Cats talking wrote:“This apprentice seems to know of Creampaw’s disapearense!” Oakstar announced, so loudly that the apprentice cowered.
“What do you know?” Flameleaf asked eagerly.
“C-Creampaw is somewhere within Oakclan’s borders! With... Ashcloud!” the apprentice said timidly.
“Ashcloud! Where are you?!” Oakstar shouted. Ashcloud stepped up. “Oak, I swear I didn't do it.“
But the look on Ashcloud’s face was enough. “We shall speak about this later, ASHcloud.”

My clan used up 3 servings. Duskclaw went on a hunting patrol. Flameleaf went searching for herbs. Stormclaw, Clawflight and the apprentice went on a patrol. Oakclaw (and Ashcloud) went on a hunting patrol. Nobody stayed back. (OoC: @Krazy, Whoops I guess I wasn't really clear. I meant that, Oof it's been a while. I wasn't upset. Boii i feel ba-a-ad now! Lol And I'm assuming I get to keep the apprentice now?)

Sweetstar grinned as the new apprentice began to pepper his mentor with questions as soon as he emerged from his den, “Dancingstripe, Flarepaw, come here.” He called. The younger toms glanced over at him, then Dancingstripe lead the way over.

“What’s up Sweetstar?” The former loner asked, his head cocked slightly to one side as he spoke. His flame colored apprentice shifted impatiently beside him.

“I was wondering if you and Flarepaw would mind accompanying me as I patrol the borders?” Sweetstar asked, “It would be good for Flarepaw to get a general idea of where the boundaries are.”

Dancingstripe nodded in agreement, “You’re right Sweetstar. I didn’t have anything in particular to do today, so we’ll be glad to come.”

Maplestrike had grown bored, meandering around camp all morning. He glanced around and spotted Hailclaw and Mottledleap talking in a corner. Approaching them, he cleared his throat politely, “Morning ladies.” he said, offering a charming smile, “Would either of you be interested in a quick hunt?”

Hailstrike smiled back at him while Mottledleap simply nodded, “I think some hunting would be just the thing, don’t you Mottledleap?”

Mottledleap shrugged indifferently, “Why not?” she agreed.

Whisperdust purred happily as she cared for her three new kits, chatting with Snowflight as she did so. “Yea, it was crazy. I saw him a few times after that, but his two-legs were trying to keep him indoors. Then one day I came to check on him, to tell him that I was pregnant, and the entire house was empty. No two-legs, no dog, no Torrence.”

“That’s terrible!” Snowflight exclaimed, shaking her head, “Did you ever find out where he went?”

Their conversation was interrupted by Velvetflicker slipping into the den, “Afternoon ladies!” she said cheerily, “How is everyone doing today?”

A chorus of “Perfect,” “Lovely,” and “Afternoon, Velvetflicker,” greeted her as she padded over to the new kits, “Look at you,” she cooed, “Big strong kits already.” Velvetflicker glanced up at Whisperdust, “Have you named them yet?”

Whisperdust nodded, smiling proudly, “I have. The first born is Bubblekit, the middle kit is Cinderkit, and the youngest is Breezekit.”

“Such lovely names!” Velvetflicker purred, “I see you decided to use my suggestion of Breezekit.”

Whicperdust nodded, “I did.” she agreed, “Snowflight named Bubblekit, and Wrenface named Cinderkit.”

Velvetflicker nodded, smiling, “Speaking of Wrenface, how are you doing? You are due to kit soon, aren’t you?”

“Any day now.” Wrenface agreed, her voice a little tight.

Velvetflicker frowned, padding over and gently laying a paw on Wrenface’s side, “Hmm. Are you in any pain Wrenface?” she asked, gently.

“A little.” the molly agreed, wincing slightly.

“Hmm. Let me just run get some herbs. If you other ladies don’t mind, could you tidy this place up a bit? Maybe move the kits a little further away, just so that there isn’t anything to worry about when Wrenface kits.”

