▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓『CHAPTER 1』▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓

W A R N I N G
Potentially sensitive topics:
Cutting, depression.

"Mako...Makoce, darling. It's time to wake up." said a familiar voice.

“Makoooo...I know you’re playing pretend. C’mon sleepyhead, you can’t stay in bed forever.” It cooed.

"Mako...." Another more agitated, deep and loud voice grumbled. This made me shift uncomfortably.

"MAKOCE ASIDIAN!"

"Gah! Who? What?!" I yelled as I got on my feet, frantically looking around my room for the source of the scary voice. I turned to a large and tall figure that towered before me. By just his body alone, I figured that it was my leader, Lysander. I looked up at him, eyes still a little droopy but from what I could make out of my blurry vision, he didn't look happy. His yellow eyes glowed in the eeriness and darkness of my room which made him look more terrifying than he already was. Lysander wasn't one to mess with and for good reason. He had sharp facial features; muscular body and claws and teeth as sharp as a spear. His thick and dense fur was brown-black with highlights of yellow as contrast and below said fur was probably hundreds of scars that littered his body. His face alone was shredded from the past war and fights. He's faced it all. Bullets , spears, arrows, blades...even explosives. I think he could be immortal!

“You're late for training again. The second time in a row. What has gone into you, kid?" Lysander said in an angry tone. His voice was deep and the slightest bit raspy. The tension and sternness in it was feared by all. I could feel the hairs on my tail stand up as he growled deeply, waiting for an answer. It took me a while to reply.

"I-it's just...I was tired, sir.." I managed to say before lowering my head to look at the floor. "It won't happen again, I promise." I finished, emphasizing the word ’promise’

"You keep promising things but each promise you make always gets broken. You and I both know that you won’t keep that pathetic promise of yours. Stop messing around, kid. This isn't daycare, this is a training facility whether you like it or not!" I kept my head low as he ranted. My eyes were getting watery and I hated it.

Lysander snarled. "Look at me when I'm talking to you!" he said as he hit me in the face. I was easily caught off guard by the swift motion and the force slammed me against the wall. The hit admittedly hurt more than it should've only because I wasn't paying attention. I laid on the floor with my tail covering most of my body and my paws covering my eyes, shying away from Lysander's direction. The sound of his scoff and footsteps that were heading my way made me shake in fear.

"I want you to be the first in the training court tomorrow morning. No more messing around. I've given you too many chances already. Do you understand?" He said after moving my paws aside and making me look at him face to face. I felt embarrassed that he could see tears rolling down my cheeks. I quickly nodded at his question just to make him go away. Lysander huffed in disappointment and backed up to exit my room.

Just as Lysander was about to leave, he glared at me and said "I don't tolerate slackers and you know what happens to slackers when they push my limits." Before shutting the door close, ending it with a bang. It took me a while to get back up on my feet but once I did, I quickly washed up my face and headed out to the training court.

Once I arrived, everyone was already taking their first break on one side of the room. Allison, my superior, was on the other. Allison was a beautiful being. She had soft fur which was pastel pink with lavender stripes going down her body, long hair with pink highlights in it but it's usually trapped in a bun, an elegant tail with beads parting the tail fur away into 3 sections and a metal plate under her chin, right on top of where her voice box is supposed to be. During the war, her neck was badly ripped and her voice box was unusable as well as he esophagus. With the power of technology, both her voice box and esophagus was fixed. Of course, she has to live with a metal plate on her neck, eating only soft foods and having a robotic voice but none of those make her any less perfect.

She signaled me to come over to her. I didn't hesitate and quickly ran up to her, giving her a tight hug. "Why where you late? Was it the nightmares that kept you awake again?" She asked in her usual calming and sweet robotic tone. I nodded my head as I rested it against her chest. “Did Lysander bother you about it?” I nodded again, whimpering. Allison cuddled me and purred in hopes that the vibrations could help me calm down. Vague memories of hearing that my mother and father had been killed still haunted me. They were a part of the First Great War and died like soldiers. People always put a high pedestal for me just because I was the offspring of two talented fighters. Though, I didn't blame them. Admittedly, I'm pretty weak to begin with. Allison sighed softly as she used her soft paws to guide my head upwards, my eyes looking into hers.

"Don't let the monsters into your head. You're stronger than this, I know it." Allison hummed as she held me close.

"But...what if they're not monsters and they're just people that keep telling me that I'm bad at everything?" I asked, confused about the strong, painful and sad feelings I've been having lately.

"Well I think you're amazing.." Allison laughed and groomed my messy fur. "You are a being that should have the right to make your own decisions and actions. Choose whichever path you think is right. Follow your heart, and you'll never go wrong." I was still left quite confused.

"Well...what if my heart tells me to...go...and...die?" I managed to say before my voice cracked from the sudden flow of sadness. "Sometimes I just...feel like I'm not good enough. Like I can't do anything. I try my hardest! I really do! But whenever I do it, it's not good enough and I just...don't get motivated to try again." I exclaimed but my voice turned into a soft mutter nearing the end of my sentence. She let out a sigh and looked up at the windowed ceiling. Behind the clear barrier was the starry sky that held puffy, soft pink clouds. I looked up too, mimicking her.

"You know...when I was younger, I always wanted to be a cloud." Allison said. I turned away from the sky and looked at her, letting out a soft snort of confusion. "What? Why?" I asked with a weak smile. She chuckled and looked back at me. "Well...they always seem so free. They don't have to do much. They just have to sit there in the sky, looking down at us. Occasionally, they cry. Even if they're crying or sitting, they're always so beautiful and calming to look at." At this point, I felt like Allison was sad. I wasn't sure why she was sad or how I could tell but I nuzzled her shoulder and leaned against it.

"Well I think you're beautiful and calming. Even if you're crying or sitting..." I said in an attempt to cheer her up. Allison's eyes widened a little, looking a little startled. She looked down at me and smiled. "You're the sweetest little thing, Mako." She said and nuzzled me back. I purred and chuffed happily as she rubbed her soft fur against mine.

"Your heart is like a cloud, little Mako. It's beautiful and calming, but fragile and it can occasionally cry. Thunderstorms are your uncontrollable anger. The tough obstacles in your life are like strong winds. One blow and you're torn into pieces." Allison purred, pulling away from me. "But, one difference between your heart and the clouds is that no one can see you cry. You always hide it from public view and you never tell anyone. Due to the built up self-hatred and sadness, you result to hurting yourself." She finished, closing her eyes near the end. I gasped a little and folded back my ears. How did she know?

"Express your feelings more often, Mako. All the anger and sadness within you will only escalate to make a bomb filled with a flurry of emotions. That isn't good for your mental and physical health." Her tone was serious. Allison not looking at me only made me feel more bad. I lowered my head and lifted my paws to look at the deep cuts and scars imbedded into my skin. I flinched at Allison's paw as she moved over to gently stroke my arm, feeling each cut I made.

"I...I...I'm sorry...I...I.." I managed to hesitate out before Allison pulled me in for a hug. "There's no need to explain. I know the feeling and I've done similar things but this isn't the way to help yourself. I learned that the hard way." I heard her say as I buried my face in her fur, crying softly in her embrace. "I love you so much, my little Mako. If you are ever sad, you can always come up to me to talk about it." Allison finished as I cried harder.

