What Makes You Happy?52 acres of land, my sliding door open as a gentle summer breeze enters, making the curtain flutter softly. The chickens, ducks, and canaries make soft noises in the background. It's summer, in December, it always is in New Zealand, which means its warm while it snows for everyone else. My bedroom is a mess, clothes flung around the room while my bed remains clear, the only things taking up space is me, my laptop, my giant teddy bear and my fluffy ginger cat.
He's not ginger per-say, more of a champagne colour, but he's definitely fluffy and definitely malting in the summer's heat. My cat makes me happy, he's there all the time and makes me smile. His name is Budda and I've had him from the minute he was born. We owned his mother after all. When he was young he was small and Garfield ginger and fat... So fat he wasn't able to put all four paws on the ground.
He's very talkative. He walks into the room and meows, mewls, purrs and chirrups to get my attention and even after he does he will continue to have a conversation with me. Nuzzling under my hand and under my chin to sit in my lap as I draw. He likes to be carried and held. He will purposely run into a room he knows he's not supposed to be in just to make you pick him up and carry him.
He has golden eyes that swirl to make the gold colour look melted and ever-changing. He sits right next to me as I type this, facing the dogs of the lounge to purr as I occasionally stop typing to talk to him and pat him, watching the fur fly off into the breeze that's being pushed through the doors. He has a pink nose and big paws. He comes when called and chases me over the driveway. He'll climb up the poles that lead to our deck on the second story if it means he's going to get attention.
I call him Budda, that is his name. I call him my pantaloony baby, his long fur stops at his ankles as switches to short fur making it look like he wears pantaloons. I call him baby, because that's what he is, my baby. I call him Boobah, close enough to Budda but not, a name that was picked up out of nowhere but he seems to respond to it just fine.
He's what makes me happy because he's always there, through thick and thin, he's a consistant thing in my life, he's there when I'm sad and when I'm happy. He's there in the summer and winter. He's there during the day and with me during the night. I wouldn't be who I am today without him. There's many reason why he makes me happy, but there's another...
He loves me... and I love him too.
