Searchlights
Searching through the dark
Treading quietly over the clouds in the cold sky.
The fire sends up sparks
Sparks that match the stars
And only blankets cover you on this windy night.

One night, the sun stayed up late,
The stars were induced in such hate,
That someone out-shone,
In the night sky they own,
And they still complain to this date.

A plan to avenge their sky,
To the sun's domain they would fly,
But with so much light,
And humans in a fright,
They decided to give up their try.

The quite whisper of wind that seems so near.
Though it comes from afar,
I cannot help but look at the light of a single star,

Silhouetted by the light,
The wondrous, beautiful moonlight.
I see the glowing eyes,
Whose brightness challenges even the sun.

A widening of my eyes, a wisp of frost-bitten breath,
A thought, the quick beat of a frantic heart.
I stand, frozen, not only eyes, but heart,
Locked onto the shadowed figure.

A sudden bound, and then another,
Into the bushes disappears the figure, away with my heart.

It comes in the dusk
Stretching it's legs
It creeps up to the sun
Grabbing it till it sneaks down to the ground
Then it floods
Covering the whole sky in a brightless gasp

And there he comes
Dashing as ever
Suit and all with a striking white tie
It's Night himself
Dressed up in what has made him

He stretches his hand out to those remaining bold flicks of light
To which he calls the Stars
As they dance till the Sun might rise again
