    ( med cat app ) ( tomcat ) ( 14 Moons) ( arranged mate; Leopardpaw ) ( tagged; Ashpool ) ( word count; 1265 Words )
With his thick fur plastered against his flanks, heavy with rain and the scent of smoke, Sweetnose wove his way through the forest. The bundles of herbs he had managed to extract from the medicine cat den were still clamped firmly in his jaws, like a lifeline. Around him, other cats trudged forward with heads bent and tails dragging in the dirt behind them. They looked as dejected as he felt. What would happen to BlossomClan now? Their camp was destroyed, their clan was scattered throughout the territory, and if the rain didn't let up soon they might have a flood on their paws. Was StarClan angry with them? Has they done something wrong? These worries plagued the tomcat as he padded on, and he was so lost in thought he didn't even realize where he was until his paws hit water. Scrambling backwards, he stated at the rushing river, pale blue eyes flashing confusion. Was the water already starting to rise? He couldn't tell for sure but one thing was certain. The water was moving faster than normal and fear crawled down his spine as he backed away from the edge of the bank. Sweetnose wasn't much of a swimmer. He never had been and likely never would be. His thick cost was so heavy when wet, all it did was hinder his ability to move through water comfortably. He always felt like he was being dragged downward, like we was going to sink like a rock whenever he was forced to swim across a body of water. With a shudder, the tan and brown tomcat forced his paws to turn away from the river's edge. Moving past his clanmates, he found a small hollow beneath a Yew Bush and carefully laid out the herbs he had rescued. Poppy seeds, Marigolds, Coltsfoot, Calming, Watering, Borage Leaves, Raspberry Leaves- he silently listed off the herbs as he sorted them into their separate piles. When he finished, he say back with a satisfied look on his face. Egretcall and Fallenoak would be pleased when they saw the herbs. Odd though, that he had yet to run into them yet. Turning his head, he scanned the crowd of cats from underneath his Yew Bush, but he saw neither of the older Medicine Cats. Was he the only one who had made it to the river yet? Hesitating, he glanced at his herbs. He was very new to this whole Medicine Cat thing but surely he could manage checking his clanmates for injuries... right? Right. Yeah, he could do that. He toootally had this. Pushing out from under the bush, he began to weave through his clanmates sniffing them, running his paws over them, and ensuring they weren't feeling any pain. He was just starting to relax into his role of healer when a familiar voice called out to him. "Sweetnose! I thought you had been swept up by the mudslide!"

Sweetnose turned, one ear twitching as he scanned the crowd with hopeful blue eyes. He almost purred when he spotted the older she-cat staring back at him, her pelt, nearly identical to his own, slick with water. Spinning, he hurried towards his older sister as relief flooded him. Although in the stress of things he had barely had time to worry about her, knowing she was safe now gave him a great sense of relief. He let out a soft purr as he reached her, leaning forward to brush his muzzle against hers. Before he could, however, Ashpool let out a hiss of pain. Alarm shot through Sweetnose as he inspected her. Was she hurt? Did she break something? Great StarClan was she going to die!?!? The flurry of irrational fear hit him hard, like the strike of an adder. He opened his mouth, prepared to ask what was wrong so he could-hopefully-fix it, when she spoke again, voice tinged with alarm. "The kits! Sweetnose, they weren't supposed to be due for another moon. Will they survive without your stocks of herbs?" Ashpool meowed, terror edging her meow. Sweetnose froze, mouth still hanging open, as horror consumed him. Kits? No. No No. Nonononononono. This wasn't happening. It couldn't be happening. Where were the real medicine cats!? He was a fake, a fraud. He couldn't deliver kits after only a moon of training! Not by himself! Giving Ashpool a weak, hopeful smile he meowed, "I mean... are you sure they're coming? Can't you like... hold them in until Egretcall gets here?" He asked, voice jumping up an octave... or five. Judging by the panicky look sent his way, Sweetnose took that as a no and sighed internally. He was going to royally mess this up. He was certain of it. "Okay, um... um... stay right there. Don't have the kits until I get back!" He meowed, giving her one last look before spinning and barreling through the crowd of cats. By this time most of them seemed to realize what was happening and moved out of his way. Skidding to a halt outside his temporary herb storage, he pulled out a pawful of raspberry and Borage leaves, then grabbed a thick stick for rhe queen to bite down on. He returned to her side, just as the first kit was born. A little black tomcat. Again, Sweetnose found himself freezing, but this time with a look of wonder on his face as he watched the new mother nip through the kit'skit' s sac and nudge him towards her belly. It was kinda beautiful, and he was reminded why he left the life he had trained so hard for behind for this new and unknown path. Giving himself a mental shake, he returned to his sister's side as she looked up at him, pain and happiness mingling in her gaze. "Pantherkit. His name will be Pantherkit." She meowed, shifting her gaze back to the kit as he began to nurse. Sweetnose sat there for a moment, allowing the two to bask in the glow of new birth, before getting back to business.

