gave the blonde a strange look, his eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

the small, frail blonde looked up at the male. what did he expect from her? it's not like this was an unusual thing that happened. she had said plenty of odd things in the past, this just added onto it. dekka shrugged her shoulders gently in response to the males choice of response, and she looked down at her phone once again as she scrolled through the unnecessary pictures in her instagram feed.

"why am i going to marry you, again?" nolan asked her, "i don't recall ever kissing you or anything. and i'm pretty sure you should at least take me out to dinner before jumping up like that, and asking such a big question."

a smirked played on the male's lips. a rare sight to see from the depressed male. not that it was bad, it was actually great that he was smiling for once.

dekka cleared her throat, and turned her phone off, flicking the male's forehead gently. "no, dummy. i didn't mean it seriously. i mean, i did mean it... i meant that more than i should have to be honest with you. but no, i did not expect you to actually take that offer seriously."

the female returned her gaze to her phone, her green eyes scanning over the text message she had just received from the other person they lived with. honestly, kj could have simply walked into the kitchen himself, and gathered whatever it was he was after, and then went back to enjoy his movie. he didn't have to ask her to get his things for her. instead of answering with a "sure" she simply replied with a 'suck it up buttercup, you can get it yourself.'

dekka ran a hand through her hair, brushing the blonde hair out of her face as she watched the television screen. taking her phone, she set it on the small table next to the couch and adjusted herself, leaning up against the large, muscular male and allowing her legs to hang off of the edge of the couch.

"but seriously, you should marry me, i'd make one heck of a wife and you probably wouldn't be disappointed." she told him, taking her eyes off of the tv screen to look at the male. "honestly, i think we'd make a rather swell team, you and i."

nolan wrapped his arm around the girl's neck playfully, "child, you wouldn't know the first thing. you know that for a fact it wouldn't be wise, especially in this condition. settling down as hunters is a risk all on it's own," the male looked down at her, "we aren't even dating so heck to the no am i marrying someone i'm only friends with."

the blonde placed her hands on the male's forearm, and pushed up, but couldn't get out of his grip. she huffed in defeat, and looked up at the male through her eyelashes. "but, hunting together is efficient, and i mean, we've been out plenty of times, and i mean come on, lets be honest, we would make a pretty good freaking couple."

taking his arm off the female, nolan adjusted himself so that he was laying along the back of the couch, leaving dekka to lay along side him with her legs hanging of the edge. "nope, way too risky, my dear friend. maybe if we weren't wanted by so many vampires, or werewolves, or demons, or angels, or you know, that stuff, we could pull it off. but now, we have better stuff to worry about. like keeping people alive." the male rustled her blonde hair, smirking.

dekka groaned when the male ruffled her hair, and she looked at him, shoving herself up the couch so she was no longer hanging off of the couch. "but, we could always push that stuff aside. i mean, it's not like there aren't other hunters." she beamed at the thought, but then frowned at it. "nah, you're right. hunting things is more important. you know, kj and corina can be the ones that end up dropping out of this business. i like killing things, as evil as that honestly sounds. but things need to be killed. so whatever."

the male chuckled softly, "you are crazy, tek-dek, you really are." he told her with a smile, wrapping his arms around the female slightly.

"oh, thank you so very much for the compliment, my dear best friend. it's very kind of you to tell me such a great thing," the blonde girl teased with a soft laugh, shifting slightly before she finally became comfortable against the male.

"no problem." he smiled softly, closing his eyes and huffing.

jaylen stared at the pile of clothing in the center of the room. with the small pile simply just there, and seemed to be growing every day. green shirts, red shirts, blue shirts, patterned shirts, they were all just there. piling higher and higher on her bedroom floor. she had no where to put them, her closet was empty, but she refused to open it. her drawers, they were empty, and yet, she still refused to put them away. why was that? oh, she was just convinced that there was something living beneath that pile of clothes, something sinister, something capable of murder. not that it was true, but with the recent happenings, there was nothing convincing her otherwise. her shirts built up in the center of her room, and eventually, she knew she would have to begin piling up her other clothes as well, sacrificing her hoodies and jeans for the center of the pile. to keep that thing beneath the clothes, she would be willing to sacrifice her shoes if she had to. one would simply call her crazy, but in her opinion, she was simply sane. she was protecting herself. protecting others living in this house. keeping people safe.

the two young teens looked at the pile of clothing in the middle of the bedroom, jaylen's eyes full of horror and daelyn's eyes full of confusion. he had been warned about entering her bedroom, she had told him to stay out many times before. and yet he still went inside. and he still saw the pile of clothing. and he was nothing but confused. he didn't know what she was up to- he didn't know about what was beneath that pile of clothing. didn't know what could have been living in her closet. that's why he was so confused. that's why she didn't want him in her room. he wouldn't understand. he wouldn't understand what it was she was so scared of. no one would understand what it was about. they would simply call her crazy.

