Just woke up at 12:30 with inspiration because of a dream! Have to say it. Probably stupid as it is so late but need to at least note it for myself...

Instead of "adopting" humanoids, you could befriend them? They wouldn't be tradable or anything but you can dress them up and coustomize them and role play as them. So like in some events Mermaids (for example) could come and hang out. Many oxen based pets could be adopted and there could be a story like and if you get to the end you can befriend a special Mermaid (that the story is based around. Then you can go in and give them "makeovers" with items. You wouldn't be able to trade them or anything, but you could use them in roleplays and in the next event with their people in it they might give you extra little presents and hints on how to complete quests?

And now to sleep again until 6. Night! (Probably gonna look at this in the morning and be like "what the heck was I thinking" but oh well.)

I think when a pet of yours are full grown, you can take them on quests up to 12 hours to gather loot and stuff....

@armadillosushi: I apologize! I wasn’t trying to undermine you or other artists by saying it’s harder to colour in! I’m in class at the moment and it was the first thing that came to mind! I must apologize for how rude I came across when mentioning the issue with super realisitic pets!

Oh no no no!! I'm so sorry if I seemed hostile, honestly I'm just trying hard to not get you guys' hopes up ^^' And it's true that for simple designs, all that is required is a little colour- my biggest worry is just high expectations that us volunteer artists couldn't reasonably fulfill. I took nothing by it, and that's as a stiff-necked Canadian :P

I think "befriending" humanoids would stretch the abilities of our poor coders similarly, but the idea of having them to represent admin and other figures is very nice. We can even base them off site pets as Aywas has done with their (absolutely stunning) NPCs.

Yeah, rereading it in the morning made me think "that would be hard to code." I just didn't want to forget it as it was midnight.

@vanishing pixie: I cannot draw digitally sadly, for the life of me. I do not want the artists to feel pressured to a majority of the art, as I would feel bad if they had to. I could draw the outlines by hand, and have the artists redo them based off of what I've done. Not entirely copied, but could use them as an inspiration. Or alternatively, if the artists didn't mind, they could do the main linearts, but not all at once. I did ask which they preferred to do, and could go off of those lists to ensure they do outlines of what they want. However, this is currently up in the air, and will ultimately be decided upon what the artists want to do, and are willing to do!

@toastedtea: I would absolutely love for the artists to help with art around the site. I am currently creating sketches by hand of different art I would like to see around the site - especially for things that I have yet to share with all of you I will go ahead and write up expectations for all the roles and post them tonight to the front page, so there is no confusion on what roles everyone will be playing!

@armadillosushi: I do not want to put any high expectations on any of the artists, especially since you are volunteers! I plan on ensuring that artists and coders especially, but also other staff members, have a sort of "payment" - not actual cash - to repay you all for your hard work! However, this is currently under construction and won't be touched on until later on down the line.

@the humanoid idea: I believe the best course to go about surrounding the humanoid idea is to have them as NPCs that "run" different parts of the website. I agree on the aspect that it would be awkward to "own" a humanoid creature as a pet. I believe they could be around the site acting as guides for newbies, shopkeepers, and rule keepers perhaps (etc.)

Does this help with all current issues?

An idea is to have a writing competition and users and staff vote on the one they like the best and it can be featured on the front page of the website.