Nudging the raspberry and borage leaves in Ashpool's direction, the tan and chocolate tomcat directed her to eat them while he ran his paw gently over her distended belly. He could feel the kits moving in her, more than ready to be born despite the early date. For the next hour and a half, the young tomcat assisted the Queen as she gave birth to four more kits. Each kit seemed more beautiful than the next; it was almost enough to take his breath away. When it was all over, Sweetnose gathered a few cats to assist him and while they carried the kits, he helped Ashpool to her paws and guided her beneath a well sheltered busy where she and the kits would be out of the rain. He had already directed an apprentice to fill the hollow beneath the Bush with any dry bedding she could find and amazingly, she had managed to find some dry miss that would keep the kits and their mother warm for the time being. Once the new family was settled in, he say back with a sigh of relief. He Was exhausted, both physically and mentally, and he was certain Ashpool was as well.
"You did great, Ashpool. Your family is beautiful." He purred, striking Pantherkit with the tip of his tail. The tiny scrap of black fur mewed loudly in protest at the touch of his wet tail and he chuckled in amusement. Like his father before him, Pantherkit was certain to have quite the spirispirit growing up.

The small calico and white she-cat growled in frustration. Her fur was dripping wet, spiked out in all directions like she was some sort of deranged hedgehog, and still there was no sign of Galewhisker. Flexing her claws, she dug them briefly into the softening ground beneath her paws before getting back up and looking around. Here, with clouds filling the sky and rain falling hard and fast, visibility was limited and most of the scent trails had been washed away. She could still detect Galewhisker's scent, faint but unmistakable. But the trail seemed to be leading her in circles. She hated to admit it, but she was beginning to genuinely worry about the dark gray tomcat. Galewhisker had always been the reliable one. He oftentimes would seek her out just to let her know he was going on patrol and where, just in case she ever needed anything. She had always secretly suspected that deep down, Galewhisker had simply wanted to feel needed by her. She had never sought him out though. He was always the one looking for her... until now. Regret burned within her. Had she always taken the tomcat for granted like that? She supposed that yes, she had. Ever since the day of her warrior ceremony, when she was paired with Galewhisker. It had been right after receiving her full name as a Fighter of BlossomClan. That day had been bittersweet. On the one paw, she had been mourning the loss of her parents and beloved mentor. On the other paw, she was receiving her warrior name. Excitement mingled with grief. She had been overwhelmed and emotionally drained and when Koistar had announced they were intended, she had snorted a very unladylike sound, turned, and walked away without even looking back. Galewhisker had laughed good naturedly and caught up with her, badgering her with questions about her personal life and what she liked or didn't like. She would be lying if she said she didn't find him at least a bit charming. But ahe had had her eye on another cat. Still did, unfortunately. Galewhisker had never demanded her affection. He gave freely while she took selfishly. What if he was hurt? What if something happened to him and she never got to tell him she cared. Maybe not but she definitely cared. Behind her, a twig snapped and the Queen jumped in surprise and whirled around to find... Swiftsnap. Her body, which had gone rigid before, relaxed and she glared at the tomcat. "What are you doing here!?"