"jay, what the heck is this?" he asked her, looking between her and the pile, but eventually allowed his eyes to rest on her. "you're living in a mess, this-" he waved his hands around the pile of shirts, "-is a mess."

jaylen ran a hand through her black hair nervously, refusing to make eye contact with the male. "no, it's not what you think it is, you wouldn't understand," she muttered frantically, folding her hands together, then unfolding them. "no one would understand. you would all think i'm crazy."

she moved forward, grabbing the male's arm and lead him out of the room. her head was low, but she didn't intend on releasing his arm as she moved him from the room. daelyn moved a mere few inches, but then stopped. as much as jaylen tried to pull at his arm, and get him to move, he wouldn't budge. he stood there, stiff, nearly as if he were stone. the black haired female lifted her eyes and looked at him, pleadingly. even if she looked at him, and begged, he stayed put.

the male pulled his arm away from her slowly, and jaylen allowed him. "jay, this is a mess, you need to cl-"

"no!" she interrupted, rolling in her bottom lip before shaking her head. "no, it's fine. it's really fine."

daelyn's eyebrow lifted, and jaylen looked at him. she didn't want to tell him what this was about, figuring that he'll just call her out on how crazy it sounded. but would he really? i mean, this was daelyn we're talking about- but... would he believe her?

jaylen looked back at the pile of shirts that were in the middle of her floor, and she began to question herself, even. but then she shook her head, and went on with believing what she felt was true. there was something living there, under her clothes. something murderous. and something equally murderous lived in her closet. no one could convince her otherwise. no one would convince her otherwise, because no one would ever find out about it. ever.

"what's going on, jaylen?" the male asked her, "seriously, the way you're living right now... it worries me."

the sincerity of the male's words rang in her ears, and she wanted to tell him what she was convinced about. but she couldn't bring herself to it, over the course of two months she didn't even want to tell her brothers about what was going on. green eyes were locked with the blue eyes of the male as she contemplated telling him what she was so scared of, what she was so terrified of that it lead her to piling her clothes in the middle of her room. would it even be a good idea to tell him what was going on? the female averted her eyes away from him, now staring down at the ground. as much as she wanted to tell him what this was about, she couldn't get herself to. didn't know if she even wanted to get herself to.

finally, she looked up at him once again, "nothing, it's nothing."

the concern glint in his eyes returned, and she refrained from making eye contact once again. she kept her eyes on the ground, or on the ceiling, without looking up at the native male.

after a moment, daelyn used his index finger to lift her chin, and force her to look at him. and once she did, she couldn't look away. she looked into his concerned blue eyes, biting her tongue gently. he looked genuinely worried, and during the time they just stared at each other, he hadn't lost that concerned glint in his eyes.

"please, tell me what's going on." he whispered down to her, blinking slowly.

jaylen turned her head away and looked at the pile, then grabbed the male's hand and walked out of the room, closing the door behind them. she then looked up at him, and released a loud sigh. "i... there's something in my closet, not an animal, not a person, a thing. and there's a thing living under those shirts. daelyn, there's things living in my room, murderous things. i stopped putting things in my closest because i'm positive there's something in there, again not an animal, not a human, a thing. and i don't put my shirts in drawers. hence the large pile in the middle of my bedroom. but... there's something beneath them all. there's a thing living under them. if i move the clothes, i could die. i'm not moving the shirts. i can't move the shirts."

the native male looked down at her, but he didn't question her, he didn't say anything. daelyn carefully pulled her into a hug, and held her, without saying a word. the girl wrapped her arms around him and closed her eyes, her eyebrows furrowed slightly. the male's hand was gently rubbing her back, and the male shifted slightly. "it's alright, jaylen. i promise."

        - - -

the following morning, the female was still awake, watching daelyn put her shirts away neatly int he closest. seeing as she wouldn't do it herself, the native male took it upon himself to put her shirts away for her. jaylen watched fearfully, staring at each of the shirts as he put them away neatly in the closet. the pile continued to shrink, and the girl continued to move further away from the pile of clothes. the smaller it got, the more worried she got. her heart hammered as she watched him, shirt after shirt, hanger clicking against the metal pole over and over again. her eyes were heavy with fear, and she kept herself curled in a ball, constantly inching away from the pile until she hit the wall.

the pile went down, and was eventually left as a single shirt on the floor. daelyn looked down at the shirt, then up at her. he held out the hanger, and jaylen looked at it, shaking her head. she wasn't going to put her shirt away. something could reach out of her closet and pull her into eternal darkness. something could pop up from beneath the shirt and drag her to a place of her worst nightmares. she couldn't, wouldn't, but that shirt away in the closet. there was no way she was about to do that.

