Beginning of Other Writing/Characters

Postby Sonmi-451 » Fri Mar 25, 2011 2:29 pm

I have now posted and organized all of my CS pet pairs, so all of my other posts from here on out will be my writing from outside of CS, mostly short stories with a few poems mixed in, and then my characters from outside of CS as well.

Darklighters Short Story (Sam x Grant)

Postby Sonmi-451 » Sat Apr 02, 2011 12:04 pm

“Hey,” Sam greeted as she opened the door, and her mouth fell open as she gazed at her visitor. Grant's light brown eyes sparkled as he looked down at her, and he must have gotten a haircut today, because his hair was far neater than she remembered it being yesterday. His black tux was immaculate, and the red tie he chose added to the image that he was a very confident, very good-looking and – based off his expression as he watched her watch him – very in-love twenty-one-year-old on the verge of doing something great.
“You look awesome,” Sam breathed as she stared up at him – he, with a six-foot-four football player's frame, had a foot and nearly a hundred pounds on her, but the height gap really wasn't that bad – and she couldn't help but reach up and touch his face to make sure that he was really there, that she wasn't just dreaming.
“You're one to talk,” he murmured, leaning into her touch slightly as he took her in. His eyes were darker with desire as he looked her up and down, his gaze instinctively drawn to the way her black dress clung to her and accentuated the slight amount of curves she actually had. “What has this dress gotten you out of? Third-degree murder?” he murmured, a smile touching his lips as he finally pulled his stare away from her body and shifted it up to her eyes.
“Nothing, actually, because I have been fortunate enough to not do anything illegal in it,” Sam responded, and Grant's smile got bigger as he continued to watch her.
“Oh, that's right, I forgot, Miss Goody Two-Shoes,” he teased, causing Sam to reach out and punch him – half-seriously – in the arm.
“Hey, don't hate on the good kid,” she reprimanded jokingly. “Especially when you're supposed to be taking that good kid out on a date.”
Grant immediately fell somber, even though Sam knew it was an act, and said, “Oh, right, I forgot. Pardon me, my love, for being so rude, and please accept this humble apology.” He capped it all off with a flourishing bow, and Sam rolled her eyes and smiled despite herself at his flamboyant acting.
“Ok, now you're just laying it on thick,” she told him, and he burst out laughing, one of the most marvelous sounds in the world, in her opinion.
Here Grant's expression really did become serious, and he stepped forward into the house and towards her, murmured, “It's so nice to see you,” and swept her off her feet to kiss her, his incredibly strong arms locking around her in an incredibly gentle grip and his lips warm and soft against hers.
“Ok, that makes up for everything,” Sam told him quietly when he pulled back after a few moments of paradise, and she gave him a smile as she locked her arms around the back of his neck and rested her head on his chest while hugging him.
After a few more seconds of sheer physical intimacy, Sam mentally shook herself, pulled back and said, “At this rate we're not going to get out the door till tomorrow, and I really do want to go on a date with you tonight. Now, I need to go track down those mischievous shoes that keep on playing hide-and-seek with me.”
Grant took the hint she had been laying down there and let go of her, allowing her feet to touch the ground again, and she was able to find the flats she had planned on wearing at the back of her bedroom closet, which was actually exactly where she remembered putting them. Her comment to Grant wasn't really very true at all; she had a measured IQ of 203, making her more than two times as intelligent as the average human being, and a quasi-eidetic memory that made it nearly impossible for her to forget anything, which was occasionally to her chagrin.
When Sam came back out into the entrance area, Grant looked her up and down again before shaking his head slightly and joking – although he and Sam both knew that it wasn't really a joke – “Man, if our waiter is a guy, we're probably not going to have to pay for dinner.”
Sam smiled knowingly at that one – Grant was a fan of over-exaggerating her beauty, and tonight was no exception – before asking, “Are we ready to go?” slipping her arm into Grant's when she got an answer to the affirmative, and locking the house behind her as she let Grant escort her out to his awesome car.