The other two mollies sprang up and busily began to clear the area, preparing for the arrival of new clan members.

one moon ago
after rowanclaw and maplestar had announced their exciting the news, the clan parted ways for the day. maplestar went solo hunting to calm her nerves. snowshoe took dawnpaw to the field east of camp to train, and dawnpaw was able to master her hunters crouch. rowanclaw went on his own to do a quick border check. he was met by a large, brown tabby tom with a threatening appearance. the loner seemed to have just been waiting on the border for someone to come along. rowanclaw stood up straight and took a deep breath before approaching the stranger. "ah, yes, I was wondering when one of you would finally show up." the tom spoke before rowanclaw had a chance. his eyes seemed to pierce into rowanclaw, making him feel uneasy. "name and business please?" rowanclaw asked, trying to make his voice as monotone as possible. the tom simply smiled at him "you clan cats are always so formal. alright, alright." he laughed with a shake of his head "my name is mud, yes it's a weird name I know but my dear old mother blessed me with it. anyway, my business? I've heard a lot about this new clan from the other loners.. even the kittypets are talking about you. so naturally, I was interested." mud paused, studying rowanclaw for a moment, as if waiting for the other tom to react. "if my point wasn't obvious, I'd like to join your clan." the large cat continued and rolled his eyes jokingly, "I'm not much of a fighter I admit, but I do know quite a bit about medicine. my mother taught me all about the different herbs and what they can treat, she was a.. what do you call them? ah- a medicine cat yes, she was a medicine cat before." mud continued, hoping to impress the clan cat. rowanclaw was quiet for a moment, something about mud seemed off, but the clan did need a medicine cat. giving in, rowanclaw nodded "alright.. follow me. I'll take you to maplestar and she will judge whether or not you will be a good fit for autumnclan.." he mumbled, motioning mud to walk forward. he was not about to let this stranger be behind him, he could potentially attack.
the two walked in silence to the camp. when they arrived, they were seemingly the only two there. "maplestar must still be out hunting.. we will wait by her den until she returns." rowanclaw said, clearing his throat. it seemed like forever until maplestar returned, dropping her prey in the fresh kill pile.rowanclaw.. who is this new face you've brought into camp?" she asked, looking mud up and down. mud sat up straight and bowed his head "greetings! you must be maplestar... my name is mud." the tabby introduced himself, offering the leader a charming smile. maplestar looked from rowanclaw to mud "mud.. yes, well welcome to autumnclan. what is it we can do for you?" maplestar asked, sitting down. "well.. I'd like to join your clan.. as I've told your companion rowanclaw here, I've heard a lot about it.." he went on to say the same little speech he gave rowanclaw.
maplestar was quiet, in thought. "alright mud, I'll allow you to stay for now. if you show that you can be of value to this clan, and if starclan approves, you may stay."

present time
maplestar had woken up to her stomach feeling queasy. was she getting sick? the auburn colored cat pushed herself to her paws and made her way into the medicine cat den. "mudslide.. a-are you awake?" the she-cat called softly, her voice tired and strained. a big yawn sounded from the back right side of the den and a pair of bright golden eyes could be seen in the dark. "if I wasn't before I am now.. what can I do for you darling?" the new medicine cat asked, stretching before walking over to the she-cat. "I woke up feeling nauseous and like I was going to vomit, I think I'm getting sick." maplestar groaned, sitting down with a huff. mudslide nodded and did a quickly circle around the she-cat, checking for symptoms of illness and quizzing her about other problems she was having. the tabby sat down, facing maplestar and was quiet for a moment before breaking out into a smile and laughing. maplestar's eyes widened in surprise "w-what? why are you? what's wrong?" she asked, narrowing her eyes suspiciously. mudslide shook his head and continued to smile "my dear maplestar you are certainly not sick." he began. maplestar shuffled in her spot "well what's wrong with me then?" she asked, alarmed. the medicine cat gently placed his tail on her shoulder "you're expecting kits darling." he responded softly. maplestar sat, shocked and speechless for a few heartbeats before breaking into a big smile. "I.. I'm...I'm going to.. I'm a mother?" she stammered, getting to her paws quickly, "I need to tell rowanclaw! I- wait.. I'm the leader.. what if.. w-what.. am I allowed to?" she began, panicking slightly. mudslide quickly hushed her "starclan knew you were expecting the last time they visited you and told you they approved of me, if they objected they would've said something then.. yes?" the tabby calmed her. "as for being leader, that just means you'll have to sit back and relax a bit more.. let all of us do the heavy lifting alright?" maplestar agreed and thanked mudslide before running off to find rowanclaw. she was at first nervous to announce her new news to him, but after seeing the joy on his face, her worries washed away instantly. the clan really was growing, and becoming greater every day.