indentBriarblossom's scent trail grew stronger the closer he came to the cat herself. He was glad that he picked up her trail when he did, what with the way the rain was coming down-- it was likely that had he been even a minute later the rain would've covered the scent completely. As it stood, Swiftsnap relied heavily on this to guide him to her for the rain fell into his eyes more quickly than he could hope to blink it away. It was because of his poor visibility, he would later justify to himself, that he stepped on the branch which alerted Briarblossom to his presence. Her snapping was unexpected. He thought that she would have been in distress, but rather than seeking assistance she really did seem to have just wandered off when the clan needed her. And now she was angry with him. Ungrateful-- The tip of his tail twitched, near-imperceptibly.

indent"What are you doing out here?" He retorted, crossing the short distance still between them. "I noticed you had broken off from the group, and I assumed that you needed help. Don't tell me you're just traipsing around the forest while the others are fleeing danger?"

❀ blizzard & lion -- five

      BLIZZARDBRIAR
      ────────────────────────────────────────────────────── ➸
heir of blossomclan ♀/33 mns arranged mate. none tags. bluecreek

blizzardbriar tilted her head back as the sky filled with the flapping wings and distress calls of birds as they too evacuated their roosting nests to avoid being smothered by the thick smoke and burning flames. the lean oriental took a few more steps towards bluecreek to meet him, pausing briefly as her clan mate politely touched his nose to her shoulder in greeting. she too returned his polite greeting, touching her cold nose to the tom's shoulder before her body wracked with a cough as the smoke around them seemed to seep out of the surrounding undergrowth. "bluecreek, it's alright" the stark white deputy mewed, managing to settle her voice with the intent to calm her frantic clan mate. she had known the blue tom for quite some time, having actually grown up with him and his sister, amberlight, and considered both of them to be very dear friends. "i've seen amberlight and fluffypaw. both are on their way with others to the river. if you go now you can probably meet up with them before they get there. in the meantime i will do all i can to find frostwillow" blizzardbriar meowed, holding back another cough that threatened to bubble up. "go, and be safe bluecreek" she pressed her muzzle to the tom's flank in reassurance before she turned and bounded back through the thick smoke to find frostwillow.

her nimble paws began to grow heavy and her lungs heaved with the effort to carry clean air to her lungs in the midst of the thick smoke that hung over the forest floor like smog. the action of breathing had become a tiresome chore and her flanks heaved violently with the effort. she had to find them though, and she wouldn't stop until she did. she had to find frostwillow, for the sake of bluecreek, and her father, for her own sake. she had long ago promised her dying mother that she would look after koistar, that she would protect the most treasured being in her life until her last breath. the farther she traipsed into the forest the thicker the fog became and the more laboured her breathing became. 'i just need to find them. once i do that, i'll be satisfied' the white molly thought as she pushed through the smoke, the chorus of violent coughs echoing from her chest into the eerily silent atmosphere.

the most difficult part was finding frostwillow and koistar's scents through the smoke, burning wood and undergrowth around them. once the molly had caught onto her father's scent, her adrenaline seemed to kick in and her legs urgently led her in his direction. then the rain came. the torrential downpour soaked everything and just when blizzardbriar had seen a flicker of hope it was gone. the scents were gone. with the layers of smoke and rain pouring down, she could barely see straight and her heart rate began to pick up frantically. she had to find them. that was all she could think about. as the deputy and the heir to the clan, blizzardbriar had to do all she could, all that was within her power to ensure that her clan mates lived to see the light of dawn. that they lived and thrived through families of their own. with her vision now almost completely useless to her, blizzardbriar could only rely on her nose and ears to guide her through the labyrinth of smoke and rain. setting off at a run, the sleek white molly opened her mouth to call out for her father or frostwillow yet nothing came out. the smoke had burned her lungs and smoke had filled her throat and lungs to the point where it hurt to even attempt to speak. as she ran her legs began to tire and her chest stung with immense pain that was most likely due to the quantities of smoke that had seeped into her lungs. her head suddenly began to spin and her vision went blurry then the heir's body collapsed to the ground. with no remaining strength to heave her body to her paws, blizzardbriar could only lie there. the determination that was always so bright and fierce and lit up her eyes was slowly beginning to die. she didn't know what to do, what she could do. not while she was in this state at least. if only the rain would banish the smoke, maybe then she would be able to regain a little strength to get back to her clan, to the cats she swore on her life she would protect.