After a long while of crying, I pulled away and rubbed my eyes. She wiped away the remaining tears and groomed my fur. "You feeling better?" I nodded in response with a soft "mhm" and a weak smile. Allison smiled back after she stopped licking my fur.

"Thank you....you always know what to say." I said, putting a full smile back on my face. I was still pretty sad but I appreciated the advice that Allison gave. Both of us stood up after we heard the bell, indicating that break was over.

"Now lets get to training, shall we?" She asked. I nodded and participated in the course with a better mood than before.

▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓『CHAPTER 2』▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓

W A R N I N G
Potentially sensitive topics:
None(?)

For the past few days I've been pretty productive. I woke up early, slept well, ate healthy and of course, I talked to Allison about my problems. Things were starting to look good for me. The smile Allison placed still hasn't left me. People never understood my connection with Allison but all they need to know is that she's always been with me even before the day my parents died. I see her as my surrogate mother and nothing can break the bond between us.

As I made my way to the Training Court, I could hear arguing coming from Lysander's office. I shrugged it off and didn't think much of it. Assuming it was just another argument about someone breaking the water cooler, I started to walk off; but then...

"Mako would reach greater heights with new cybernetic limbs, Allison." I heard Lysander exclaim.

"Yes but replacing healthy limbs is unethical and wrong!" She argued in response. Curiosity was lingering in my body. I was tempted to stay and eavesdrop but getting caught would get me into huge trouble. I ran to the Training Court as fast as I could so I would avoid said possibility. As usual, I was the first there. I got onto the grey, steel bench and laid down. The atmosphere was cold but I liked it that way. I took a deep breath and thought about what Lysander and Allison argued about. Cybernetic limbs don't sound too bad...but I trusted Allison enough to think she was right. Lysander tends to make bad decisions...besides, he creeps me out.

I started to wander in my own thoughts for a while as I played with my tail. It wasn't as long or soft as Allison's but I still liked playing with it to calm me down. Then, I heard the speakers go off. I flinched at the noise but lifted my ears up to hear what the announcement was.

"Trainee Makoce, I repeat, Trainee Makoce; Lysander would like to speak to you in his office. Training is postponed today. It will be rescheduled soon." Was what the robotic voice said. By then some of the other trainees had already arrived. They gave me a weird look and walked off to their rooms until the training session was back on. We all knew that whoever was called to Lysander's office was usually in serious trouble. I stood up hesitantly, my mind was going all over the place.

"Did he see me eavesdropping? Did I forget to do my work again? Did I break something?" And other questions circled my mind as I made my way to his office. I really didn't know what to expect but I didn't want to be in deeper trouble if I didn't show up on time. Punctuality is overly important in Lysander's eyes.

I rang the doorbell; once I heard a soft shift of the big metal door, which meant it unlocked, I pushed the door open and there I saw Lysander and Allison sitting across each other. Lysander's office was dark and the only sort of brightness was a few dim lights attached on the wall. This made the scene eerie...kinda like in horror movies.

"Permission to enter, sir?" I asked. Lysander simply nodded and gestured me to sit down near them. The look on Allison's face didn't look like a happy one. This sort of scared me because Allison rarely gets upset. It takes something extremely serious to tick her off.

"Mako. Allison and I would like to have a discussion about some...alterations to your body." Lysander said, looking at Allison the whole time he was speaking.

"What kind of alterations, if I may ask?" I responded, pretending to not know what he was talking about.

"He wants to add cybernetic parts to your body and potentially ki-" Allison quickly said before Lysander grabbed her by the snout to keep her mouth closed. I flinched at this. His claws were out and too close to Allison.

"Before I snap your neck, Allison, keep your mouth shut." Lysander snarled. They exchanged angry glances before Lysander pulled his paw away. That threat made my ears fold back in a defensive manner. I wanted to knock Lysander's paw away from Allison so badly but I knew how much stronger he was than me. My worst bites and slashes are mere nips and scratches on his tough skin.

"What I was going to say, before Allison rudely interrupted me is that I want you to have cybernetic implants to enhance your fighting skills, stamina, strength and agility. The backplate helps with your stability but that's pretty much it. With new cybernetic limbs, you could potentially be our best fighter." Lysander said with a half smile. Allison wanted to say something but she hesitated when Lysander growled at her.

"Well...that does sound pretty cool, sir...when do I get them?" I asked, actually...changing my mind and going against Allison for once. I mean, they're just cybernetic parts and if they could aim me a spot for leader of the warriors then I'm interested!

"Now wait just a minute, Lysander. He needs to hear both sides of the story." Allison said as she frowned at me, showing her distaste in my intrigued manner towards Lysander's idea. He rolled his eyes and gestured her to continue.

"Okay...what I was going to say is that...the cybernetic parts could potentially kill you in the process of implanting them. We have only ever replaced disabled, broken or unhealthy limbs. Replacing a completely healthy limb with the unnecessary intention of improving one's skill is unethical and very risky to do and I nor the surgeons want to be the reason of a sweet young boy's avoidable death. Rethink your decision, Mako, dear." Allison said as her voice cracked in-between words.

Lysander scoffed in an annoyed tone and pushed her aside. "That's enough, Allison. Now, boy. You have a whole night to decide. Choose carefully. You have a chance to be a leader, Mako. If I were you, this decision should be an easy one. I want to hear your answer early tomorrow before you go to training. No acceptions. Dismissed." During the whole time he was speaking, Allison tried to interrupt multiple times. I didn't really know how to react and simply nodded. It all happened so fast and I was confused out of my mind.

"Yes, sir..." I muttered hesitantly and got up. The two superiors bickered a bit before I hastily walked out the door. Once the door locked behind me, I looked back at it only to hear louder and angrier arguing and yelling. I couldn't to anything to help without me being killed so I walked back to my room, still concerned about Allison's well-being.

It's been a few hours since the talk. I was eating a snack as I sat in bed, extremely uncomfortable and anxious. I didn't feel like eating anything heavy. I was far from hungry, actually. I was just stress-eating. Either way, hunger was the least of my problems. I was mostly uncomfortable and anxious as to what Lysander could do to Allison out of public's view. Another one of my problems was the decision I had to make between cybernetic parts that could either kill me or make a leader or no cybernetic parts but cannot kill me nor make me into a leader. I was kinda conflicted to Lysander's idea after what Allison had told me. After all, she does know how much I fear pain...but...becoming the leader in the Great War is not a title taken lightly by others. It's a major role and one small mistake could result to the impending doom of our species; but it does has its benefits. Leaders are usually treated like royalty and get whatever they please. A life like that sounds...awesome. Growing up, I was never respected or important. I wasn't rich nor good looking either so it was hard for me to get along with anyone in my standards. My friends have always been bugs or trainers but having a chance of dying if I choose Lysander's idea isn't something very appealing to hear. I wandered in my mind for a little while more until I heard a knock on my door.