The scent of dog was thick in the air. They were very, very close. "We need to get out of here already!" Falconchaser hissed under his breath to the rest of the patrol. "No, we need to find out how many there are so we know how many cats to bring to chase them out," growled Patchthorn as he silently crept forward, peeking through the bushes at the horrid creatures. "One of you brown tabbies sneak closer to get a better look. The dogs would surely see myself, Dewfang, and Junipertail." Falconchaser noticeably gulped, eyeing the dogs nervously. "I'll do it," Ivytuft offered. At a nod from Patchthorn, she slowly stepped out from the behind the cluster of bushes that the six cats were hiding behind, crouched so that her belly brushed the ground. Then she froze and observed the scene. After a few moments, a sigh came from the older tom, "Well?" "I can see three... but there might be another one behind a tree," the tabby relayed. "That's good enough. Let's go." On the way back to camp, Dewfang's mind was whirling with ideas. Plots, to describe them more accurately. He knew Frigidrose would be delighted to find out that there were dogs in the territory. But if someone told Emberstar, which was the likely thing to happen, a patrol would be sent out to chase them away, and that wouldn't be good. "Patchthorn," he piped up suddenly. "That was a long patrol. And you all are going to need some rest and time to eat before you set out again. I'll be fine going without food - I'll inform Emberstar or Frigidrose of the dogs." Dewfang stared at the senior warrior, anxiously waiting for him to give his permission. "Yes, yes, that'll be fine," the black-and-white tom drawled. Dewfang breathed a barely audibly sigh of relief, noticing for the first time how hard his heart was pounding against his ribcage. Oh no.... And there was that feeling again - that same feeling of queasiness, dizziness, and being out of control that he had had before he pushed his mother into the raging river. No, he had to ignore it.

The sun beat down on the camp relentlessly. Sunhigh patrols were supposed to set out soon, but everyone kept trying to prolong it until a later, cooler time. But the fur along Frigidrose's spine was flat and smooth, not rising in anger with her Clan-mates. The situation was just what she needed. She quickly began to concoct a plot in her head. Patrols had to be sent out, whether they liked it or not. Perhaps their beloved Emberstar could talk some sense into them. Even if she was still recovering from her sickness and unable to join the patrol, she might be able to convince some cats to go. Yes, that would get her to leave the camp for certain. "Emberstar?" the deputy purred, standing just outside the den. When the leader called for her to enter, Frigidrose calmly took a seat in front of the spotted tabby. "I trust you're feeling better?" "Yes, yes, of course," Emberstar meowed, a hint of irritation in her voice. "Why do you ask? What's the matter?" The silver she-cat allowed herself a slight sigh before she replied, "The Clan is reluctant to set out on sunhigh patrols due to the heat. Ridiculous, isn't it? I was hoping you could encourage them somehow?.." Emberstar jumped to her paws, shock clear on her face. "They call themselves warriors, and yet they're too afraid of patrolling on a hot day!" she spat in disgust. "I will lead the patrol myself - someone needs to set a proper example for them." She hurried out of the den. A small smile slowly grew on Frigidrose's face. Oh, everything was falling into place just perfectly. No one but her and the members of the dawn patrol had any knowledge of the dogs in the territory.