"jay, it's just one shirt. i promise, nothing will happen to you." daelyn carefully lifted the hanger further towards her.

she looked at the clothes hanger, the white plastic hanger that he was holding in front of her. she looked at the shirt, then at the closet. what could go wrong? oh, that's right, everything could go wrong! she looked at the hanger once again, and slowly took it away from the male. oh, daelyn was going to die for making her do this. the female slowly stood up, using her friend as a support beam as she moved herself towards the dark green crop-top in the center of the room. exchanging glances between the white hanger, and the shirt, she finally leaned down and picked up the green shirt, swallowing nervously as she put the shirt on the hanger. slowly, she made her way towards her closet, shaking her head slightly to keep herself from dropping the shirt and running out of the room. she swallowed once again, and moved closer to her closet. lifting the shirt, she carefully placed it on the metal pole running from one end of the closet to the other, and released the hanger, jumping back as it moved slightly before it stopped.

daelyn placed a hand on her shoulder, startling her. she jumped back, and stared at the male that was standing in front of her fearfully. she swallowed nervously and looked at him, shaking her head gently before she quickly moved out of her room, and ran for the living room as soon as she was out of the bedroom. she couldn't stand being in that room. there was something living in that room, two things living in that bedroom. she wasn't going to step foot in that bedroom again, not for a long time.

the black haired girl sat on the couch with her knees drawn to her chest. she shook her head slightly as daelyn sat down beside her, and buried her face in within her small ball she created with her body. she could feel his hand gently resting on her back, but she still didn't move. she wouldn't move. not then, not there. she released a shaky breath as she shifted slightly, and her eyes remained sealed shut.

"hey, it's alright, jay. there's nothing in there. i promise you that." the male gently rubbed her back, "it's alright."

jaylen didn't answer, she remained curled in her tiny ball. she shivered slightly, and shook her head faintly. there was no way that it was alright, there was something in her room. whether he wanted to believe her or not. she kept herself curled in the small ball for a few moments before she uncurled herself. she allowed her feet to dangle off the couch, and she looked at the male, her eyes still full of fear. without saying anything, she turned her head away from him and shifted towards him, gently resting her head on his shoulder and closed her eyes, releasing a sigh.

        who's laughing now?
        prompt 7 word count 3647
        notes MY BABE MIGHT LIVE

        └────────┘
        x
it had been years since the war had broken out, and since they had won by a mere few people. it had been years since the land that very few people now stood on, years since everyone else traveled as a means of keeping themselves safe. it had been years since the place they once called home had became nothing but rubbish, dirt, and dust. years and years had past, and yet they still lived within it, the destroyed buildings, the cars that wouldn't run- they took them as their own. those who couldn't get out themselves, found a way to make it work. they found a way to make this destruction work. it may not have been easy, especially for many, but they still made it work. but many had not yet found out how it was going to work out.

many had died since then because of that- not only those who had died trying to protect what now looks like the home of a tornado. they had died of starvation, of fighting over what they thought was theirs to fight over. now, very few people live in this land of destruction. many people that now live here, are young, the ones who didn't bother getting into fights unless they were only looking for trouble. few people have stayed, and fewer had began to walk away from it- and head away from all of the troubles.

ohio is now nothing but destroyed.

karolina knows that too well, she will always know this place as the way it is. after the war with indiana, her father had thought her and her mother to be dead and took her siblings and ran off, taking the won state as a new place to inhabit. waking up and finding that there was no one she knew but herself and her mother, really scarred her. she had lived with her mother, fending for the two of them while her mother tried her best to keep them both alive. the bond between the two of them had become strong, so strong that it was nearly impossible for karolina to let anyone near they're small makeshift home. the bond didn't last long- people always thought that it was okay to fight them for they're place, they're little home- the home that they had created. while karolina had gone out to look for one thing, and had returned to find her mother laying on the pile of burnt wood outside of they're shelter. after that, there wasn't much hope left for the small, blonde haired teenage girl.

now, she's seventeen and all alone, no support, little protection.

kicking a small pebble along the only slightly cleared path, she lifted her head and looked at the setting sun ahead of her. west. she had been heading that way for the past few days. she then lowered her head once again, staring at the charred concrete that was beneath her feet. her hand remained locked around the locket that was once her mothers, the chain swaying gently and brushing against her bare arms. she released a low sigh, and kicked a pebble into one of the larger rocks, probably previously a brick of some sort. the pebble bounced back to her, and she kicked it forward again, only this time, it bounced (then slightly rolled) off the path in which she was walking. karolina sighed softly and looked down at the ground, looking at her feet as the exchanged different places.

lifting the hand that held the locket, she pried her fingers open. the golden, slightly dirty, heart lock flipped open, revealing a picture of a blonde woman smiling happily. the small picture was of her mother- who was smiling while the snow fell around her. her pink lips were curled up into that warm smile, and her blonde hair was curled, while the top of her head was covered with the black and blue beanie that her grandmother had knitted for her. her blue eyes were full of life, happiness, and probably more joy than she had ever seen since the war. she was looking up at something in the direction of the other locket, and on the other end of the locket, was her uncle. her mother's twin. he, too, was smiling widely, showing his white teeth. his dark green eyes were dancing with pride, and his black hair was disheveled, probably from what her mother had done. his scarf was dotted with the white snow that was falling around the two of them, and karolina could practically hear the laughter that was coming from the two of them the day those two pictures were taken. she could remember that her uncle had gifted her the locket that christmas, and her mother had given him a picture frame of the same picture (pictures) in which were cut, and placed inside the locket.