      LIONSTORM
      ────────────────────────────────────────────────────── ➸
fighter of blossomclan ♂/30 mns arranged mate. dappledmoon tags. dappledmoon

the large red tabby hadn't taken more than three steps towards the dens that were being devoured by the raging flames before he felt dappledmoon's presence at his side once again. lionstorm's ears twitched in annoyance. could she not tell that he was trying to keep her safe? how could he save the rest of his clan mates if he was worrying about where she was and if she was safe? before the tom could open his maw to voice these irritated thoughts, the long haired calico beat him to it. "mousebrain if you think i'm going to leave you here to burn your dead wrong!" lionstorm was momentarily stunned by her words, his jaw hanging open as the jumble of words he had prepared to unleash on her died on the spot. as reality crept back to him lionstorm closed his mouth, his amber eyes flickered from his mate to the flames around him. he was still worried about koistar as he hadn't even glimpsed the leader since he made the call to evacuate the camp.

just as the mighty warrior turned to face his mate, swift movement out of the corner of his eye brought his attention reeling back around. it was danderfur, one of the clan elder's, and she was running with keen intent towards a pair of cats. as lionstorm focused more, he recognized the absurdly tall black and white tom who's mouth was gripping onto the scruff of a similarly patterned body that was limp below him. "dear starclan..." he breathed out as he watched whitewave and danderfur drag their leader's body out of the burning camp. whirling around to dappledmoon, lionstorm gently nudged her flank with his nose. "okay, let's go now. everyone seems to be out" his deep mew echoed as his giant paws begun to lead him swiftly towards the camp entrance and towards safety.

Briarblossom twitched one ear, turning fully to face the mostly white tomcat. His fur was as wet as hers, and an odd scent seemed to waft off him but she couldn't quite detect what it was. "What are you doing out here? I noticed you had broken off from the group, and I assumed that you needed help. Don't tell me you're just traipsing around the forest while the others are fleeing danger?" The tomcat retorted, closing the small distance between them. Despite herself, Briarblossom took a step back putting distance between them. She didn't like it when other cats invaded her space. Especially cats that were bigger than she was. She glared at him, prepared to point out that she had asked him first, when the rest of his words seemed to penetrate the deep recesses of her mind. Did he say... danger? WHAT in StarClan's name did he mean by that. Cocking her head, she sniffed the air. The odd scent radiating off him seemed to fill the air. Had she been so distracted she hadn't noticed it before? "What... What happened, Swiftsnap? Is the clan okay?" She meowed, sneezing hard as the acrid scent tickled her nose. A chill crawled down her spine as she suddenly realized what the odd scent was. Smoke! Whipping her head up, she spun in the direction of camp and hissed as she spotted the Orange flow on the horizon. Fire. The camp was on fire! Turning, she gave Swiftsnap a panicky look. "What happened!? Did every cat make it out?" She demanded, fur bristling with fear.

─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
The tom's shoulder twitched as Blizzardbriar greeted him in turn, his blue eyes flicking to her face, his mind calmed at seeing his long time friend. He let out a low breath when he heard both Amberlight and Fluffypaw were just fine and heading for safety, though part of his still worried about Frostwillow in the back of his mind. Truthfully, he hadn't seen his mate for a couple days, though he couldn't believe she'd be avoiding him. Maybe their busy routines were just working out in a way that caused them to not really notice each other. Quickly giving her cheek a lick as she struggled to hide a cough, he nodded and turned away to head towards the river as the queen bounded off, though he stopped after a second, his mind racing. The camp was still on fire, and their clan could never ever afford to lose their heir, Blizzardbriar was their only chance when all of Koistar's lives were gone. Bluecreek's couldn't let her go with a clear conscious.