"Dustfall, Honeydapple, Pinedust, and Tansypatch!" Emberstar yowled as soon as she stepped out of her den. The four cats, who were sitting in the shade, chatting, froze and stared at the leader as she hurried toward them. "You four are coming with me." Low mumbles of 'Yes, Emberstar,' were heard as the warriors followed her out of the camp, heads down in shame, though they knew not what they had done wrong. Quickly Dewfang slipped out of the entrance and trotted to catch up with them. "Emberstar," he called, "You don't have a full patrol. May I join?" "Yes, you may. Hurry up." Frigidrose had told him to join the patrol at all costs so that he could lead them to the dogs. He was so, so nervous. That certain feeling wouldn't leave him alone, and he felt as if he would vomit at any moment. His stomach kept twisting and churning, his head spinning, but he had to ignore it. He had no choice, he thought.

Emberstar paid no attention to Honeydapple when she mentioned scenting something funny. "There's nothing," she meowed coldly. The truth was, her nose was functioning properly after her sickness, and after hearing her response to the cream tabby, no one in the patrol dared second Honeydapple's statement. "I don't know what's the matter with some of you, fretting about everything," the leader muttered. "How often is it that a patrol encounters something dangerous?" Dewfang glanced in Honeydapple's direction to find her glaring at Emberstar's back, and quickly he looked away. The scent was stronger now, and then suddenly he thought he saw something move in the trees to the left. The young tom slowed to a stop, mewing uncertainly, "Uh... I swear I just saw something...." Emberstar sighed noisily and growled, "I assure you, it is nothing. You need to stop -" A thunderous commotion surged from the bushes as four large, muscular dogs - more accurately described as beasts - attacked. Immediately Dewfang fled the scene as fast as his paws could carry him, glad to not hear any heavy sets of paws chasing after him. What he did hear that was more terrifying was the shrill screaming of his Clan-mates. Oh StarClan, what was he doing? He couldn't look back, he had to get to camp. The leader fought almost blindly though her eyes were wide open. She couldn't process what was happening. Leaping onto the back of one of the creatures, she dug her claws and teeth deep into the flesh. The dog yelped wildly, jumped around, tried to shake her off, but she held fast. Then unfortunately for Emberstar, it fell onto its back, and with doing so crushed her. It quickly leapt off to attack another cat, but the leader lay on the ground, swiftly losing unconsciousness. She struggled to keep her eyes open. She had to - she had to help her Clan-mates, they needed her. A feeling of helplessness settled in. Then everything was black.

A shriek ripped through the air. Daisyskip stared at her mother's broken body as it was brought into the camp. The young queen could hardly move. Hurriedly Crowstorm corraled the kits into the nursery, and sat in the entrance to block them from seeing the devastating scene in the middle of the camp. Two bodies - Honeydapple and Dustfall - were limp, and Pinedust and Tansypatch suffered serious injuries. Emberstar was just barely awake. She had been unconscious just moments before when she was carried into the camp, and several cats thought she was dead. Apparently she still had one last life left. But the loss of Honeydapple seemed to be the hardest. Daisyskip had now buried her head in her mother's fur, sobbing, choking out in a quiet voice, "Oh mom... Mom, why?.. Why did you have to go?" Foxpounce and Birchwing sat on either side of the sister, staring misty-eyed at the bloodied cream tabby whom the whole Clan had loved and cherished. LeafClan was going to be so different without her. As Crowstorm finally left the nursery to join his mate in mourning, Tawnykit ventured out. "Tawnykit!" Sootpaw exclaimed in a hushed voice, hurrying toward his adopted sister. "You shouldn't be out here -" "She's my grandma, too," the ginger tabby mewed in a steady voice. Sootpaw stood there for a moment, trying to decide what would be best to do.... "Yes, you're right.... Come sit with Lightpaw and me." The two quietly padded to where their brother was sitting - a corner of the camp where they likely wouldn't be noticed. Tawnykit soon found Honeydapple's body, the beautiful pelt she had always associated with kindness and good times. But those gorgeous dark blue eyes were closed. Those eyes that always seemed to be smiling. "Why did she have to go?" the she-kit whimpered, blinking away the tears that were welling in her eyes. "Well... it's just StarClan's will. And that's who she's with now - StarClan. She's watching over us," Sootpaw explained gently. Tawnykit continued to stare at the scene in front of her, she couldn't look away. "She wasn't supposed to go..."