the picture, the happiness that the two of them shared, made the blonde smile. she couldn't help it. but a few moments after smiling, she had tears streaming down her cheeks as she remembered what had happened a year right after that. the year her uncle had died while fighting against indiana. the year her mother had cried her eyes out next to her brother's dead, bloodied body. karolina closed her eyes, and closed the locket as well. she couldn't look at it any longer. had she done so, she wouldn't be able to move forward any longer. she lowered the locket to her side, and released a sigh as she calmed herself down. she sniffed slightly, and shoved the locket into her pocket so she wouldn't have the urge to open it once again, to be reminded of the disasters that had happened the year of 2022.

the female cleared her throat and brushed away the tears on her cheeks, shaking her head gently as she sighed. she wouldn't cry anymore. not during this walk. one more time, and she would lay down and let herself be eaten by crows. yeah, that sounds great, doesn't it? no. not really. it sounds disgusting, and one terrible way to die. karolina shook her head, and pushed herself to climb over a small pile of rubble, before jumping to the ground on the other side of it, releasing a huff as her feet hit the ground. the blonde female brushed her dirty, knotted blonde hair back behind her, and grabbed the breaking hair tie off her wrist, and leaned her head back slightly so she could pull her hair into a ponytail. once she had done that, she looked ahead of her, biting her tongue gently. her green eyes were locked on the one place in front of her- where the sun was setting, and in front of it, a small building-like structure.

her stomach growled, and she released a loud huff in irritation, hoping she could simply ignore it. with no food anywhere around her, she was going to have to wait- even if she didn't know if she could last any longer. she continued to walk forward, ignoring the quick pains in her stomach as hunger nipped at her. pressing her lips together, the blonde pushed herself up over another pile of rubble, and landed on the opposite side of it with a soft "thump". she closed her eyes as her stomach growled once again, and only ignored it as best she could. karolina blinked a few times as she neared the structure, and released a sigh as she saw that it was only small, and didn't appear to have been burnt down entirely.

the female came closer to the building, and once the sun disappeared behind it, she began to move quicker- picking up the pace to a jog. she licked her lips as she ran for the shelter, keeping her eyes locked on it. she took in a deep breath as she came up to the entrance (or what she assumed was the entrance) and slowed down till she was standing in the doorway. the door no longer existed, nor did any windows. there were no signs of windows, nor any signs of a door ever existing in the place she was standing. it appeared as if this was made as a shelter after the war had happened, by one of the few people who still thought of ohio as their own home, and weren't going to leave their home, even if it meant risking death. karolina was one of those people. she didn't want to leave the place she called home, even if she could die.

with reluctance, the female entered the small building. even though the building looked extremely small from the outside, it was decently sized inside. the walls were charred brick, and there had to be plenty of space to house a few people if they were in need of shelter. karolina looked around the small building, noting that the only place there was inside of this structure, was the place she was standing in. she nodded her head softly, and took a plodding step forward. she glanced around once again, and her eyes landed on a folded cot that was in the corner of the room, topped with an ashy, and probably very uncomfortable, pillow and an ash covered comforter. she couldn't imagine what it had to be like sleeping on that thing every night as a means of not becoming sleep deprived. it appeared to be rather uncomfortable, if not, really hard to even become comfortable on.

"i guess this will have to do for the night," she muttered feebly, "if i can survive."

as soon as she stepped forward again, an arm was placed on her shoulder, and she was swung against the brick wall. with her back against it, and being forcefully pushed further into it, she pried her eyes open to see the angry face of a male, one who couldn't be any older than she was. she had a muscular forearm pressed to her collarbones, holding her against the wall. the male's other hand was holding one of her hands, the one he determined to be the one he was nervous about. his foot was on top of her two feet, preventing her from lifting them off the ground. she was stuck, with brick digging into her back.

karolina wiggled her one free limb, other than her head (if you would consider that free at this point), and thought for a moment. if she could lift it high enough, she could punch the male, so why not even try? she had fought in the past- she could take this guy on with maximum struggle.

taking her free arm, she lifted it and swung. her knuckle hit the male square in the jaw, and he lifted the hand holding her collarbones and grabbed her other wrist, as if thinking she would swing at him again. while he had grabbed her wrist, his foot was taken off hers- and she brought her leg up and kneed him in the abdomen. once her knee had contacted him, he dropped her wrists and clutched where he had been kneed. it wasn't long before he took a swing at her- hitting her on the shoulder, quite hard. wincing, she brought her arm up and grabbed the male's shoulders, doing the same with her other hands, before she shoved him backwards. he tried to regain his balance, but slammed directly onto the ground soon afterwards. karolina approached him, but he spread his legs slightly and captured her left foot, twisting his own legs, which caused her to fall to the ground with a loud "oof". with her leg captured, she lifted herself slightly and used her other leg to kick at the male's face, which didn't have much of a positive impact. she soon spun herself around and moved towards the male. she managed to get one of the male's legs locked between hers, and when he tried to stand, he ended up falling in the same manner that she had. freeing her one leg caught beneath his, she lunged towards the male, elbowing him in the gut before she straddled the male, grabbing his wrists and holding them down against the ground, looking at the male's face as it twisted in anger.