The sleek silver tom whirled around on his heels and bounded after the proud she-cat, his ocean blue eyes wide as he raced around the smoke. It didn't take long for him to start coughing and squint his eyes as they teared up. Instantly the tom dropped to his belly and stalked forwards in his best hunters crouch, going for a method he often used to hunt the quick hares. A silver streak as he raced forward low to the ground in an attempt to avoid as much of the smoke as possible, he stopped for only a second to heave and cough as he choked on the thick black smoke. In the back of his mind, he prayed that their medicine cats would be able to care for the clan, so many would be coughing and more would catch chills. Even now, he could tell the difference between the shaking from his coughs and the shivering of his soaked body.

Bluecreek jumped back up and continued forwards, his mouth open to drink in the scents. Most of what he got was fear scent of his clanmates and the damn ashy earth under him, though for a second here and there he could scent Blizzardbriar, and as it got newer and newer he knew he was close. Despite his crouched run, he was getting dizzy and his body wracked with coughs even as he ran, his breath coming in quick panicked breaths, his mind racing faster than him. His sister and apprentice were okay, so would his mate be, but he knew Blizzardbriar couldn't be, not when he was struggling so much and she'd already been trapped once and now was far ahead of him. His mind clouded and eyes almost closed from pain, he tripped right over the white she-cat he was racing to find, hitting the ground hard. He laid there, panting heavily, twisting around to look at what he'd tripped at, sucking in a gasp only for it to come out as a smoke choked cough, his voice a tiny squeak. "Blizzard..briar." He whispered, forcing himself up through the pain of landing so hard. Crawling on his belly towards her, he nosed her side, his voice soft pants. "Come on, they'll be.. fine." He nudged her, trying to get her to her paws, his teary eyes searching. "G-Gotta get.. out of the.. smoke and rain." Pulling back, his ears perked up as he noticed a rain soaked hollow log they could hide in. Bluecreek started to push her again, more urgently with the last of his energy, forceful with the pretty molly heir. "Come on, that log will help us. Get up, please. We need.. we need you. W-We can't lose you." His voice was soft but stressed as he watched the weak queen, tempted just to grab her by the scruff and tug her into the log himself, but that he wouldn't dare to do.

☆ Rowanpaw [6] Fluffypaw [4] Hollyflower [4]

Postby Tiny_Cat » Mon Oct 30, 2017 7:56 pm

    R O W A N P A W
    ( blossomclan hunter app ) ( she-cat ) ( 10 Moons) ( arranged mate; unknown ) ( location; Camp ) ( mood; Panicked ) ( tagged; Tigersroar, Egretcall ) ( word count; 777 Words )
Despite their dire situation, Rowanpaw felt herself relax as Tigersroar purred and swiped his tail affectionately over her ear. The tomar had always had a calming effect on her, and ever since he had saved her from a fox she had felt safe and protected whenever she was in his presence. "I couldn't leave you trying to save the entire clan by yourself, rabbit-breathe. I needed some credit too!" Tigersroar teased playfully. Rowanpaw let out a soft mrrrow of laughter and shook his head at his playfulness. How any cat could be so light hearted in such a dangerous situation was beyond her but with him, she didn't feel like she was running for her life. That being said, exiting the camp was like a weight lifting from her shoulders and Rowanpaw picked up the pace slightly, eager to reach their clanmates at the river. It took her a moment to realize that Tigersroar was no longer with her, and she turned back expecting to see him staring back at the camp. Instead, she saw his body laying crumpled on the ground, breath wheezing in and out of him. The young cat screeched in alarm and raced back to his side, running her paws over him as she had seen Fallenoak do when checking a patient for injuries. "Tigersroar, you have to get up! It's not safe here!" She meowed, panic edging her voice. The tomcats lips moved, but no words came out and she leaned forward to hear him better. "Get Egretcall..." He wheezed in a barely-there voice. Rowanpaw hesitated as his eyes slid shut. Could she really leave him there to find the she-cat? This close to the camp, he was still in danger but she couldn't drag him all through the forest alone. He was bigger than she was. Making up her mind, she grasped his scruff in her mouth and began to drag him backwards, grunting with the effort. He was heavy, but she somehow managed to pull him a reasonably safe distance away. She stopped when she had pulled him beneath the shelter of a bramble bush. This close to the fire she wasn't too concerned about other predators but it would keep him safe and out of the rain regardless. Backing out from under the bush, she looked around. She had to find Egretcall... but where to start looking? In the end, she wound up backtracking until she stood close to the camp entance, nose to the ground as she sorted through the various scent trails. It was difficult to pick up any indivudual cat among the many who had raced through here not long before. Not only because the acrid scent of smoke hung heavy in the air but also because fear-scent was clogging up the scent trails, making them hard to sort through. Luckily, she was one of the best trackers among the apprentices and with a little work, she was soon following the trail of Egretcall and Fallenoak.