Amberstar and Embersong looked at the young she-cat, she was a calico with light pale green eyes, she was trembling, clearly scared of them.. she tried tossing the mud at them as defense, Amberstar hissed once the mud met with his fur and wiped it off with a front paw in anger. He turned to the young cat with an angry glare before Embersong jumped between them, "I'll handle this, just calm down while I do the talking" she grinned, Amberstar nodded and sat down, letting out his anger. Embersong looked back to the young cat, "Hello there..." she softly mewled, the she-cat just stood in fear.. her fur was soggy and covered in mud, barely showing her beautiful, calico coat. "I-I'm sorry I did that, I don't know what I was thinking!" she meowed, "h-hey its all good1 Amberstar just really gets angered easily, but I'm sure he'll like you!" Embersong assured her, Amberstar stepped up to her. "Apology accepted, I can see your scared.. we heard your little chat with yourself" Amberstar mewed with a smile. "Y-yeah, a mean old tom chased me and my brother away from mama!" she pouted. "Well, if you want you can join Badgerclan, we promise to look after you even after you grow old" he offered, the she-cat's eyes lit up with excitement. "R-really?! Mama told us about clans. They are filled with cats and there are 3 high ranks" she responded. "You seem to know a lot about clans.' Embersong chuckled, the she-cat looked at her paws with embarrassment. "Y-yeah.. I'm really interested in a lot of stuff.." she said. "Maybe you could assist our medicine cat as an apprentice?" Amberstar asked, "Of course! Fighting isn't really my thing anyway.." she grinned, Embersong turned and flicked her tail, signaling Amberstar and the young cat to follow her, "I'm Lexi by the way!" she grinned, once they returned to camp Wolfmoon had left, "Oh that's Wolfmoon, he'll be your mentor!" Embersong whispered into Lexi's ear. "He looks angry.." she mewed, "Well that's Wolfmoon for ya" Amberstar chuckled.
One moon later..
The sun shone brightly on Badgerclan's camp.. The new cat of the clan, Hollypaw, formerly known as Lexi had become Wolfmoon's apprentice, at first she was quite frightened of the tom.. He always bossed her around, complaining over the smallest things, and even throwing tantrums infront of the young cat, during the 1 moon they had known each other he had gotten used to the shy, friendly apprentice's company, and opened up to her about his troubled past, she always seemed to listen to him, maybe it was cause of her fear he would snap at her if she didn't, or her interest in his words, he was thankful either way.. soon it got to the point he never seemed to yell at her, Hollypaw had met each cat in the clan, even Featherflower, once Featherflower heard of Hollypaw loosing her mother and sibling to a bully cat she acted like a mother to Hollypaw, whenever Hollypaw visited her with Wolfmoon to check on how she was doing with her kits, she'd ask all about Hollypaw's life in the clan and how it was with Wolfmoon. As Hollypaw awoke from the warmth of her moss bed in the medicine cat den she noticed Wolfmoon still asleep, it wasn't time for most of the cats to wake up so she didn't bother with annoying the grumpy cat. She stretched out her pelt and left the den, the only other cat awake was the first warrior of the clan, Windflight! She happily padded over to the she-cat, "you haven't woken up early ever sine I met you!" Hollypaw chuckled, "Heh.. Well I guess after living with Amberstar you get used to him waking you up.. so I woke myself up today so I wouldn't have his voice ringing in my ear" smiled Windflight.. the rest of the day Hollypaw had been talking with Eaglewing, she liked how friendly the tom was, and was glad Amberstar chose such a great deputy. Suddenly a loud yowl filled the camp, Hollypaw jumped up, Eaglewing turning his attention to where the sound had come from. Wolfmoon was out of his den rushing to the nursery where Featherflower was, already knowing she was kitting he had herbs in his jaws, Hollypaw rushed to him into the den, Amberstar, Embersong, and Windflight surrounding the nursery.. no cat dared to leave camp, Hollypaw was worried for Featherflower, every time Featherflower yowled in Hollypaw's head she just kept yowling with her, she couldn't loose Featherflower.. she was like a fill in mother till she found her own.. Windflight became so stressed out she had left the clan to go hunt, trying to get her mind off of things