        "ha," she spat nonchalantly.

however, the male had a different idea. he lifted one of his legs up and hooked one of her arms, and pulled her to the ground. he rolled up and grabbed her wrists, preventing her from swinging again. his legs were now pinning her legs to the ground, preventing her from kicking at him. he was now looming over her, casting a heavy shadow (not that there was much light inside of the small building) over her face.

"who's laughing now?" he spat in the same nonchalant tone she had, his eyebrows furrowed angrily.

karolina wanted to wipe the saliva that had come from the male's mouth and landed on her face, but she couldn't get his arms off of her. she stared into his cold eyes, her own eyes holding the cold and angry gaze. they sat there in silence, just staring angrily at each other. who was this guy, thinking he had the right to slap her into the wall in the manner that he had? she was sure he thought the same about her; 'who does this girl think she is wondering into my shelter?' yeah, that's what she thought he was thinking at this point.

        "let me go, you-"

"don't you dare finish that sentence," now he was closer, and his breath tickled her skin as he breathed against her, probably completely without realizing what he was doing. not that she thought he actually cared.

"just let me go!" karolina spat, lifting her head off the ground so that she was a mere centimeter away from his face.

he lifted his head slightly, "not until you tell me who you are and what you're doing here. unless you tell me that, you're not getting off this ground."

the blonde girl narrowed her eyes angrily, "you're not going to find out who i am. ever." she whispered angrily, lifting her head a little more, "and i'm guessing you already know what the hell i'm doing here, so let me go, damn it!" she spat at him, releasing a heavy huff.

after a few moments, the male had finally lifted himself off of her, now standing on his feet. however, he turned away from her, rather than helped her up. not that she expected him to do anything to help her. she gathered that this place belonged to the unknown male, and he obviously wasn't too keen on visitors. once she was sure he wasn't going to pull anything, she lifted herself into a sitting position, and glared at the male. without any words, karolina pushed herself to her feet, and while she was doing so, her stomach growled in hunger.

"damn you, brain cells! can't you just think you're hungry for once and let me live without my stomach growling every two minutes?"

with a loud huff, she spun on her heels and began walking away from the male. there was no way he was going to allow her to stay here for a single night, let alone to search for a single meal. like she'd find anything, while the male was strong, it was a for sure thing that he was probably just as hungry as she was. there was no point in hanging around, anyway. there was no place for her to stay inside of this place, and she sure as hell wasn't going to offer sharing the damn cot she had noticed in the far corner. she couldn't even imagine sharing a small sleeping space with the male she just gotten out of a fight with, and if she had tried, it was sure to end with her being a bloodied mess outside of the nonexistent door.

a few steps outside of the door, something hit her in the back. something hard. she spun around, and her eyes were now locked on the male who was facing her. when he motioned his head towards the ground, she looked down, and noticed a small, very small, unpeeled and slightly ashy orange. she lifted her head and looked back at the male, tilting her head and arching an eyebrow. had he actually heard her stomach growl? shaking her head, karolina lowered herself so that she was sitting on her heels, and picked up the orange, which she then identified as one of the small cuties. she lifted her head and looked at the male, who was now turned around and laying out the cot, which was a lot larger than she had expected it to be. with a shake of her head, she turned around and started to pick at the skin of the orange, soon peeling at least half of it off the orange itself. once she had a slice in her hand, she began to walk forward.

"you'll die out there, you know," the masculine voice echoed outside of the door, and she spun around to meet the dark eyes of the male, "and i wont allow someone to die because i kicked them out of the one shelter that isn't destroyed."

        what a plot twist.

karolina cleared her throat, "are you being serious right now?" she asked, her eyebrows furrowed in confusion, "i mean, you did kind of slam me into a wall then punched my shoulder. which is now probably bruised, by the way," she folded her arms over her chest, keeping a hold on the orange. she glanced down at it, seeing only one of thee slices gone, before she looked up at the male once again, her eyes cold. "and how do i not know that you're going to kill me? or take the little things that i actually have?"

the male sighed, obviously defeated by her words. "look, i'm sorry that i did that, it was an immediate instinct. you never know who you can run into out here, you know?" his voice calm out calmly, but it was still laced with a twinge of fear. "i thought that you were just here on some sort of mission to get rid of me, and take everything that i have in order to keep yourself alive. which i would understand, but, i simply though that you were there to kill me." he lifted one of his hands and rubbed the back of his neck nervously, obviously not sure about what to think at that time. his dark eyes hadn't met hers after they left them, and they were now locked on the ground, "i just can't let someone die of hunger, or in this weather, get too cold," his voice sounded genuine, but she wasn't sure what to believe, or if she could even believe it. "just... please, don't be stupid, and just stay here so you don't end up dead?"

she released the same sigh of defeat that he had previously released. "alright, fine, whatever. only because you make wondering around out here so 'scary'," she air quoted once she had said 'scary', then dropped her hands. "but names will not be exchanged. not once, not half, none at all. understood?" the male nodded in agreement, and she took another step forward. "two, you cannot lay a hand on me or my things- and i mean this. if you touch anything that belongs to me i will hit you in the had with a brick till i'm sure you're not breathing," she was now inside of the small building, standing in front of the male, "do you understand and agree to these terms?"