Without hesitation, I said "Come in." I really didn't know why I didn't ask who it was but with my current situation, I couldn't care less. To my surprise, it was Allison. I quickly stood up and padded my way to her. "Are you okay? Did Lysander do anything to you?" I asked in sheer panic as I looked around her body. Allison let out a small laugh and ruffled my hair.

"I'm fine. I'm not weak, Mako." She hummed and closed the door behind her. "So...have you made your decision yet?" I didn't reply immediately because she was wearing a cloak. It was unusual because she has openly expressed that she doesn't like clothing or anything on her.

I sighed at her question and nodded eventually. "Being the leader of the war and having cybernetic parts sounds cool but I'd rather much stay alive and not have to make species-dependent decisions." She sighed in relief and hugged me tight. I hugged back almost immediately. "Thank you, Mako.." She said, nuzzling my fur as I felt her body relax.

"But I've gotta ask...why are you so against the idea of cybernetic parts....?" She flinched at my words and pulled away. I felt like I shouldn't have asked that question.

"Like I said, it is unethical and dangerous to replace a limb." Allison snarled softly.

"Well what if it's for the better? You know...to enhance skill?"

"It's still wrong."

"How so?"

I could tell that Allison was just as frustrated as I was.

▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓『CHAPTER 3』▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓

W A R N I N G
Potentially sensitive topics:
Murder

It's been a few days since I talked with Allison. After that mini-fight, we exchanged our apologies and left it at that. Training was held by a substitute and it made me uncomfortable not hearing from her for the past few days. After a few questions from her peers and some eavesdropping here and there, I was told that she was in the infirmary because of a serious health condition. Man...I eavesdrop a lot. Of course, after I knew about her condition, I made my way to get sick bay as soon as possible. The nurses were kind enough to let me inside for a little while to where I was greeted to a pale and weak Allison. I ran up by her side and took her in my arms for a hug. She laughed weakly in response and hugged back. I asked some questions and we had a little conversation but finally I asked "What happened to you?"

Allison's eyes could barely crack open but she did respond with a faint and weak sentence: "Meet me in the gardens at midnight." I didn't know why but I nodded my head. The nurses told me to go after this and they escorted me outside. Something about this didn't feel right...

The hallways were haunting at night. The only sort of light in the base at this time of day was a blue light that emitted dimly from the ceiling. Of course, the scary darkness, the probability of seeing a ghost and potentially getting caught out of my dorm and being punished for it didn't stop me from exiting the central hub and into the gardens.

There, sitting on top of a shallow hill was Allison. The gardens were a pretty place; such a shame that rarely anyone visits it. The flowers and shrubbery were planted beautifully and many types trees towered over it all. The array of colors from the flowers made the scenery gorgeous to photograph. As I walked  in, my paws felt at ease as they stepped on the soft dirt and grass. I was a little startled because it's been while since I've felt real grass but I quickly got used to the nice feeling. It was easy to breathe in here. This was one of the last places with fresh air in our territory.

Allison, she was looking at the ebony night sky that was tinted with a hint of pale violet. Said sky held the moon and stars and the same pink clouds from last time were still there. This time, they were on the move due to the gentle winds blowing on them.

I lowered my head and stepped closer to her quietly...well... until I stepped on a twig. It cracked and Allison turned her head to face me. She was still wearing that cloak; but underneath it was her sweet eyes and smile. I smiled back and sat by her side. "I'm glad you came." She said, starting a conversation. "Well why wouldn't I?"

The smile she kept on her face didn't last long. It slowly turned into a frown. "What's wrong...? You've been acting weird lately." I asked, genuinely concerned. Allison lowered her ears and looked at the ground.

"A war is about to start. Sooner than we've ever predicted. After the ambush from the Aliens, we've lost soldiers and some of the fallen ones were our best fighters. The Aliens know that we're struggling because our defenses have been lessening and getting weaker." I rubbed my arm, kinda scared that the Second World War would happen literally any time now.

"Well what does this have to do with me...?" I asked. Allison touched the metal plate just below her chin, stroking the cold and smooth surface. "Lysander wants a weapon. A weapon strong enough to hold them back for a while until the army is ready; and that weapon is you, Mako." Allison exclaimed, her head leaned towards mine. My ears folded back, backing up a little from Allison. "What? Why me?!" I shouted. Allison covered my mouth with her paw and gestured me to lower my voice. Once she moved her paw away, I whispered "I'm one of the weakest students?" in a confused tone.

"That's where the cybernetic parts come in. When you're knocked unconscious, not only he'll replace your arms, but your entire head in hopes of getting control of your body and actions. I've seen the drafts...I've heard it all!" She cried.

"I still don't get why he'd choose me." I grumbled and pouted. Out of all the students, it had to be me. I was pretty upset all right. Lysander just doesn't want to give me a break, now does he?

Allison's eyes were glossy and watery at this point. She bit her lip, her eyes looking away from mine. "It's time that I'd tell you something...it...might be a lot for you to handle...." Allison said in a soft tone. She took a deep breath and I gestured her to continue, assuring her that I'll be okay.

"You are the result of a successful experiment. You have telepathic powers and abilities within you that no one can comprehend."

I kept quiet, trying to process what I just heard. "Say again?" I said. She sighed and looked back at me, repeating her sentence slowly. At first, I was struck with confusion. Then pain and a hint of anger hit me. Soon, my emotions went all over the place and I felt so...lied to. "So...you're telling me, I'm was born for the soul purpose of becoming a weapon?" Allison nodded at my question, making me more upset. "And how do I have powers? I thought only legendary Aliens have them?" I said angrily. I wasn't angry at Allison of course, I was mad at everyone else.

"Lysander has connections with a rebel Alien. They were capable of gathering magic somehow and infusing said magic into you. I don't know how they were able to do this, but that isn't my main concern as of now. Don't let Lysander or any of his affiliates near you." She explained. I nodded my head. "Aren't you an affiliate?" I asked hesitantly. Allison shook her head in disapproval.

"Far from it...Lysander forced me to 'be one' and I didn't have much input into the decision. I far from support this war and the Aliens too want this to stop. Of course, it's 'Killed or Be Killed' in Lysander's book. The Aliens only ambushed us because the soldiers were wandering too close to their territory. Apparently Lysander saw that as a threat and wants to push the war nearer to the present."

I nodded in understanding and nuzzled her. "I'll keep myself safe. You should too..."

.
.
.

From the shadows, Lysander watched and heard as Allison and Makoce spoke. Even if he had expected Allison to give away the plan sooner or later, with every word that pierced his ears, made him angrier by the second. As payback, beside him were four of his personal soldiers.

"Attack them but make sure the pup lives. We cannot let her get in the way of the progression of our best soldier." He said in a serious, deep and menacing tone. Lysander kept a grin on his face as the soldiers nodded under their masks and jumped out of the building and into the Gardens.

The ground very faintly shook below them. The loud rustling from the trees didn't sound like the wind. Mako's ear twitched in curiosity and he looked around. "What is it?" Allison asked. Mako shrugged and kept his ears perked to hear what was lurking. "Let's move somewhere else..." Mako whispered, having a bad feeling about this. He nudged Allison into the other direction. The only sounds now were the crunching of the leaves below them and the occasional chirping from the crickets nearby. They stopped after they were far away from where they were just now, keeping high guard.