Surprisingly, the scent trail wasn't leading her to the training hollow or the river bank. Instead, Egretcall's trail seemed to branch off from the others, only one cat keeping her steady company. Fallenoak. The young she-cat felt a thrill run through her at the thought of the handsome tomcat but she pushed her personal feelings aside. This wasn't about her silly crush, it was about saving Tigersroar. Although she moved as fast as she dared, it was still relatively slow going. Between the smoke filling the air and the rain working hard to wipe out any and all scent trails, she had to back track several times to avoid losing the trail completely. That, coupled with the fact that she wasn't following an actual path was starting to frustrate her. She growled softly in annoyance and pain as she tripped over an exposed root, hidden in shadow and thick undergrowth. Pausing to get her bearings, she glanced around. Lifting her head, she parted her jaws and let the air wash over her taste buds, sorting through various scents until one jumped out at her. Blood. She smelled blood. Latching onto the surprisingly strong scent, she followed it until she reached the entrance of the Root Cavern. She had never been here herself but recognized it from the scent of growing herbs and dirt that seemed to waft from inside. And along with those scents, the all too familiar scents of Egretcall and Fallenoak. Relief flooded through her, making her legs wobbly as she called out.
"Egretcall? Fallenoak? I need your help! Tigersroar collapsed and he won't get up!" She called, straining to see in the darkness beyond the cavern entrance.

Hollyflower had never felt so tired in all her life... but if she was tired then Fluffypaw seemed downright exhausted. The she-cat, always so bright and lively, seemed to have had all the energy sapped from her bones. Most likely she was worried about Tigersroar. He was the only family she had left and the two were very close. Resting her tail tip on the apprentice's shoulder, Hollyflower guided her gently to the edge of the clearing and urged her to settle down among the damp fronds. They could use all the help they could get but in this instance, she didn't think Fluffypaw would be much help. She looked dead on her paws. "Fluffypaw, why don't you rest while I help Pebblesky and the others?" She suggested gently, waiting for a response but receiving none. Sighing, she cast one more worried glance at the ginger she-cat before hurrying to assist Pebblesky. With him and the help of the others, they managed to get the tree branch into position before Hollyflower hurried off to locate some decent bedding. She moved into the thicker trees, where only a light drizzle of rain reached the forest floor, and thankfully located thick bundles of mostly dry moss. She gathered as much as she could carry and returned to the Training Hollow.

Back in the hollow, Hollyflower carefully separated the moss and parted it into a thick, soft bed they covered the floor of their temporary home before turning to get Fluffypaw... except that the ginger she-cat was no longer there. Confused, she padded to where she had left the apprentice. There was a flattened area of bravken where she had laid just moments before, but the apprentice herself was nowhere to be found. Glancing around, She spotted Pebblesky in the middle of the clearing with Strawberrypaw close to his side. Perhaps he or Strawberrypaw had seen where she had gone? Hopeful, she hurried to join them, giving the she-cat a warm smile that she hoped was comforting. Strawberrypaw was barely younger than Hollyflower but she looked so young and scared and lost with her fur plastered against her side's with rain water.
"Have either of you seen Fluffypaw? She was here a moment ago but now I can't find her."

