The winter had started to thaw and the prey was beginning to stir. It was the first time they had a bit extra in the prey pile, for prey was especially scarce through the winter moons. The dogs had started to explore more and more of their territory and had found nothing of interest. No new dogs and no sign of long-paw camps either. Almond had found a little bit of thyme and yarrow, which would be good for new leaf sickness. Rose had started fawning over Koda, even when the alpha said there wasn't time for pups in winter. Rose replied that it would soon be spring, which kept Pepper from saying more. Koda, always the strong and adaptable type, took Rose's affections with stride and even loved her back.

After the long winter months the dogs needed some excitement, so when Rose and Koda announced they were mates, everyone barked with joy and started talking of a new nursery and playful pups.

Swinging Blades

Summer jumped at the snarling mountain lion who had traveled into their territory. The big cat powerfully clawed at the alpha. Summer was soon pinned to the ground and the cougar was pressing it's paws down on her chest. Dimitri chomped hard on it's tail and the cougar screamed in pain. It turned it's attention to him. Summer wasn't moving and Tobias protectively guarded her for the rest of the fight. He didn't leave her side and stood over her. Duke took a powerful swipe to his right eye. He collapsed and whimpered. "I can't see! My eye!"
The beast was growing ever tired. Both sides of the fight had taken hard blows. Verona and Dimitri were finally able to make it retreat. All of the dogs were tired.
Dimitri walked over to Duke. He was clutching it with his paw. "Let me see your face." Duke removed his paws and Dimitri winced. "Oh, this is bad. We need to get you to Lekkar. Your eye is bleeding too much. Come on. We need to go back to camp."
Summer mumbled and stirred. Tobias leaned in closer to her. "Summer, are you ok? We defeated the mountain lion. You look badly injured. We need to get you back to camp."
Summer slowly opened her eyes and attempted to move. She could not rise from the ground though. "Augh! I can't move." She attempted to stand again, her legs shaking. She let out a tiny whimper and fell once again.
Tobias worriedly said "Don't try to move. I'll carry you back to camp."
"No! I will not be carried. Dimitri come here. You and Tobias will assist me to Lekkar. Verona, you must guide Duke back to camp. We need to get out of here. There is only one reason a mountian lion would fight like that and that's if her babies are around. I'm not sure what would have happened if she made it to camp."
The five dogs slowly made it to camp.

The dogs started to return from their chores. Gracie, Keesha, and Maxie placed a bird in the prey pile. Lekkar and Rocco found celandine on their search. Soon the scent of blood filled the air. Titus, Callie, and Blitz all limped back to camp. Lekkar ran over to them and started examining their wounds. "Quickly, Rocco get all of the herbs. We need them immediately!" Rocco ran to get the herbs. Rocco started by putting cobwebs on Blitz's wounds. Lekkar started placing herbs on Titus.
Gracie and the other dogs ran over to their packmates. "What happened to you guys?!"
Blitz answered "The mountain lion got us. It was too strong. It's making it's way to camp. We should leave."
"Summer sent a party to take care of it. Hopefully they are alright."
Soon Blitz's and Titus' wounds were taken care of. Callie had cobwebs placed and she stopped bleeding. "Rocco do we have marigold?" "Uh, I can't find any." "Where's the marigold?! An infection is starting in on of Callie's wounds. We need some marigold and quick!"
"I'm on it. Someone please help me find it. Callie is not looking well."
"I'll go." Keesha replies. "Me too." Kota also adds. The three dogs run off to find the marigold.
Soon after they left, Summer's patrol walks back into camp.
Lekkar comments "More injured dogs?! Summer! Are you alright?"
Summer leans heavily on Tobias. He slowly puts her down. "I was defeated by the mountain lion."
"Ok, you wait here. I'm going to take care of Duke's eye." Duke was whining on the ground. Lekkar walked over to him. "Calm down Duke. I'm going to fix your eye." "Will I be able to see again?" "Of course. I just grabbed this today, so it's fresh. It's celandine and it has amazing healing powers on eyes. I anticipated that someone would get hurt in the face by a swipe from the cougar. They like to hit the face. Now hold still and open your eye wide. This juice won't hurt." Duke opened his eye as wide as he could and Lekkar squeezed the celandine on it.
Lekkar looked over summer. She was beat up, but did not need any herbs. "I suggest that you rest for now. Your're lucky that the mountain lion didn't do worse." Summer nodded.

Weather Report: The winter snows have just begun to melt away as sunlight
streams through the budging tree branches, warming the feral dog's backs as they
move along with their days. Their doesn't seem to be a chance of any flooding.

the rhythmic clicking of nails against hard stone was one of the many things that could be heard as a hulking dog swaggered gown a desterted alleyway, his massive body exuding a intimidating dominance.

His muscly neck was lifted high, erect cropped ears adorned utop his obsidian head. His long muzzle pointed forwards, black nose twitching faintly as he took an intake of breath, taking in the toxic stench of car exhaust, the factory fumes and even the repulsive scent of a human smoking a cigar. It was the kind of deadly scent that resulted in the coughing and spluttering of dogs who lived in the countryside, but for any street dog or pet it was a regular smell that became less apparent the longer they stayed in the bustling city.

Of course, not a single soul would dare even try to joke that this division of the large town was even remotely busy—not with the good kind, anyways. Only the cruelest lived on this side of town, this place of danger and freedom. Fights occurred daily, dogs fighting over the smallest of scrapes and constant workouts from running away from dog catchers keep the dogs of the city thin and skinny.

rexx padded through the trees, the pheasant he had caught gently resting in his mouth. he set the bird down and eyed the forest before him, something was different. he took a deep breath and realized that it was another dog! He padded forward carefully, not wanting to disturb the newcomer. when he entered the clearing, there was a large, dark brown down sniffing through some leaves. It was a shaman! The one he had wished for!

He sat down, and cleared his throat, "Hello?"

She jerked her head up, "Oh! Hi!"
