Ember & Kiru

Ember crouched low across the ground as she walked slowly. "Always remember to crouch low to ground when your stalking the prey, then when you get close enough..." Ember scrunched her body up and leapt. "Jump!" She finished as she flew through the air. She landed on the ground with the pads of her paws. A loud thump echoed around them. Ember turned her head to look at Kiru. "Now you try," She whispered with her usual bubbly smile. Kiru scrunched himself as the same way his mother did and leapt into the air. He pretended to actually land on something. When he finally met the ground he took a large bite of the imaginary animal and chewed. "That was just wonderful, Kiru," She complimented and gave him a lick on the forehead. Kiru pouted his lip and looked up at her. "Now can we get something for real to eat now?" He whimpered. "Of course. How does fish sound, hmm?" Kiru nodded his head quickly and darted to her side.
After a few minutes of walking they came upon a wide rapidly flowing river. Kiru licked his chops, but did not race to the lake. Instead he waited by his mother's side until she spoke the rules. "Now is going to be your time to sine Kiru. I want you to actually catch a fish for you to eat. It must be medium sized or smaller," Ember barked. She was confident he would catch one, but she wasn't always right.
Kiru slithered to the river bank and studied the river's features carefully. Then his eyes went strait to the hyperactive fish. They knew he was there, but they were to ignorant to swim away. Kiru did as his mother taught him and splashed into the water. He batted his paws violently. When he surfaced he was empty handed. His face he turned and gave his mother a disappointed look. "I'm sorry," He whined. Ember gave him a glorious smile. "It's fine love, it was only your first try anyway," She soothed.
Ember grabbed Kiru by the scruff and lifted him from the water. She trudged him to a spot in the grass that has been warmed by the sun. "Dry off and watch the master," She said sternly. Ember drifted close to the water. Her eyes darted back and forth watching the fish stir around. They were even more crazed, thanks to Kiru and his vigorous batting. Ember finally spotted a fish that seemed helpless. She dove in and snatched the fish with one chomp of her jaws. She padded out of the water and gave a graceful shake of her damp fur. Ember trotted back to Kiru and dropped the fish in front of him. "Eat up," She whispered.