Fluffypaw had never felt so tense in her life. Although she had tried to remain upbeat, leaving Tigersroar felt like leaving part of her soul behind. He was her brother, her only remaining family left alive. She didn't want to leave him but she had no choice. He wouldn't leave Rowanpaw and the others weren't about to let her stay behind. She trudged on, each step seeming harder than the one before. She was exhausted, completely bone tired, by the time they reached the training hollow. Pebblesky immediately started putting together a shelter, but Fluffypaw just stood there looking a bit lost, like she wasn't sure what she should be doing. Seeming to sense this, Hollyflower came over and guided her to a semi shelter area and urged her to lie down. She spoke, but the ginger apprentice seemed beyond heating at this point. She just sat There, staring listlessly off into space. Eventually, she dropped her head onto her paws and sighed, part of her wanting to just curl up and sleep. But despite her exhaustion, nervous energy seemed to fizz through her, making her restless.

Across the clearing, Hollyflower bounded off in search of moss and, mind made up, Fluffypaw clambered to her paws and turned back in the direction of camp. No cat seemed to notice her leave and she didn't hear any pastels chasing her down. She wasn't even planning on entering camp. She just wanted to run into Tigersroar and Rowanpaw on their way to the hollow. Unfortunately, she didn't run into either hide or hair of either cat and her anxiety seemed to double. They should have made it out of camp by now but she couldn't even detect so much as a scent trail. Flexing her claws uneasily, she picked up the pace. Of course, watching where she was going might have been a good idea but she wasn't thinking straight. She yelled loudly in pain and surprise as her paws snagged on a tree root and she pitched forward, crashing into a prone figure standing several fox lengths away from the camp entrance. Groaning, she shook her head groggily before looking up to find Somehow just... standing there. Looking at the camp entrance, then back at the tomcat, she frowned in confusion. What in StarClan's name was he doing? Shaking herself, she glared at him, something she didn't do often. She wasn't typically a hostile cat but she was tired, hungry, scared, and now her paws hurt!
"Silentpaw! Why in StarClan's name are you just standing there!?" She meowed, hopping awkwardly around to face him so she didn't put weight on her twisted paw.

indentIf he noticed she'd put more space between them he didn't let on. He kept quiet while he waited for her to formulate some kind of excuse-- until it became obvious she had no idea what he was talking about. The tom hunched his head between his shoulders, pointedly looking ahead rather than turning back to see the smoke. "The camp has caught fire," Spitting, "I didn't follow them, I followed you to see if you needed help! There were many scents leading away from camp; I'm going to assume everybody made it out safely for the sake of my patience!" When he shook his head the sheer amount of water that was shaken free added to his irritation. He was cold, it was wet, and he'd left his clan to follow a cat wandering directionless and perfectly fine. "Why are you out here?"

