the 501st can also help with ideas how to fabricate the animatronic bits. i think the same techniques for making stormtrooper armor would look really great for that - especially with the sister location animatronics, which are a bit more shiny clean smooth plastic. :D they're also just cool guys, lol.

i know hydration is a big key thing for a lot of my 501st friends because our big local con is Dragoncon, which is held every labor day weekend in Atlanta. if you know anything of the climate of Georgia, you'll know that although it's technically September, the temps are still somewhere between "broiling", "sizzling alive", and "oh god why". when you put somebody in a suit, it becomes a real danger! hence why i'm planning my eventual darth revan cosplay to be... very, very light fabric LOL...

but hey, they might also have ideas on volunteering too. i know FNAF is a big thing with younger and younger kids these days. which... in all honesty, i don't really appreciate because i don't think this series is suitable for 8 year olds!, but what's done is done. the 501st does a lot of volunteering at local hospitals and the like. maybe some kids stuck in a local children's cancer ward might be really excited to see Foxy. :D

New Zealand so yeah slightly more temperate when it comes to temperatures. the funtime foxy is gonna go like velvet just because it's their preference, plus it'll be nicer for kids to hug. we do have a branch of the 501st here - so getting in touch with them could be good. I'll also have to have a chat to some of the cosplayers who've done armor builds as well.

I'm personally looking at using Satin for the dress and various thicknesses of EVA foam things like the arms and legs, the hands are gonna be interesting though. might have to make some oversized gloves or something. And then a wig for the hair and some kind of mask for the face plates, Just because I'm allergic to body paint. But I still have to get through two cons worth of cosplays before I think about tackling Baby.

though t's not a proper allergy, i feel you about the body paint thing. my face only calms down if sufficiently plied with Lush's finest  so makeup is right out for me. plus it's a lot more convenient really! i know there are some conventions that still ban homestuck cosplays because of people not properly sealing body paint. with armor pieces, there's less flexibility, but you don't have to worry about leaving stains on the chairs in the lobby haha!

best of luck to you! if you're comfortable with it, totally come share progress and complete shots with us :D I've never done proper cosplay myself - tfw your disability prevents you from crafting much lol, shaky hands help nobody - but i'm always curious about methods because i collect ball jointed dolls and want to adapt some of those techniques to the 1/4 scale :D plus, as FNAF fans, i'm sure we'd all be excited to see!

I do have cosplay pages on facebook, tumblr, and instagram where I'm gonna be posting progress photos of whatever I'm working on. I might do Baby for Comp if I feel she's technically challenging enough. Especially LEDs are something I want to learn how to do, even if all that I can get to glow is the eyes for Baby.

LEDs were especially tough for my Springtrap costume, I could find lights of every color except the right shade of white I was looking for

Cosplay is unfortunately a bit like that though :( But if I'm gonna be chucking them behind something like half a ping pong ball, I suppose it doesn't really matter too much.

fortunately LEDs are simple enough these days :D it looks like several companies offer a range of whites, and i believe if you want to be truly picky, there are setups where you can program a small microcontroller to actually control three LEDs and custom mix the light from RGB values. i think if you want to sink some money into it, you could even find one of these in a pre-assembled set - even Bluetooth controllable. but that's a bit OTT really. it looks like retailers such as Kingbright offer a good selection (even of all the different white tones).

but that's more my father's wheelhouse - i haven't actually done any hobbyist electronics really, whereas he has a workshop of the stuff upstairs. but not an insurmountable problem, to be sure. :)

(isn't it nice that we have LEDs as well instead of fiddling with the potential heat of incandescents in costuming, too! admittedly at some point size-wise it stops being such an issue - hence why people aren't fussed too much with the wheatgrain incandescent bulbs in their train set landscapes - but it's nice that we have such a reliable source of light that's so easy and we know doesn't get hot!)

i think she'd be a fantastic choice competition-wise - a recognizeable character that also takes a lot of finesse, as far as construction. plus we have the 'making of' stuff from the behind-the-scenes extras, and i bet those are an enormous help as far as cosplay goes! :) definitely stop by and let us see when you get around to it - i'd give you my tumblr but it's distinctly not safe for chickensmoothie so  besides, i'm sure i'm not the only one here who would like to cheer you on as you take the cosplay circuit by storm :D

next years builds include a transformation dress and an intricate wonderland fairy costume. I'll probably do some tests post NZCC this year when I have some downtime between complex builds. And Baby would be nice to do as a build. And yeah some of the behind the scenes models and stuff will help when it comes to creating my construction diary as it's a construction based competition, as lots of references are good. One of baby's monologues would make for a good skit too.
So this is becoming fun to think about.

and thank you for wanting to cheer me on. I can't say i'll make much progress on baby very quickly, but I'll try and make everyone at least in this community proud.

I looked at Kingbright, but either the sample colors aren't showing up on my computer properly, or they don't have the shade of white I'm looking for. I might try and get some LED lights that are programable, I've had good results with something similar in the Star Wars lightsaber industry