It became dead silent until one of the smaller soldiers pounced at Allison, pinning her down. "ALLISON!" Mako screamed. As he was about to pounce on the soldier, another more bigger and heavier one grabbed his tail and pinned him down before he could do so. Allison and Mako both kicked the soldiers away from them and making a run for it. "Who are they?!" Mako asked, breathless and panting. "Lysander's personal soldiers." She simply replied. Allison stumbled as she ran after enduring a slash on her arm. Mako tried his best to hold her up but the soldiers were too fast for her to outrun. Mako did the only logical thing he could and carried Allison on his back with the soldiers still trailing them. He turned a sharp corner, Allison gripping onto him as hard as she could. "Mako... you can't outrun them..! They're too fast..." Allison cried as the soldiers were easily catching up. Mako tried his hardest, he's never ran so fast in his life. He frantically looked for a possible escape route, and to his luck, there it was. A rocky and steep hill. Mako was bad at many things, but certainly not rock climbing. He's done this many times before and that's how he got his metal backplate in the first place.

Mako quickly jumped on one rock and onto the next. The rocks were slippery from the rain from the night before but Mako kept his grip. He jumped and climbed swiftly as the two soldiers below them struggled to keep up. Allison glanced to their left and gasped as she saw the shine of the metal barrel of a shotgun.

"MAKO!"

Suddenly, a fierce and sharp pain pierced right through his chest, elbow and back.  His feet trembled at the sudden feeling and he missed his jump and fell with Allison. Their bodies knocked and smashed against the sharp edges of the rocks as they fell. Once they reached to the bottom, Allison was barely able to move her front legs. Mako, struggled to move at all but he got back up, taking a blade to the back of his neck from defending Allison from the smaller soldier. Mako was swiftly kicked away from her and he felt someone stepping on his head, anchoring him down to the ground. All he could do was struggle as he watched the other three soldiers grab onto Allison. She cried and screeched in fear but they kept her shut by ripping open her mechanical voice box and cutting the wires, rendering her voice useless.

One of the smaller soldiers whipped out a jaw blade, it's steel shimmered in the light. It was razor sharp and had some sort of marking on its side. Allison was breathing heavily as the blade creeped up to her, grazing her cheek. The soldier made a few small cuts as a warning if she struggled more. "Any last words, Superior?" The soldier with the blade spoke as the wires were connected back to allow her to speak. She snarled and hastily said "This isn't the last of me!" Before the blade cut right through her neck.  Mako yelled but his snout was forcefully shut by the paw of the larger being on top of him. Tears escaped both Allison and Mako's eyes as the blade did its job.

Everything seemed to be in slow-motion. Mako could feel his heart shatter as Allison's soul is swept away from her body. The blade, covered in blood, was cleaned off and retracted. All eyes were now on Mako. His eyes were teary and his body was weak from the wounds. The smell of blood lingered in the once fresh air. Nothing could be more traumatizing than this.

"Let's get the pup to Lysander." One said.

"But what about the body?" Another asked.

"Leave it here to rot. It'll decompose."

Mako could feel consciousness slip away from his grasp as his body was dragged against the rough gravel beneath him. He whined softly, not attempting to get away as he knew that he was too weak to battle four highly trained soldiers. The last thing he saw before passing out was Allison's lifeless eyes. The eyes that belonged to the only person that has ever cared for him after the tragedy.

"Sir... are you certain that you want to risk this operation on Makoce? He's very weak and damaged." A surgeon stuttered as Makoce was wheeled into the operation room, sedated and ready for operation. "Of course! We cannot waste any time. The Aliens are going to attack soon and we need to be ready!" Lysander growled in response. "All due respect sir, but there's a high chance that Makoce will be unresponsive after operation." Another responded. Lysander frustrated, he bashed the wall with his strong, thick tail, leaving a crack in the wall. The surgeons got the message and got ready to start operating. He exited the room and started to walk back to his office until he saw something. From the corner of his eye, he spotted a figure hidden in the darkest parts of the hallway. He couldn't quite make up who it was but by the silhouette alone, he could tell that it wasn't just one person.

"So...hows the progress of our little Mako?" A male voice asked in a robotic tone, emerging from the shadows. The dim light bounced off of the metal and reflected onto the walls. The figure was large but not as large as Lysander. His hood draped over his head and on his back, covering most of his identity. The only thing that could be seen of the being was his purple glowing eyes and his furry tail. The second walked out of the darkness too, their metal mask reflecting light in the same manner. This figure was relatively smaller than the other. It was more feminine and noticeably rounder features even if most of its body was covered by a matching hood. Lysander definitely recognized the voices and features of these figures and smirked a little. "He's being worked on now. Had to put some force into getting the surgeons to cooperate but it all worked out in the end." He replied. "Well what about Allison? Didn't she strongly disagree on your idea?" The female asked, swishing her sleek, short-furred tail back and forth slowly. "I took care of the problem." Lysander chuckled and walked into his office. He let the two follow and even let them inside. He hopped up onto his chair and sat down, placing his paws on the desk and leaned forward a little. "We are going to win this battle once and for all."

A week later

It was dark in the room. Oh so dark. It has been like this for so long, Mako forgot what sunlight looked like. As Mako slowly slipped into consciousness, he felt like he was bounded upright. What happened...?

Oh no.

Something felt alarmingly off...well...his whole body was numb. In fact, his whole upper body ached. Mako couldn't move. He felt like he was paralyzed but at the same time we wasn't. Mako's head was lowered and heavy, putting painful pressure on his neck; his chest and arms were just as hard to lift. He tried to move his aching body parts desperately but it wasn't budging. Mako swished the tip of his tail back and forth gently and he stretched his back paws ever so slightly but other then that, he was motionless. Mako was terrified for good reason because he couldn't see, hear, smell or open his mouth either.

Lights suddenly flashed on, brightening the room drastically. Mako, of course, couldn't tell that the lights had been turned on. The doors opened, making a soft steam hissing sound. Lysander stepped into the room, closing in on Mako as the doors shut behind him. He looked up at the scientists above, in a booth placed up high, overlooking the whole room. This wasn't just an ordinary room, this was a testing facility.

"Was the operation a success?" Lysander asked. The scientists nodded in response."Yes, sir. Although...there are some issues that could get in the way." One of the scientists said. Lysander frowned slightly. "And what are those issues?" The scientists looked at each other and back at Lysander to see he was tapping his tail impatiently on the ground, waiting for a response. "He still has the ability to use his brain, sir. He is able to disrupt programming and make his own decisions." Lysander snarled angrily at this, "Well fix it!" He snapped.

The scientists flinched at this. "There is no way we can remove his brain completely. We've already pushed the ethicality boundaries of cybernetic parts completely and without his brain, he would not be fully functional." Lysander, disappointed, he sighed. "Fine. It doesn't matter. He will obey my commands now that he isn't fully organic. Activate module 1 and start the program while you're at it." He spoke. The scientists obeyed his commands and their paws quickly tapped on the control panels.