        "yes ma'am."

"and don't call me ma'am, that's just... don't ever call me ma'am again."

"yes- i mean... okay," he said feebly before he looked down at the cot, "sleep, if you're going where i think you're going, you're going to need to rest. you wouldn't be able to get very far if you don't rest enough," he lifted his eyes once more, looking down at her.

karolina blinked at him, "and what about you? i don't know you, and i don't care to know you, but you're going to want to sleep too. i can see how tired you are."

he shook his head, "i wont be going anywhere anytime soon," he told her faintly, "besides, i have some things i need to do before i can get to sleep. just... sleep. please, girly- sleep."

the female scoffed, but then gave into him. she made her way towards the cot that was now laid out on the ground, the ashy pillow laid out on the ground, and the blanket covering the cot slightly. with a sigh, she lowered herself onto the ground, and continued to peel her orange. well, the orange she had thrown at her. karolina finished peeling the orange, and set the peel down, which the male picked up, then chucked outside the door carelessly. shrugging her shoulders, she finished the orange, and looked at the blanket. shifting slightly, she pulled the locket out of her pocket and pulled it over her head, lifting the hair bunched into the pony tail so the chain was against her neck. lowering herself down, she lifted the blanket, and drew it over herself, looking at the male before shaking her head.

        "karolina," she muttered weakly.

        "what?"

"karolina," she repeated, louder this time, "my name is karolina. never call me girly again."

she blocked out the male's words, they were inaudible anyhow, and rolled over onto her other side so that she was facing the wall. she released a low sigh, and closed her eyes, only hoping that she would wake up the next morning.

karolina carefully flipped over on her side, but once she had finally got comfortable, she couldn't fall asleep. it had been this way multiple times during the night. either the cot had been wrinkled in a small area beneath her, or she was laying uncomfortably on her shoulder. it was this way more than once, and that made it rather hard for her to remain comfortable. once she had gotten comfortable, at least an hour later she had been awoken by the cot beneath her once again. there wasn't one time she had presumed that she had slept for more than a single hour. god, the poor girl had been through enough as of what happened a few years ago- why did sleeping have to be added to that list of things that hadn't gone right?

her eyes fluttered open and she met the closed eyes of the male that had allowed her to stay in his shelter the night before. shaking her head, she went to turn herself over, in hopes of getting back to sleep before he woke up. nope, that didn't work. his eyes shot open and met hers, where they stayed for a few moments before he averted them. the male lifted his left hand, and when he went to lift his right, karolina felt a nudge on the side of her head. oh.

"ah, well, this is awkward," she sat up, and turned her head away from the male before she pulled her blonde hair out of the messy ponytail she had up. "and, you could have at least bought me dinner first," her voice was heavily quipped with nothing but a teasing tone, and a half smirk had remained on her face.

the male sat up next to her, then stood up. "i... apologize," he scratched the back of his neck nervously as he reached down and grabbed his shirt, and pulled it over his head, "really."

karolina gave him a smirk as she stood up, and brushed her hands on her sweats. "nah, it's gucci."

the male gave her a shocked look, but she shrugged it off. karolina stood up and looked at the male, patting his shoulder a few times. "it was nice meeting you, not so nice the first few minutes, but you know, close enough to a nice greeting at this point," she rubbed her shoulder in the place where she had been punched by him the night before, wincing once she pressed on the spot a little too hard.

        "oh, yeah, sorry about that."

"you're really apologetic, aren't you?" she asked him with a smirk, arching an eyebrow before she gently shoved his shoulder.

        "uh... yeah."

karolina shrugged her shoulders at his short reply, and flattened down her shirt. with a low chuckle, she walked towards the door. "yeah, whatever. well, i gotta head out, not going to get to pennsylvania if i stay here."

he stopped her by grabbing her shoulder, the one he had not punched, and turned her around, "you walked west in order to get here, you need to head in the other way," he told her, releasing her shoulders and nodding, "i just hoped you haven't been walking west for that long."

the blonde stared at him. no, that couldn't have been right. that wasn't possible, nor was it the truth. or it could be, and she could have simply been going the wrong way... oh, wow, she didn't know the difference between north and south. that was... that was amazing. she cleared her throat and released a soft sigh, running her hand through her knotted hair, "well, that's amazing." she muttered at herself angrily, turning around and releasing a growl at herself. karolina couldn't believe it, how she had been going the wrong direction the entire time.

the male nodded his head, "i don't think you want to go to indiana after what they had done to ohio."

"yeah, no, i really freaking don't," karolina released a huff in anger, looking at the male with a grunt, "i can't freaking believe it."

the male nodded his head at her, and then stood up a little straighter, "i... i can go with you so you head in the right direction?"

