Clarissa wished she still had her power so she could read his thoughts. He seemed slightly sad, and that made her feel bad. She didn't like seeing him like that. He had been the only real friend she'd ever had and when he was sad she was too. This wasn't good but she couldn't help it, when she looked at his slightly droppy face she wished there was something she could do but assumed there wasn't.

Damian looked away from the sky and back ahead of them. Letting things curl up around him like that wasn't a clever idea. He didn't intend to spend his long life wollowing in his own self pity, a pity he brought upon himself. He glanced at Clarissa and smiled. "Enjoying your crutches?" he asked.

[intriguing]

"Not really," Clarissa said, when the whole world she had ever known was collapsing around her. She knew that his smile was a mask, there was probably no way he'd ever get back to heaven. Clarissa smiled back at him, "I'd enjoy them more if I didn't need them but then there'd be no point," she said, her own smile a mask of everything she felt, she was keeping it bottled up, she kenw life couldn't be perfect but wished it would be for a while.

Damian smiled and shrugged. "I guess. But they're an awesome weapon," he said, glancing at Clarissa. "That is if you know how to use them that way," he smiled, winking, before looking back ahead.
He could somehow guess that Clarissa's smile was false and he knew that she could see through his smile, but he liked the fact she didn't press him on it. And he wouldn't press her on it.

Clarissa smiled properly for a while. They had come to a compromise without saying a word, that took skill. Clarissa used one of her crutches and pretended to fence the air in front of her. She smiled.

Damian grinned and laughed lightly. "Perfect," he said, glancing at Clarissa before looking ahead and down the street. They turned left at the foot of the street and Damian frowned when he caught sight of something that he thought was the shadow from before. He loosened when he saw it was just the shadow of a couple walking towards them.

Clarissa walked properly now, no longer fencing the air. She too saw the couple's shadow, she knew not to over react. She was cautious though, new-borns could blend into the floor and appear to just be someone's shadow, except the eyes still showed. Clarissa noticed the shadow was full and stopped holding her breath, she let a sigh or relief escape her lips.

Damian glanced around themselves. This area was a little more populated as they neared the town. It was still pretty quiet but they weren't totally alone.

Clarissa noticed the amount of people. This would make things a lot easier for the demon, it wouldn't be spotted as easily. Then again there was one downside for him, if people got in the way of the ritual all manner of things could go woriing, he might not make it into fully formed demon life.

Damian glanced at Clarissa then at the street. As they walked along it, more and more people became apparent. He too was thinking about the same things as Clarissa. He kept his eyes on extremely high alert, checking each shadow that passed him or came into view.