Alarm blossomed in the young she-cat and inexplicably, her first thought went to Lionstorm. The arrogant to cat drove her nuts but he had been part of her life since she was a kit. She didn't want him dead! And what if the others? Blizzardbriar, Sweetnose, Ashpool... we're they okay? Ashpool was pregnant. What if the kits came early? Were any of the medicine cats keeping an eye on her? Shame washed over her as Swiftsnap pointed out that he had followed her to make sure she was okay. Unspoken between them, the fact that he could have followed a cat who actually needed help if she weren't such a mousebrain. "Why are you out here?" He asked suddenly, shaking water from his pelt. Briarnlossom flinched as the icy droplets hit her but she didn't have the energy to get angry about it. Besides, it wasn't as if her thick pelt was dry. Quite the opposite. She was as water logged as a beaver. Shuffling her paws, she looked away from Swiftsnap as her ears burned hot with embarrassment. She couldn't tell him that she was out here sulking because Lionstorm's words had held an extra bite to them today. He wouldn't understand the odd relationship she shared with the tomcat. Nor could she explain that she had been taking a nap while their clanmates were fleeing for their lives. She was already certain he thought fairly lowly of her and for some reason she found herself unwilling to add to his already unimpressive image of her. She was certain the whole clan must view her as vain and self-centered at this point and that hurt. A lot. "I uh... I was looking for Galewhisker. I don't think he came back to the den last night. I was worried about him." She finally meowed. It was partially true. She had been looking for him just now. Unfortunately she had been more concerned with finding him so that he could tell her she wasn't useless or vain so maybe she really was as selfish and self-centered as every cat thought she was.

It seemed the camp was clear. Or so Koistar had said. Silentpaw felt his shoulders sag in relief at the news. Everyone had gotten out, which surely meant they would all be okay. He too should move further away from the camp, from where the fire was devouring everything, but all Silentpaw did was move a few fox-lengths away. He could see it all from his spot,
and with the rain coming down harder he could see the great flame begin to die. It was the truth of everything, how temporary it was. The fire came and went. The rain too would come and go. Their camp, what was left of it, what had not been burned, that too was only temporary. But the thought did not disturb the apprentice, rather it made him raise a silent thanks to StarClan. As temporary as they were, they would all live to see another day - none consumed by the feat of the orange fire.

As he stood there, gazing watching something bumped into him, knocking him out of his reverie. Wonderful... Another one? On the same day? Silentpaw turned towards the source and found Fluffypaw glaring thorns and claws into him. Silentpaw felt his whiskers droop, swishing his tail behind him as she berated him. It seemed the day was made for him to continue making mistakes! Especially towards his fellow apprentices. "I was just...", something deep inside him told him not to reply,
that he owed no one any kind of explanation, but his maw opened anyway and words poured out of it. "I was just watching. Everyone else just kept running but the rain... I just wanted to see." The large tom shrugged again, avoiding eye contact, but he caught her awkward movement and turned to her with a frown. "Are you okay? You're hurt!" She knows that, mouse-brain, his mind supplied with a sneer. But Silentpaw did not know what to say nor what to do. It sent him into a small panic, almost everyone was gone. "You need to..." You're no medicine cat! and it was true. Silentpaw looked around, "You need to settle down - you can't walk with your paw like that!"

The young ginger she-cat, never one to stay mad at any cat, let out a soft purr of amusement as Silentpaw started fussing over her. While her paw did hurt, the medicine cats were nowhere in sight and even with the fire finally starting to dwindle, it wasn't safe for them to loiter where they were. Besides, she still wanted to find Rowanpaw and Tigersroar. Leaning forward, she bumped her head gently against his shoulder in reassurance and gave him a far kinder smile. Just because she was grouchy didn't mean she should take it out on Silentpaw, especially since she knew Leopardpaw tended to pick on him a bit too often for her liking. "Silentpaw, I'm okay. Really. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have snapped at you like that. I'm the one who wasn't watching where I put my paws." She smiled sheepishly. It wouldn't be the first (or last) time she had tripped because she wasn't paying attention to where she was walking. Lifting her muzzle, she parted her jaws and tasted the air. Smoke, Rain, and fear scent hung in the air along with Silentpaw's own individual scent... But there was no trace of Rowanpaw or Tigersroar and she sighed. She wanted to keep looking for them but no way would she find them. Not with the air heavy with smoke and the rain washing away even the strongest of scent trails. She would have to return to the hollow. Pebblesky and Hollyflower would have noticed she was gone by now and she didn't want to worry them anymore than she already had. Flicking Silentpaw with her tail, she smiled tiredly. "Come on, we should head for the Training Hollow. We can get my paw looked at in trhe morning when we find the medicine cats." She meowed, stumbling gracelessly when she attempted to limp forward.