"please," she muttered softly, scratching the side of her neck with another huff.

without another word, the two of them headed out, leaving the cot behind with the pillow, inside of the shelter. they were walking side by side, their arms occasionally brushing against one another. there wasn't much chatting between the two of them, and most of the time the conversations were extremely short, and simply lasted a few moments before it became awkwardly silent again. though, the awkward silence had always been accompanied by some sort of noise that they had created while they walked.

finally, the male had broke the silence, "jonathon, my name is jonathon."

bradyn williams had not only failed at killing what she was after, but she got stuck with one of the more stupid hunters there could be. kurt fohlen. there was a reason bradyn didn't tag along with other hunters. and what she had managed to get stuck with, along side alexander bales, because kurt couldn't kill the vampire he was after. god, being a hunter really did turn into a simple blast by just tagging along with her father's friend's child. ooh, each moment she spent with the two made her life a living hell. why couldn't they just kill the damned things they came here for and get the hell out of there? it would be less aggravating, and would probably keep the other two dumbasses safe and out of bradyn's grasp on their throats.

the two boys (well, men considering their age i suppose) were sitting on the two separate beds, staring at the television screen. at what? ah, well, that was one question bradyen wasn't wanting to find out. if she asked, she was sure they would give her an entire summary. and she didn't want that. but, from what these people on the tv were saying, and the way they sounded to be completely blunt, the two of them were watching something that had to do with the older west. and her theory was proven when she heard a loud boom! come from the tv, followed by a "think you used enough dynamite there, butch?" guys and their movies.

a sigh escaped the brunette's lips as she scrolled through the possibilities of catching the vampire as quickly as possible, by her. self. if they weren't at all going to help, then she was going to figure it out herself. she would decapitate the creature, that was a given (no hunter was stupid enough not to decapitate a vampire, it was something everyone knew had to be done). but how she would manage to do it herself was the challenging part. alexander and kurt were always caught up in their stupid movies, or were too busy being babies, and cowering in the corner. she couldn't believe that she got stuck with such hunters! they didn't even have the guts to go into a haunted building.

"... that's it," bradyn stood up, closing her computer and looking at the two males, wide eyed. "that's it! i figured out how to kill this thing, with your guys' help. up. off the bed, both of you are going," she moved in front of the tv screen, hoping to at least get them to get up. not that it worked entirely. alexander had gotten up, but kurt remained on the bed, "kurt! get off the bed, now!"

that got him, and he scrambled to his feet in a hurry as he grabbed his things and walked outside of the door. the brunette smiled softly, and shut the tv off, looking at alexander. the male had started gathering the few bags they had, knowing they probably wouldn't come back to the hotel room, and headed out. oh, they weren't all that stupid. well, alexander wasn't. he actually had half of a brain. and he used that half of his brain rather well. that's what she liked about him. mostly. other than that, he was rather stupid.

bradyn closed the hotel door behind alexander once he had exited, and nodded her head softly when she found kurt inside her car, in the backseat. good boy. he knew where he belonged. the female was excited to finally get this hunt over with so the three of them could part ways. only if this went the way that she wanted it to. kurt was sprawled out on the backseat by the time she and alex had reached it, and that caused the girl to huff. if he got hurt it was his own fault.

pulling the driver's door open, she chucked her bag (really just consisting of her laptop, books, and more books. shouldn't have hurt him that much) into the backseat, which was soon followed by a loud groan in pain. oh, had she hit him? she didn't mean to do that.

"sorry," she told him, a smirk growing on her lips, "not sorry."

alexander had turned over, concerned for his newfound friend, only to start laughing at the way kurt was now laying. curled up. the blonde haired male sitting in the passenger seat turned himself around once again, drawing the seat belt over his chest. while he had done that, bradyn hadn't done that- she left the belt right where it was. no point in doing it if in less than five minutes she would have to take it off again.

the key was turned, and the engine rumbled to life. she put the car in gear, and pulled out of the parking space, before she had pulled out of the lot. five miles over the speed limit, with a worried, and in pain, kurt in the backseat, she had been kept from going ten above the twenty they were limited with. alexander had also told her not to go so far above it. she was sure he was just as worried as kurt was, but he had denied that- and told her it was because he didn't want them getting pulled over and fined. that was something she had to agree with, though. she didn't want to have to give the vampire longer to kill another person. god, did she wish that she wasn't stuck with these two anymore.

finally, after what felt like thirty minutes (though it was honestly about eight minutes), she pulled into the driveway of an older looking house. she had been here plenty of times, and the only things that were living there were vampires. there was no use in just trying to kill them all- she had realized that from her previous vampire hunt. it wouldn't go well. there was really only one thing that they could do- which was kill the vampire that infected all of these people that were now those fanged, bat wannabes. lets be honest, that's all that they were at this point.

the car's ignition shut off as she turned the key, and kurt was quick to be the first one out of the vehicle despite the look of pain that still remained on his face. bradyn was next to exit the car, and head towards the trunk. alexander soon followed her, leaving kurt to lean against the vehicle as he tried to ignore the pain that her bag had somehow caused him. alex and bradyn quickly gathered the materials they figured they would need, which was simply a machete for each of them- and kurt's beloved handsaw. for some reason, the guy thought that a hand saw would be easier to kill with.

