Her parents adopted her when she was one year old. Her adopted father works and her adopted mother stays home. She is in the middle class. She goes to a public school. It is her first year of middle school. She takes the most advanced classes that she can.
Her school identified as gifted when she was in kindergarten. She was then placed in the school's gifted program, which continued through fifth grade. School came easily to her, so she always got good grades. She was usually bored, but she stayed quiet and well-behaved because of her adopted parents' teaching. She quickly developed a love of reading, computers, and logic. All of her teachers loved her because she was well-behaved. She usually felt awkward around her peers, because all of them knew her as "the smart girl" and as being in the gifted program. She didn't like being called smart because she didn't feel like she was and didn't know how to respond. She felt like the people she considered her friends merely tolerated her. She had few common interests with her peers, and often felt lonely. She didn't have very much confidence in herself, even though she often succeeded at things. Because of her time spent alone, she found that she enjoyed writing and mathematics.
