It had come down to a vote once more. The clan was somewhat split, and Otterstar noticed that many did not even vote. Some eyes darted to Acornfoot, who looked down at his paws awkwardly. An even larger number looked to Blastclaws, who watched with hurt in his eyes. His clan would betray him?
As the clan calmed down, Otterstar stood to her paws.
"Although it hurts me greatly, our clan has come to a decision." Her voice broke as she looked to her mate, who felt his heart break. Dewpaw wanted to stand and defend her father, but she knew she couldn't. "Blastclaws, you have been exiled from Riverclan. If anyone sees you on our territory again," her voice began to waver "we will attack on sight."
Blastclaws got to his paws, the fierce glares coming from all directions except from Otterstar.
"I understand." And with that, he was gone.
With the loss of their Deputy, Otterstar called Newtnose and Palepaw forward. "Newtnose," She mewed, her eyes still clouded with sadness. "Because of your strength and your skills in hunting, I ask Starclan to accept you as the new deputy of Riverclan. Do you accept this role?"
"I do, Otterstar."
"Palepaw, Newtnose tells of your ability in battle and your ease in hunting. I name you Palesnow, for your pelt and for your respect towards our clan. May starclan forever light your path."
You have lost an innocent warrior Riverclan! Will you be able to catch the murderer, or will they strike again?

It was a cold night, colder than the ones before. Snow was falling from the sky, covering the clan in a blanket that kept growing. The night was quiet, the distant sound of an owl being the only noise that reached Firefeather's ears. He breathed out a long breath, his paws aching from the cold snow beneath them. He had lost almost his entire family, and the numbness had started setting in ever since he found his past mate and kit...dead. A shiver ran through him, the cold making his teeth jitter. Everything ached, but he continued to walk. Eventually, he collapsed beneath a tree and began to sob. The sound of quick paw steps coming in his direction made him stop his sobs, and he quickly sat up. Acornfoot approached, sliding to a halt in front of Firefeather.
"Are you okay? I saw your nest empty and I thought- that maybe you-" He took in a deep breath, shivering from both anxiety and the cold. Firefeather attempted to stand to comfort his friend, but his paws felt too weak. Acornfoot noticed his distress, and quickly sat next to him to attempt to warm him up.
"We should go back to camp. It's getting really cold out here." Acornfoot flicked his ear as a snowflake landed on it. Firefeather stayed silent, wrapping his tail around himself and leaning into his friend for warmth. At least he still had Acornfoot to comfort him.
The two sat there for awhile, Acornfoot becoming more anxious every second. He could feel his paw pads starting to become numb, and the warmth of his friend was starting to not be enough. Firefeather was starting to drift off, feeling too weak to move from the spot he was in. The sound of a twig snapping brought him back to his senses.
A cat stepped out from behind a tree, their eyes locked on to the two toms. As they walked towards them, Firefeather sighed,
"Firefeather, Acornfoot, how nice to see you." Their mew was laced with anger, which confused both Acornfoot and Firefeather. It took them only a moment to figure things out- as the cat who stood before them slid out their claws.
"W-What are you doing?" Acornfoot mewed, the fur on his back rising. Although he felt anxiety gripping his chest, he stood in front of Firefeather to protect him. The killer watched Acornfoot, waiting for him to make his move. Acornfoot slid out his claws, and slashed out to try to intimidate the cat. As his paw reached the ground, the cat sprang forward, gripping his throat with their teeth. Acornfoot struggled, and the cat hang on tightly. Acornfoot stumbled, taking both of them to the ground. The cat quickly used that to their advantage, kicking Acornfoot hard in the stomach. As he fell off them, the cat hit Acornfoot hard in the face with their paws. Acornfoot went unconscious, and the cat hissed from the pain that caused their paws.
Turning to Firefeather, who was barely able to stand, their tail lashed. Firefeather hissed, but the only emotion he was feeling was sadness. The cat ran forward, claws meeting Firefeather's throat. Firefeather collapsed, the crimson that splashed the ground freezing with every heartbeat. As Firefeather already struggled to breath from the cold, the now shallow wound that went across his throat made it harder. As blood slowly began to fill his lungs, he felt as though he couldn't really breath.
The snow had stopped when Acornfoot awoke. His paws were completely numb, and his head spun as he attempted to stand. He collapsed forward, landing next to Firefeather. Firefeather's eyes didn't move from where they were fixated. Stars were starting to form in front of him, and they began to become clearer. Acornfoot pressed his forehead to his friends, sobs breaking his words.
"You'll be in Starclan soon, I promise. The pain will end.. wait for me. It'll be okay.."
As the snow started to fall again, stars surrounded Acornfoot and Firefeather. The stars began to form into cats, one small and the other larger. Doveheart pressed her nose into Acornfoot's fur, and Oatkit did the same to Firefeather. As Firefeather's eyes opened, he saw his son standing in front of him, and his past mate standing next to him. Acornfoot soon joined them, a smile on his face. Their family was finally together again.
You have lost your final pair Riverclan! Will you be able to catch the killer..?