Whirring and steam hissing noises started to arise as they activated a generator placed behind Mako. It was connected to Mako's backplate with several wires all in different sizes and thickness. A scientist pulled a lever and the generator shot some sort of fluorescent liquid into Mako...an essence. Lysander stepped back as he saw his creation come to life,

His weapon.

Mako could hear, see and smell again. He could also lift his head and move his front paws. The feeling overjoyed him after being motionless and senseless for so long but that joy didn't last when he saw Lysander of all people standing right in front of him. Suddenly, from the upright position he was in, he dropped to the floor. Mako was a little startled when he could only move his back legs. Then...he saw it. His paws...they were...robotic.

Mako could feel himself being 'switched on' as his non-organic parts seemed to move on command. Not on his, but someone else's. He desperately tried to move them once more but it was no use. Lysander walked towards Mako with a menacing grin on his face. "Makoce Asidian. Are you responsive?" He asked. Internally, Mako yelled out "What did you do to me? How could you kill Allison like that?!" But all that came out was "Yes, sir." His voice was robotic and cold. Mako had no control over what he was saying either. Lysander circled Mako at a slow pace, admiring his masterpiece.

His whole head had been replaced with an artificial one. Mako's brain was still intact mentally. The scientists had uploaded everything in his mind into a hard-drive but everything else that was once organic on his head was gone. His forehead and basically, his whole skull, was replaced with a clear dome that had small blue iridescent particles floating around in almost transparent liquid. His mouth was no longer; instead, it was replaced with metal plates, his ears unfortunately met the same fate.

Mako's neck was mostly organic other than his nerves and veins being replaced with tech and wires. Said tech and wires were visibly glowing white even under all of his fur.

A little lower down was his chest, stomach and shoulders. Sleek white metal covered it all. The craftsmanship on each plate was divine. Sadly, the armor was designed for a wicked purpose. The front parts of his shoulders were slots that had barrels that held powerful energy balls that could wipe out several soldiers at once. The back held thrusters powerful enough for Mako to burst through walls of any material or if he wanted a quick getaway, he could always use the thrusters as a jet pack.

Originally, Mako had a backplate to stabilize his spine but other then that, he was completely free of cybernetic parts. Now, his whole body was taken over by technology. All of this overwhelmed him and all he could feel was anger.

Mako flinched slightly, being able to have the slightest control over his new body. Oh he would do anything to lunge at Lysander and claw his face out. Lysander chuckled and licked his lips. "I know exactly what you're thinking, Mako. You're stronger than I had originally predicted. No matter, you will obey me and there's nothing you can do to escape or prevent it." He mocked, standing proud, still towering over Mako even if he was a little taller than last time.

Lysander pulled his attention away from Mako and onto the scientists. "Start training the boy. Use brute force because this particular one is extremely stubborn. I don't know how Oasis and Ryland could've made such a troublesome pup but no matter what, I want him completely obeying every command and being able to fight well by the end of this month." He snarled and walked out of the room, closing the door behind him. They sighed to one another and got to work almost immediately. It would be a long month for both Mako and the scientists.

__________

Mako screamed and cried as his body was shocked with painful surges of electricity each time he did something wrong. Each time a surge was pulsed through him, the weaker he got, but Lysander kept insisting to use this method. There was a small, circular device attached onto his back that was the source of the painful shocks. As Mako fought the fake, robotic sentries, he tried to crush or knock the device off while he was at it.

"Lysander does not understand that Mako is extremely sensitive to pain...this is making him weaker by the second!" Exclaimed one scientist by the name of Holstein. He was leaning against the empty section of the control panel, saddened at the sight of Mako desperately trying to not mess up to earn another shock.

"We mustn't question Lysander. Besides...we would get in huge trouble if he found out that we were not using brute force just like he asked us to." A female scientist replied. She was called Rochelle. Rochelle was in charge of shocking the boy if he made a mistake. She followed Lysander's orders, but each shock she made only made her feel horrible.

"The kid must be traumatized. I mean...c'mon! He's lost everyone dear to him...now he's being forced to be Lysander's plaything and the world's most powerful weapon! I pity him, honestly. He's so young too." Another spoke. Her name was Skylar. They all sighed in unison and kept this up from morning till' sunset, everyday of the week. At most, Mako got an hour rest. On some days, none at all.

__________

It was a Saturday night. Training for today had just ended and as usual, Mako was directed to his room. Although, it wasn't exactly a room. More like a cell. Three solid grey walls of concrete and thick, heavy duty glass as the front. Just after they place Mako in his cell, they extract the power within him and he's unable to move any body part that's made out of metal.

For weeks, his routine was to wake up, train, sleep and repeat. This was absolutely torturous and painful on him and his energy. Although Mako is powered by some sort of essence in the form of a liquid, he can still feel every move he makes and thus, tires him out even if it doesn't seem like it. He was emotionally drained and critically depressed. Even if his head has been replaced with a metal one, he could still remember Allison...his parents...all the good memories they've shared. Mako's heart ached each time something memorable of him and Allison was brought up during training; because of this, his mind and his body often came out of synch, causing him to fail a task and earn him a shock. Speaking of shocks, it only made everything worse. It didn't help him at all. It de-motivated him instead. Basically, Makoce is now a shattered soul within a metal husk, and has to do whatever he is told to against his will. Mako couldn't die even if he wanted to. He was mostly robotic and the only way for him to "pass away" is if he loses his essence but not even that is enough to kill him. If the hard-drive with his soul and memories survive, he could easily be relocated into another body and start the torture process over again. The thought of this made Mako lose his mind and weep softly in his cell, alone, without the gentle embrace of Allison or his parents to comfort him.

__________

It was another day of training. Mako has been drastically improving in his combat skills lately. Mostly because this is the only thing he can and is allowed to do, so he doesn't fight against it. He's been shutting his thoughts down and just concentrating on the task at hand, which is what the scientists want and are pleased to receive from him at such an early stage of his development. Just as Mako was killing off stage 3 sentries, the shift of the door caught his attention. It was Lysander. The last person he wants to see. Mako didn't pay him any heed and continued to battle. Lysander, delighted at the change of his personality, watched as he swiftly moved on the training battlefield, destroying every sentry that was thrown at him.

"Stop the training, Rochelle. I think he's ready to start to learn on how to activate his hidden powers." Lysander commanded. The three looked at each other in confusion but Rochelle obeyed anyway. "What kind of powers is he talking about?" Holstein asked softly. Both shrugged in response. "I'm betting that it's Lysander's selfish doing." Skylar muttered, pressing her head against the glass to see what was happening down below.

Mako stood straight and didn't move any remaining muscle in his body. Lysander approached him and sighed before speaking. "You've come a long way, Mako. Your training will intensify until you are able to unleash your hidden powers...but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about." Lysander purred slyly. "Never." His robotic voice said. Ever since his transformation, he's getting better at controlling his body. "You're a stubborn one. Tch. It's not like you can activate it straight away anyway..." Lysander chuckled, highly amused that he's still willing to fight even if there's no light at the end of the tunnel for him. "Activate module and program 2." Lysander snarled.

The scientists were just as worried for Mako as they were of what might happen. Rochelle switched the previous module and program with number 2 as she was told without knowing what the program did. By the looks of it so far, this didn't look good.

▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓『CHAPTER 5』▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓▓

Subtle, small mentioning of murder.

Pain started to rush in his chest and it spread like a virus to all over his body. This new feeling caught him off guard and he screamed in agony. It felt like a million spears painfully puncturing every part of his body at once and he could feel every single vein in his body pulse and tense in ways he could've never imagined. What hurt the most was his head. It beat like wildfire and Mako was quickly knocked off his feet and groaning on the floor. His body heated up and the metal on his body was steaming. Mako felt his body shutting down but at the same time, his mind was awake. Each limb wouldn't budge and fell limp on the floor. Dying would be very ideal by now.

Lysander watched as the boy winced and whined in pain before him. The module was supposed to weaken his body and deactivate any possibility of him controlling it. Though, his mind was awake in order for him to cast any sort of magic. Lysander knew he wouldn't do it voluntarily, so he improvised. He was going to torture the ever living hell out of him and he will do whatever it takes to get Mako to use his abilities. Even if it means he has to break all laws of ethicality to get it. Without Allison alive to stop him, no one could get in the way. Both Lysander and Mako knew this all too well.

"Now Mako. Your training from now on will be critically intensified. Better get used to it." Lysander hissed before exiting the room.

Mako was sobbing internally as he was brutally beaten and harassed during training. He wasn't in control of himself but he could feel every cut and tear that laid on his body. Of course, his pleads of mercy couldn't be heard as he had no control of his voice box. He was trapped in a metal husk, feeling every hit he endured. Though, Mako didn't want to give up just yet. He didn't want Lysander to win and he knew that the world depended on him. What kept him going was him knowing that Allison was one of those people.

As the days and nights dragged on, Mako's body and programming got stronger and smarter. He fought like a champ, obliterating anything in his path. Lysander was very pleased with the results but was still yet to be satisfied with his mind. Mako's stubbornness caused Lysander to take it one step farther.

"Oh Mako..." He whispered out, approaching the body that stood proudly in the middle of the training deck. "Yes, sire?" Mako's programming replied. Lysander scoffed slightly and gestured the scientists to do something. Sounds echoed the room until Mako felt his mind and body coming back to him again. He stretched his limbs out, moved his head back and forth and wagged his tail for the first time in what seemed like forever. They had let go of the program that was controlling him temporarily just for this session. The excited feeling was short lived as Lysander coughed to get his attention.

"Now I want to make it clear that my intentions are good. Allison made it seem like it was horrible." Lysander chuckled. Mako frowned internally and stomped his front paw on the ground. "Your intentions are nothing but bad! You can't fool me, Lysander." He snarled, swishing his tail back and forth in an aggravated manner. Lysander shook his head and sat down. "And what is your proof?" He asked, leaning towards him. Mako stuttered and backed up a bit. Mako snarled in annoyance as he saw Lysander creep a mocking smile onto his face. "Well...Allison told me that I was just an experiment and that I was created just to be a weapon for you." Mako said, raising his voice in hopes of seeming confident and brave.

"That's what I thought you would say..." He snickered and backed up, scratching the fur on his chest. "Fun fact kiddo, there's a thing called framing, sabotaging and lying. Welcome to the real world."

Mako gasped softly when Lysander accused Allison for doing all those bad things "She would never lie or frame or sabotage! Knowing you, you're the one that's most likely to do that!" Mako screamed angrily, pushing Lysander's limits. He snarled loudly and slammed Mako onto the ground, pinning him down with great force. The two remained in that position for a while. Lysander breathing heavily, Mako wheezing underneath him and the scientists holding onto their seats. Lysander huffed out sternly, trying his hardest not to crush the small pup below him. Mako was admittedly, very afraid but, he kept his confident posture and showed no bodily signs of submission or fear.

Lysander sighed and got off of him. "Allison is siding with the Aliens." He calmly replied to his statement to continue after clearing his throat. "The Aliens are good." Mako huffed rudely in response. He would've folded back his ears by now if they had joints. "Do you have any proof of that?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.

Mako paused and rubbed the back of his neck, unsure. He shrugged a little and fondled with his tail. "Well..."

"The Aliens were the ones that killed your parents, right?" He said, standing up. "...Yeah but-" Mako managed to reply before Lysander interrupted.

"And what makes you think that they're good, hm? Because Allison told you?~" he mocked and started to circle Mako. "She's reliable!" Mako cried out, starting to lose his confidence.

"She didn't want you to have upgrades because she wanted the Aliens to win!"

"She just wanted to protect me...!" Mako whimpered and started to tear up.

"She said you would die after the surgery but look at you now! You're thriving!" He yelled.

"I-"

"She never wanted you to become a leader, dammit. She wanted you to become a sweet little angel and soon corrupt you into the Alien ways after the surgery was performed. Then, you'd train to become a killer and wipe out the Cyborg race. All the while you trust that Allison was right. You're too gullible, Mako. She was only nice to you to get to your head. Obviously, it worked." Lysander claims.

Mako was ecstatic. Everything seemed to align but he refused to believe him. "No..."

"Oh yes, Mako. What if I told you that...she was the one that killed your parents?" Lysander said in a soft, deep tone.

"That...doesn't seem likely."

"Foolish." Lysander shook his head and moved away from Mako, walking towards the door. "Follow me." He said after turning his head towards him and turning away right after. Mako was intrigued to know if this was true or not. He started to have doubts in Allison for the first time in his life.

The walk was quiet and it's been months since he's been outside of the training room. He dreaded walking back into Lysander's room but he enjoyed the walk while it lasted.

"It's time I show you something." Lysander groaned, stretching his body for a bit before he started to press some buttons on his laptop. The laptop projected a screen with black and white footage on it; from the looks of it, it might have been taken from a CCTV. The camera was facing a familiar hallway.

Nothing popped up on tape for a while until a figure's head was seen near the bottom of the screen. Upon closer observation, it was Allison. That fur...her ears. It was all too familiar. She wasn't walking like normal though. She seemed to be...dragging something...

Before Mako knew it, his love and trust for Allison dwindled as he saw his mother's lifeless body being dragged across the ground like a ragdoll. As Mako leaned in closer, he saw dark stains on her light fur; it was blood. The horror on his face when he saw the blade in the dragged body.

"Allison...couldn't have killed her...maybe she...she was.."

Lysander slammed his laptop shut, turning off the recording at the same time. "Stop denying the truth, Mako!" He yelled at the top of his lungs, practically crawling out of his seat and onto his desk to yell at Mako's face. Mako flinched in fear and whimpered. "I have video proof! I provided evidence! What more do you want?!" He continued with fury in his eyes, posture and tone. "She is a betrayer! She wants to kill us all! And she successfully killed your parents but yet here you are! still standing to trust a murderer?!" He hissed, calming down a little and sliding back into his seat. He rubbed his temple and covered his eyes with his paw, tired.