Sweetstar rose to his hind legs for a brief moment before dropping. "Good eyesight," he said approvingly. "I don't believe that's a Leafclan cat." Indeed it wasn't; rather, a tortoiseshell was walking towards them, swaying as though tired.

"Can I help?" asked Flarepaw, looking to his mentor for approval. Dancingstripe nodded and the apprentice crossed the border to assist the stranger over to the small patrol.

"Thank you," gasped the tortoiseshell. "I haven't..." Before they could get another word out, the tired cat dropped to the ground, fast asleep.

Sweetstar sighed. "Alright. Dancingstripe, help me carry them back to camp. Flarepaw, go alert Velvetflicker that this cat might need some herbs."

Without another word, Flarepaw dashed off and the two grown toms slowly carried the tortoiseshell back to camp.

"Now," said Maplestrike in a hushed voice, "I will rush at the rabbit from the front, while you two ladies go from the sides." Hailclaw and Mottledleap flicked their ears and tails, indicating that they had heard and understood. "Go."

The chase lasted less than three minutes, and the three hunters caught the rabbit quickly. The poor thing had panicked and run in a straight line until Maplestrike had almost caught up to it. When the rabbit had turned, it ran straight into Mottledleap's claws and a quick bite had dispatched it. Victorious, Maplestrike, Hailclaw, and Mottledleap came back into camp, carrying their prey.

Velvetflicker watched Wrenface, mildly concerned. "Don't worry," he said, projecting confidence into his voice, "I'm sure that your kits will turn out well." Wrenface didn't reply, groaning instead. Thankfully, the birth was quick and clean, with three healthy kittens being born. When Velvetflicker left the nursery, Wrenface's kits suckled and the exhausted molly slept.

"How is she?" asked Whisperdust in a quiet voice, startling the medicine cat.

"Oh, she's alright," he said. "How are yours?" Velvetflicker smiled as he looked down at Whisperdust's three kits. He rather liked Breezekit although was glad that she too, slept. It wouldn't do to disturb Wrenface.

"Just perfect. Too bad Torrence isn't here to see them."

Snowflight chuckled. "I bet he'd be proud." Velvetflicker nodded in agreement.

Sweetstar looked nervously at the prey pile, which was a little to small for his comfort. “Maplestrike!” He yowled, looking around for his deputy. The ginger tom’s head appeared from the nursery, carefully stepping over a very curious, and very uncoordinated, Bubblekit.

“Yes Sweetstar?” he said, trotting over, his tail twitching nervously.

“The prey pile seems to be emptying as fast as we can fill it. I want to groups to go out hunting today. You will lead one, hunt along the LeafClan border. There was an abundance of prey there last time I checked. I will lead the other and hunt along the CloudClan border. Who would you like to take with you?”