thing about that thing was, the blade was dulling, and the teeth were no longer as sharp as they needed to be in order to saw through the flesh and muscles of the creatures. she would be fine with him using it had it been sharper and far more dangerous, but now she just thought he wanted to create a mess or some sort of fight with these things.

alexander grabbed his own machete, which was cased in a dark blue casing in which was able to be hooked onto his belt loop on his pants, and quickly attached it to his pants. figures. bradyn then grabbed her own as well, one that was cased in a thin layer of maroon colored leather. she had sharpened it before she returned it tot he trunk of her car, and she just hoped that she wouldn't have to sharpen it much after this hunt. as a means of not wasting any time taking the cover off the blade, she pulled the leather from it and tossed it into the trunk. then, she reached up and slammed it closed.

kurt kept the handle of his hand saw clutched in his hand, "brad, i can't believe you're making me help with this. i tried the last time we did this," the male whined, leaning his head back, "alex was the one who didn't help you the last time."

the male that kurt targeted cut him an angry glare, but continued walking up towards the busted window of the house. he hadn't said a word to kurt, not one. which, she was okay with. the more of them that kept their mouth's shut, the more chance they would have of successfully killing this lead vampire. wherever it was.

alex sighed just as bradyn had, and the smaller girl stepped into the building after the two males had (oh so gracefully) gone in before her. she lifted her leg over the broken, and sharp edges of the glass, having to stand on her toes in order to not cut herself on the sharp blades. kurt was looking around, but alex had stepped in to help her get through the window. once the male was holding her up, only slightly, and she knew she had nothing to worry about when it came to cutting herself, she pulled her other leg in through the window and grabbed her machete from the ground. once she had her weapon in her hand, and alex had his hand on the handle of his, she nodded her head. he knew what he was doing. the only question was, did kurt?

just when she thought that it was safe enough to walk down the hall to their right, something came flying out of it. whatever through that thing, or person (as the shape that she had gathered) was strong. kurt had jumped and scurried behind alexander, and bradyn stared in awe. what the hell was going on here.

alexander peeled kurt off of his arm, and pushed him to the side. just like that, another form had come from down the hall. this time, it startled bradyn, and she stumbled back slightly as a result. it wasn't long before alex was beside her, leaning his arm on her shoulder. she didn't know what it was he was doing, other than use her as a post of some sort, but whatever it was, she was barely okay with. she watched kurt as he peered around the corner, and his eyebrows furrowed.

"uh, guys..? i think you should come see this," the male looked back at them, nodding his head.

bradyn ducked beneath the male's arm and moved towards kurt, leaning just past the corner. that's when she saw the large hole in the wall. obviously, whatever had been thrown was thrown hard enough to knock a hole in the wall made entirely of brick.

this left her wondering what the heck they were dealing with, and if it was even a vampire. she started sorting the possibilities. were vampire demons ever recorded? by anybody? that was bradyn's best guess. bat wannabes possessed by the black smoke people. yeah, because, y'know, nothing is more dangerous than creating demonic vampires.

if that were the case, then, well, the three of them were beyond screwed over their heads. she hadn't brought in any books as a means of exorcising anything, nor did she had any of them memorized. and none of them, and she knew it was none of them that had, brought any salt, or holy water. oh, how she wished that window were easier to climb out of. or she had thought twice about getting the holy water. or salt. either of them would have worked if possessed vampires were, in fact, what they had walked in on this time.

"i'm not sure if i made the right decision by doing that, but, maybe we should... leave," bradyn blinked as she spoke, shaking her head softly, still unsure of what had happened. "whatever is going on here, i don't think we really want to be a part of... not until we can become superhumans overnight. which, i don't think will happen. and if it isn't obvious that we are extremely, extremely weak against these people- simply seeing what they did to that guy -then let me make it obvious to you by telling you, we have no chance. we're gonna die."

"wait a minute," alex looked at her, "kid, i know this might not be an easy hunt, but we're here already. we can't just up and leave."

bradyn glared at him with a challenging look, "alexander maxwell bales i will leave you here with kurt, that or i can cut off your hand. which one is it gonna be, hot stuff?" her voice was full of venom, "i would much rather not have anyone die today other than that poor guy over there who had decided that it was wise to go up against these things. if you want to die, then go ahead and find some way to kill these things without getting hurt. but i don't think you're going to do that, and i don't want to come back and fine that they were the ones who decapitated you instead of the other way around!"

alexander blinked down at her before he placed his hands on her shoulders, and then pulled her into him, his lips crashing against hers. while it was unexpected, she returned it, her eyes fluttering closed as she kissed him. it was like everything around them stopped, or slowed down entirely. who knew kissing the male you were once wanting dead would be so... okay? moments later, bradyn pulled back, looking up at the male who still had his hands on her shoulders.

"thanks for... that. but i still think we should leave. lets go."

kurt was the first one out of the window, then alex helped bradyn through the window, then crawled through himself. bradyn couldn't believe that it was her who decided that it would be okay to turn around and head out. but she didn't want to die, and surprisingly, she didn't want the other two to die. even if kurt was a little worrywart who didn't know how to risk anything.

god, she was still stuck with two complete idiots.
