Second Chance Shelter is a dog and cat rescue where you can come to find a new member of your family. We rescue and rehabilitate dogs and cats of all shapes and sizes so they may have the chance to be placed into a caring home. All of our animals are special and deserve a chance to be happy with an owner that will care for them. The question is: are you ready to love them?

backstory;;
When Fletcher was a pup, his first owner was a sailor. The sailor found him cowering in an ally in a town and decided to take him home. The old sailor kept him on a boat more than on land and Fletcher grew to love the ocean. He was, at first, called 'Pup Pup' but the man and his shipmates renamed him as Fletcher after a week. He was soon nicknamed 'Fleet-Foot' since he was quite nimble and agile on his feet to keep out of trouble on the ship. Time went by and the old sailor retired from the sea and Fletcher lived peacefully with him on land until the sailor's passing. Fletcher was then sold to a family across town that had a ranch. It wasn't as great as the ocean to Fletcher but the family was loving and he found the farm animals and children as friends. That life was short-lived as the family sold all their animals and land (as well as Fletcher) to pay off a heavy debt. He was sold to a young photographer that lived miles away by a lake. A bit disoriented and sad by the constant movement of owners, Fletcher soon rekindled his love for the ocean when he lived with the photographer. He enjoyed the joyful walks to the lake shore and it felt like his first life with the sailor even though the old man was gone. After a whole year and a half of living with the photographer, the man moved to a new city but couldn't keep Fletcher. Feeling composure and sympathy for the dog, the man gave Fletcher over to the shelter.

what's with the love for the ocean?;;
Obviously, it dates back to his first owner: the sailor. At first, Fletcher was actually mortified to get on the boat and hated the rocking but with the kind words and encouragement from the sailor and his shipmates, Fletcher learned to love the water. He had to get used to it since he was going to send most of his days out on the ocean. Within weeks, Fletcher loved being on boats and in the water. To him, the ocean is a vast place of unknown discovery. You never know what you're going to find in its dark depths or foamy waves, may it be something truly amazing or truly scary. Fletcher would watch the waters like a hawk just to see if there were secrets in hidden in the waves. Another reason is the noise of the waves crashing against the boat and the soft rocking it. This was what also helped Fletcher overcome his young fear of the water and helped him sleepy peacefully. One last reason is because he loves the feeling of the cool, crisp sea. Swimming was one of the only energy-draining exercises Fletcher could do besides running about on the ship. Every time the boat anchored somewhere offshore, Fletcher would jump in the water and swim laps around the boat. It was nice to have something that could both exhaust him yet keep cool until he climbed back on board.

Fletcher is easy and laidback fellow. He prefers to be a peacemaker and gets along with nearly everybody. Fletcher is a bit hesitant with cats after having a bad experience with them back on the farm but he gets along fine with friendly ones. Sometimes, although, he'll try and make himself look tough when faced with bigger dogs than him.