Maplestrike’s tail swished as he considered, looking around at his clanmates, “I think that Swayingtrees, Dancingstripe and Flarepaw would make a good team.” he suggested.

“Excellent. And I will take Hailclaw and Mottledleap. We’ll leave now, you can head out in a few minutes.” Sweetstar began to turn away, then paused, “You’re worried about Snowflight, aren’t you?” he asked gently.

Maplestrike nodded, his gesture tense, “Yes. Whisperdust and Wrenface had relatively normal litters, but Velvetflicker thinks that either Snowflight has large kits, or a large litter. Both of those can be dangerous for the kits and the mother. I just…I don’t know. There’s nothing I can do to help her. Velvetflicker is the only one who can do that right now. She thinks that Snowflight will kit anytime now. And I want to be there for it. But at the same time, I’m afraid to.”

Sweetstar smiled gently, “Maplestrike, You’ve known Velvetflicker longer than any of us. Do you trust her?”

“With my life.” Maplestrike responded immediately. “There is no cat I trust more anywhere in the world.”

“Then trust her with Snowflight’s life, and the lives of your kits.” Sweetstar said firmly, “She knows what she is doing. She was trained by one of the best. If anyone can make sure that everything goes smoothly, it’s Velvetflicker. And you know it.”

Maplestrike sighed, and you could practically see the tension draining out of him as he smiled up at his leader. “Thank you, Sweetstar.” he said earnestly, “And thank you for giving me something to do. It will help take my mind off of it.”

Sweetstar smiled mysteriously, “Why do you think I did it?” he asked, before turning and calling Hailclaw and Mottledleap to him.

Maplestrike grinned, shaking his head in wonder as his leader dissapeared into the grass. “How does he do it?” He wondered, shaking his head as he looked around for Swayingtrees, Dancingstripe and Flarepaw.

Snowflight hummed happily as she trotted around the nursery, nosing away any loose sticks and stones, which always seemed to find their way in. Carefully stepping over a cautiously explorative Breezekit, she shoved the last pile out, adding to the collection she had already removed.

“You really should rest Snowflight.” Whisperdust said, worriedly, “You know that Velvetflicker said not to stress yourself. For the kits safety.”

“Oh, this isn’t stressful.” Snowflight responded dismissively. Nonetheless, she returned to her nest, which the other queens had helped her prepare several days before. “Now if I was trying to join Maplestrike’s hunting patrol, I think that Velvetflicker would have my head.”

“Indeed I would.” the molly said, stepping into the den with a mock furious expression on her face, “What did I tell you about strenuous activity?”

Snowflight laughed, shaking her head, “I’m not Velvetflicker, don’t worry. I’m staying right here, so you can keep an eye on me.”

“Good.” the medicine cat said, dropping her pretense of anger, “And how is everyone else today? No other rebellious queens in her I hope?”

“No ma’am.” Whisperdust chuckled, collecting Bubblekit and setting him next to his sisters, who were now contentedly sleeping. Bubblekit mewed in protest, but soon settled down.

“Lovely, lovely.” Velvetflicker said, padding over to check on Wrenface’s kits, “And how is Mothkit today? No more shivering?”

“None.” Wrenface said, proudly, “I think that she’s catching up to her siblings now. I’d swear on my life that she’s heaver today than she was yesterday.”

“Perfect.” Velvetflicker said, beaming, “You just keep doing whatever your doing, and you shouldn’t have any problems.”

Wrenface nodded, nosing Muddykit a little closer to her as Velvetflicker turned to Snowflight. She gently laid a paw on her side, and frowned, “Snowflight, how long have you been having contractions?”

The queen shrugged, “A long time now, but they haven’t been unbearable, so I ignored them.”

Velvetflicker sighed, shaking her head in despair, “I’ll be right back. Let me get some herbs. Whisperdust, Wrenface, don’t let her leave. She should start kitting any moment now.”
