While waiting in the line of other trucks and trailers that were also waiting to leave the showgrounds, Logan turned the radio on, switching between the channels until he found one that he wanted to listen to. He hummed under his breath, listening to the song that was currently being played. Soon enough, he had finally left, and was well on his way to get back home. It was going to take around three to four hours to get home, which he definitely did not take for granted, because he knew that some people had to travel much further and for much longer - he did not envy those people.
Thinking back over the events of the day, he was really quite proud of himself - not just because of his placings (and the fact that he could move Jupiter up a class for competing), but also because he'd had a relatively good conversation with someone else that he didn't know, which was highly unusual for him.

Luckily today, their drive wasn't long. Ninety minutes later had them in the driveway and quickly unpacking. First thing Reid did was turn Fae out with Bruce, his grandfather's Clydesdale, "have a romp, sweetheart. You earned it."
Resuming his unpacking, he had everything back in the barn when his grandmother came around from out back, dusting dirt off her knees presumably from the garden. "Well?" She called as she made her way over, "how'd you do?"
Pulling the solemn card, he closed up the trailer and shrugged it off, "we got third place."
Both of them broke into smiles and hugged excitedly. Guiding him in, gran could practically hold it together, "your grandfather is going to be so proud! Get cleaned up and you can tell us all about it over dinner!"

Once he got home, Logan noticed that his mother's car wasn't anywhere to be seen. Figuring that she was probably still at work, or had gone out to get some food for the week, he wasn't too worried. He parked, and then he stepped out of the truck, and he set about unloading Jetstar and Jupiter, letting them into the paddock so that they could have a stretch and a run around, while he unpacked all of their tack and such that he had taken with him.
He was working on the evening feeds for the horses when he heard his mother call out for him, and she stepped into the feed room.
"Ah, there you are. How was it, Logan?"
Logan glanced up, and smiled slightly, pleased to see her.
"It went well, I think... I mean, Jupiter placed fourth, and Jetstar got second, so..." he was unable to hide his pride for his horses, and his mother looked incredibly excited.
"That's fantastic! I'm so pleased! I'll let you get on, but once you get inside the house, you'll have to tell me everything." She left, leaving Logan alone, and he turned back to finishing up the feeds.

Soon they were all inside and enjoying a nice dinner. Reid made a play-by-play account of their day and filled in every detail, except Logan. He had them both enraptured and giving their congratulations by the end. Usually he tried to be modest but this day was an exception for everyone.
"Well I'm mighty proud of you. Wish I could compete like that," gramps smiled before getting solemn, "but your mother called today. She wanted to know how your college applications are going."
"But I wanted to stay here and help you with the hay business. Business is good!" He exclaimed, wishing his mother would lay off about following in his brothers' footsteps.
"She won't hear of it, Reid. At least appease her for now," he offered sympathetically.
"Alright," he said dejected, "I better tend to Fae and Bruce for the night." Moving from the table, he slipped out the front door.