Mako couldn't speak. His voice was cracked and soft, hesitant. He would've been crying by now. "Mother..." Mako mumbled, lowering his head and body near to the floor. Lysander glanced over at the boy and frowned. He got off his seat and crawled over to him. "I know it's hard to take in..." he said sympathetically as he stroked the boy's back. "I know I'm...strict and...scary, one might say, but like I said, I have good intentions...and it's hard to remain nice and happy-go-lucky when the whole species depends on you." Lysander finished. Soft coughing and sniffling only came out of Mako in response. Once again, he felt extremely betrayed and this time it was from the only person he thought that he could trust.

"I'm sorry for using brute force on you. I...don't know what I was thinking. All the pain and...and suffering was the only way I thought of that could've gotten you to pay attention to my reasonings." He said, shifting away from Mako to give him space. He noticed guilt bubble in Lysander's stomach.

"H-how long h-has Allison been b-betraying us..?" Mako asked, changing the topic. His voice cracked in-between words as he tried to recover from the pain. He shrugged. "Probably her whole life. I only knew when the security found suspicious calls from her phone and documents in her room. There might be a small network of rebels in our ranks that we don't know about and I fear that we might lose this war that'll sweep away every single one of us." Lysander admitted in a sincere and truthful tone.

Mako gasped a little when he heard softness in Lysander's voice. This tone was new to both Lysander and Mako. Lysander has never been afraid of anything and seeing him frown with his normal, confident posture droop down into a fearful one was unusual. Mako's heart warmed up to Lysander. He thought: 'Just because he's big, loud, scary and aggressive doesn't mean he's all bad...' He's learned that now; after knowing the truth about Allison. "I guess I was blind..." Mako mumbled, grooming his tail with his paws. Lysander smiled a little. "It's fine...I didn't realize it either..." He said in response, grinning sheepishly.

Mako nodded slowly and looked out the window, looking at the pink clouds, no longer admiring their beauty. He held his paw to his chest and gripped it. "I am not fragile." Mako muttered softly to himself. All the bad thoughts about Lysander was wiped away. He stood up and took a deep breath. Mako's metal claws extended out and he stretched his muscles a bit. Mako looked over at Lysander with a mental smirk on his face.

"I can turn the tides of this battle."

-8 years later-

Dodging bullets was a breeze. I felt the wind rush between the metal on my body and the air as the bullets zoomed past me. "Gotta do better then that!" I yelled as I started to use my magic. A holographic, magical horn formed on my head as symbols and rings surrounded my body. I watched as each ring slammed itself on the ground, surrounding one or several sentries with the symbols doing the same. I roared and the rings did their glorious work, blowing each sentry up.

Sounds of metal pieces rattling on the floor was music to my ears. Dozens and dozens of sentries...destroyed! Broken to pieces! All at once. By yours truly,

Makoce Asidian.

The by-passers and audience clapped and cheered as I dusted off the scrap metal on my body. My job was easy. Kill anything and anyone that goes against our species. I have never failed a mission, and failing isn't a word in my book.

For weeks, I've been going on missions almost daily. Sometimes even twice a day. The Aliens has once thrived against us but now their numbers have dropped drastically. Of course, that's all my doing.

I bowed down a little and stood up. The loud sound of the bell meant that my training had ended but I had barely broken a sweat. Just as I was about to head out the door and to my room to rest, I spotted Lysander leaning against the frame of the entrance, smiling.

"Great work out there, Mako. You truly are a prize." He purred, swishing his tail back and forth in pleasure. "Thanks. That was nothing, though. Give me a real challenge and I might just impress everyone enough for them to vote me as chief." I teased, opening my jaw and sending a soft shock to Lysander. He hissed in pain and growled.

"Remember who you're talking to." He snarled in aggression, putting on his serious face and tone again. I huffed and lifted my head, rolling my eyes. "Yeah yeah, old man. I bet you can't even dodge two bullets." I mocked. I could feel Lysander feeling tense and angry. "You want a challenge? I'll give you one, boy." He yelled as he used his thick, powerful tail to slam me back into the arena. I was a little dazed from that hit but I got back on my feet rather quickly. The crowd watched in surprise to see Lysander on the field. Many started to gather and I felt a little pressurized.

"Wouldn't want to lose right now, Makoce. Your reputation might get soiled." Lysander spat as he paced in front of me. I gulped as I watched more people pour into the stands to watch this battle. I shook my head and stretched my claws out. "I accept your challenge, Lysander." I spat back in response, following in his moves. "You're cute." Lysander replied in a sarcastic tone as he lunged at me. I expected it, honestly, and dodged it, but what I didn't expect a tail slam straight in my face as I turned to attack him. I groaned as I stood up. My visor glitched for a little but even so, I successfully lunged myself at Lysander and made pretty nasty cuts on his arm. Now I've really awakened the beast.

We went back and forth lunging at, dodging and ramming into each other. Both Lysander and I had our different advantages and disadvantages. I was the more quiet, ninja that was quick on his feet but I wasn't the strongest person out there. Lysander focused more on strength, brutality, force and defense but in return, he's very slow-moving and non-agile. Our differences contrasted well in the battlefield and both of us were strong in our own sense and fields.

"Better catch up to me, old man! Oh wait, don't. You might break your back!" I laughed as I circled and dodged all his attacks. The more I mocked and joked, the angrier he got. This was one of his downfalls. Lysander tends to lose his temper easily and as a result, he loses focus on dodging, enabling me to go in for the kill. Just as I thought I had him, I activated my magic and the rings and symbols appeared. The rings repeatedly tried to get a hold of Lysander but he kept dodging. I got pretty upset at this and kept my focus on him and him alone, no longer trying to impress the crowd. I didn't want to embarrass myself in front of practically my whole species, but that saying was short lived as Lysander jumped over my head. Without thinking, I slammed the ring down while he jumped. Somehow, I missed and...the ring surrounded me and symbols appeared shortly after. Lysander panted as he looked back at the horror on my face. "Not so cocky now, huh?" Lysander stuttered in a tired tone. I felt the rings activate automatically as they did their job.

Oh god.

I sat in the infirmary, my body burnt to a crisp. I grumbled and groaned as I heard mumbles and whispers of the battle and how I lost miserably. I was laying on a metal table as the scientists worked on getting me new plated armor for the next mission. They were gonna update me anyway so they didn’t mind my old armor literally in pieces.

Lysander was at the seating area, surrounded by fans. My fans. I growled loudly at them to get their attention. That sure did it as they shuffled away in fear. Lysander looked over at me and made the most mocking smirk I've ever seen anyone make. "What? Jealous of me, Mako?" He snickered and walked over to me. I wish I could move to punch his face but the scientists had strapped me down onto this stupid table.

"I still can't believe that you used my own magic against me." I muttered out angrily. "Who asked you to not think ahead of time?" Lysander asked, sitting down in front of me. "Don't pour salt in the wound." I groaned out in pain as I felt the new parts being drilled onto me. "You're the one that started it." Lysander huffed. I shook my head and rolled my eyes, looking away from the man. He scoffed and told something to a scientist and then walked out.

Hours pass and I'm finally let out of the lab. I was sent straight into my room to rest and I was told that I'd have to wait till’ tomorrow to test out my sweet new armor and weapons. Resting myself against the soft fabric, I felt at ease as my body relaxed in the cold atmosphere of the room. I laid motionless there for a bit, appreciating the calming feeling, until I got up when I heard a noise. My room was decked out and sound proofed to the maximum. Hearing a sound, especially if it sounded like it was from outside, was highly concerning. I looked around and scanned the room with my visor.  Nothing seemed off. The noises just kept going and now it sounded more like distorted speech than just things being toppled over.

