the departing;
The smell of urban life soon trailed behind her as she watched the glow of the city disappear out
the panoramic windows. She was no longer bound to time; the overlord that controlled her every
delicate move. Where she was going, time would not be needed. She could spend hours idle and
it would only feel as if a minute had passed. Juniper looked down, her single small bag sat on the
floor of the train in a sad heap. Would she regret leaving her life behind? The quietest of sounds
escaped her, not a chance.

After a restless night, the warm glow of the sun finally awoke the young girl. She peered behind
the curtains, careful not to feel the burning of the new sun. Once her eyes adjusted fast to the
light, Juniper saw the world she had come into. It was like paradise; the vast open fields of lush
green freckled with overgrown trees. The animals too, oh the animals! She ran the other side of
the train, tripping over another's luggage. Falling into the window, what she saw made her gasp.
Blue. It was all blue, such a blue she didn't believe it was real. The light of the morning sun danced
across the water, Juniper swore it looked like millions of sapphires. This is what she left for, to
venture into the world unknown.
She composed herself and went back to her seat, slightly embarrassed at her clearly audible gasp.
She took out her notebook and started to write.
It is here in this land unknown that I find myself at peace. A peace I've never before felt in my life.
I do apologize to you, Mother, I am truly sorry I didn't say goodbye. One day maybe I'll go back, but
I do think I'll call this home now.
Juniper stopped. A single tear rolled down her cheek, thinking about her sudden departure. She
should have said goodbye to her mother, but it would have made it so much harder to leave.
It's the best thing, right? That I didn't say goodbye?
Trying not to cry further, she closed the notebook and looked out the window again. She was now
looking at a deep green forest on the horizon, and knew she would be leaving the safety of the train
soon. A smile grew on her saddened face.