“Whose there? Show yourself...” I snarled, clawing the floor and activating my shoulder turrets. Suddenly, the wicked and husky-toned voice went static and soon enough, was gone...

I waited for a little longer in the silence, looking around and turning my head at the slightest breeze. I deactivated my turrets when I concluded the coast was clear. “Tch...must’ve scared them off.” I scoffed and made my way back to my bed to rest.

For the next weeks or so, this went on, and boy was I annoyed. The noise just kept coming back and I came to the point where I called security for help. They too heard the static and noises but couldn’t find who was the source. Lysander, of course, knew about this too and was concerned for me. Who knows, it might be an Alien somehow hacking into the system. Others in the area were equally as scared with this news, but Lysander told them to stand tall and brave so that the enemy wouldn’t get to their heads. Even with the scary mystery at hand, I continued my duties as usual...though...something felt off. Not only I was thinking more in battle, I kept seeing a shadowy, ghostly figure in the corner of my eye as I dodged attacks or did the attacking. This lead to some mishaps in the fights and people made clear notice of that. Some questioned while others talked behind my back. ‘Was I getting worse?’ I thought, running a paw through my tail as I sat in the training facility, resting. ‘No.’ I replied to myself, shaking my head. “I should probably get my head checked out. The hit from Lysander’s tail probably distorted it.” I said out loud. Of course, I meant to say it to just myself but it so happened that Holstein came up to check on me.

“Heard about the issue. You mentioned that you wanted your head checked out? Well that’s exactly why I came here.” He said. I stared at him and looked around and back at him. “How long have you been in here?” I asked, confused on how he could sneak up on me like that. Usually I’d be able to sense people that are nearby. Holstein only shrugged. “I’m always here...I take care of the lab...all of the time. I thought you knew but then again, you’re always so cooped up on training you barely realize that there’s a crowd.” He laughed and smiled sweetly. “Come alone now, Mako. They’re waiting for you.” Holstein said as he walked off ahead of me. I only followed after I had finished cleaning myself off.

Each test was a fail. They couldn’t find what was wrong with me. I kept insisting that it was a mechanical failure but everything seemed to be fine. “There’s nothing else we can do, Makoce.” Rochelle sighed in frustration as she crossed out the last test option. I sat up and huffed. “Then I have to live and battle with this ghost distorting my visor?!” I snapped, snarling at the sleek, stern scientist. She didn’t even flinch or move a muscle. “What else do you recommend then, Makoce?” Rochelle replied, breathing out a hint of sarcasm. I rolled my eyes at her and shook my head. “Calm down kid. We’re trying whatever we can do.” Skylar scoffed as she walked past both Rochelle and I with a bunch of devices and gadgets on her back. “I have a meeting soon and I’m going on a mission first thing tomorrow. I can’t battle like this.” I growled as I stood up and started to pace the room in an impatient manner.

“Perhaps the issue isn’t your visor but in the area?” Holstein asked. Rochelle, Skylar and I all paused and looked at each other in confusion. “That’s ridiculous.” I replied hastily. “For once, I agree with the boy.” Rochelle continued. “Aren’t ghosts an Alien legend?” Skylar asked, tilting her head to the side. “...Moving on...” Holstein mumbled and looked away with his ears folded back and head lowered. The three scientists were all probably tired of me for different reasons but I had good reason to be worried. This small issue could snowball into a bigger one.

The meeting went on as usual but my problem still remained. I was disturbed the whole duration of the discussion until Lysander turned to me and coughed. “Huh?” I muttered, snapping out of my short daze. “As I was saying...” Lysander looked away and to the others. I stretched my body as I perked my head up to listen to Lysander. “The drones found out where the Aliens hid all sorts of drafts and sketches of their weaponry. Once we get a hold of that information, our understanding of their attack plans will pillar to greater heights, enabling us to easily avoid whatever they throw at us.” Lysander finished. “Makoce will be joining all of you today. He will lead the team and ensure everyone makes it out alive. I expect full respect and trust on Makoce.” Lysander snarled before stepping aside for me to take control of the meeting. I stood up and looked around. There I saw familiar faces. Kareen, Shay, Bryce, Thresh....I was glad to know that some trustworthy friends of mine will be joining me in this mission.

“Thank you, Lysander. The mission should be simple and easy. There aren’t any security cameras or heavily guarded doors in that area. Even so, I have studied the base from top to bottom with great precision and I have made many strategies and plans on how to get in and get out without any sort of complications.” I spoke up. The people in the room clapped and talked for a little until I heard one voice stand out from the others.

“Don’t speak so formally, Mak. Might hurt yourself by using your whole vocabulary in one passage.” A man mocked in a snarky tone. turned my head to look at the person and it turns out that the words came out from none other than Xavier Syullivan. Lysander’s son.

“Be respectful, Xavier.” Lysander hissed in an annoyed tone. Xavier rolled his eyes and leaned against the table with his head resting on the sole of his front paw. Xavier was my friend, yeah, but he loved to embarrass and mock me in front of several people at once. He had a sleek body type with sharp features, rather tall too. His fur was darkish-grey with orange and blue as the contrasting colors. Xavier is considered handsome but he was the type of guy that didn’t take things very seriously. He’s a fun guy to hang around but not so much to fight with. I sighed and continued with my speech.

The mission was a go at the crack of dawn. My team and I rode in an aircraft for most of the journey and went on foot for the remaining.

A large tree-like structure stood tall and proud in the middle of the forest. Said tree was the base and we crawled nearer to it, keeping our cover by crouching behind or inside bushes nearby. Our mission was to retrieve data without being noticed so attacking the guards wouldn’t be ideal. Speak of the devil, Xavier leaped out to the guards guarding the front door, giving himself away. I shook my head and changed the plans. We were going to have to eliminate them instead.

More guards came rushing in when they heard shrieking and yelling. Everyone in the team was decently trained and could hold themselves off. I gestured them to cover for me as I ran inside to get the data. Oddly, none came after me.

The hallway was quite dimly lit. I wandered the hallways in a fast pace so I could return to help my team. I turned a sharp corner but I instantly stopped in my tracks and stood still like a stone.

There, at the end of the dark hallway was the same ghostly figure that has been around me for months. It was distorted and kept fading in and out. Not only did I sense it, but probably hundreds of others just like it as well in the area. I wanted to move, but I couldn’t when I stared right into its lifeless eyes. It had me locked onto it and I tried to break free when I realized that my energy belt was being unbuckled and slipped off. Without my belt, my Cyborg parts didn’t have energy to move and soon enough, I fell to the floor with my mechanical parts shutting down. My mind wasn’t connected to it though, so I could think, sense and hear still. What I couldn’t do was see, move, use most of my body and contact headquarters to send a distress call. I heard my team’s voices going down one by one and I flinched at every cry and yell of pain that came out from them.

Makoce felt a strange aura surround his body and he was knocked out in the blink of an eye.