“So how are things as the Supreme Commander of Those Who Light the Darkness going?” Grant questioned as he fingered the charm bracelet – which he himself had given her six months earlier – around her left wrist, paying special attention to the charm depicting a white flame on a black background.
“As good as they can be expected to go, I guess,” Sam responded with a shrug, looking down at the symbol on her wrist – which was the insignia of the Darklighters – and feeling a wave of conflicting emotions wash over her.
She used to hate the Darklighters – they had made her life living hell for almost eight years, after all, and then had tried to convert her into one of them and, when that didn't work, kill her – but now, seeing as she was their leader, she wasn't really sure what to feel. She hadn't chosen the leadership spot, of course – it had been foisted upon her when, in the battle to free her from Darklighter clutches that happened almost three months ago, the then-Supreme Commander of the Darklighters – who happened to be a fellow college student who was nearly as attractive as Grant and was very attracted to Sam – surrendered to her and therefore relinquished command to her – but she was doing her best to fill it, with a lot of help from her second-in-command Marshall West – the aforementioned very attractive college student.
“I mean, we haven't had any disasters on the scale of me so far,” Sam added, and Grant nodded in understanding. Sam happened to be the most powerful mortal channeler – controller of the elements – to have ever lived – an immortal friend of hers, Lizzie, had told Sam that she could destroy several continents; it felt like she could do more – and her discovery and struggle for control over her had prompted a battle between the immortals she had befriended and the Darklighters who wanted her as one of their own. In the end, the immortals had won – thankfully – but she still wasn't free of the Darklighters, and apparently there was no way to resign from the title of Supreme Commander, seeing as there had never been anyone before her who had wanted to.
Suddenly there was a crash at the front of the restaurant and Sam saw people – channelers, to be exact – in black coats with white flames on them filling the now half-collapsed entrance of the building, prompting Sam to jump to her feet and tell Grant, “Hold that thought. It might be made false in a few seconds.”
She then made her way to the front of the restaurant as quickly as possible to find none other than her second-in-command Marshall West standing there with a team – a group of five – of Darklighters trying to fight off attacks from another powerful channeler – a roamer, based off his clothes and anger level. As she watched, Marshall – who was the second most-powerful mortal channeler alive, after her – quickly blocked and bound the man with solidifed air and had just turned away from completing this task when he saw her standing there with her hands on her hips and a disapproving look on her face.
“Marshall, what are you doing crashing the front of the restaurant I'm on a date in?” Sam questioned. She wasn't worried about the crowd of curious people that had crowded around to see what was going on – she had already cut off all radio signal in and out of the building and its perimeter so no one on the inside could alert anyone on the outside to what was happening, and she planned on erasing each person's short-term memory after she cleared out Marshall and the other Darklighters and fixed up the entrance – but she was annoyed that she was having to clean up after him and that she couldn't even get through a date with Grant without her occupation literally interrupting her.
“Have you already forgotten my decree that there can be no more forceful captures and conversions of roamers, that you have to ask them before you stick them in a black coat?” She had been captured and almost converted herself – which would have destroyed Sam Brooks the individual and made her into a mindless, albeit incredibly powerful, slave to the Darklighter organization – so she issued a decree to make sure that no one else would have to suffer the same problem.
“We were trying to recruit him, like you said, when all of a sudden he got defensive and lashed out at us,” Marshall explained, and Sam didn't believe a word of it, which she expressed through one wordless raised eyebrow. Her gesture pushed Marshall to amend, “Ok, maybe we were a bit too rough with him. Still, he shouldn't have resisted so hard, especially since we showed him a copy of your decree to prove that we weren't going to hurt him.”
“Marshall, that's like blaming a passerby who called the police for you getting arrested in a bank robbery,” Sam informed him, her annoyance with Marshall fading some as she realized that they really were trying to follow their orders, but that it was just almost impossible to erase fifty thousand years of history and tradition with one piece of paper. “It just doesn't fly.”
“I know, and I'm sorry.” That was one thing Sam really liked about Marshall; he was to-the-point but not harsh and always honest, so she knew that his apology was real. “Next time I promise that we won't crash your date with a recruiting trip gone bad.” He gave her a smile, one that emphasized his handsomeness and also brought out the sadness in his eyes that existed every time he looked at her – he had been on the verge of loving her, but it just hadn't worked out, seeing as first he had stabbed her in the back by going out on a date with her and then betraying her to the Darklighters later on and then had tried to kill her in the battle for her which, at the end of, he eventually ended up giving her the Darklighter organization – and she looked away from him quickly before she could let the empathy get to her. She had maybe had something resembling feelings for him once, despite what he put her through, but that was before she let Grant back into her life, and now that she was with Grant again and Marshall was technically her inferior there was no competition for her at all, something she had made very clear to Marshall less than five minutes after she appointed him her second-in-command.
“I'm counting on it,” she said, and then commanded as an afterthought, gesturing to the blocked and bound man who was at the source of all of this commotion in the first place, “Oh, and seeing as he obviously does not want to wear a black coat, let that man go please.”
Marshall immediately followed her order and the man, after one long, bewildered look at Sam, sprinted off into the night. Marshall and the other Darklighters quickly followed suit, although they used the alternative and much quicker method of gateways – holes in the air from one place to another – to take them back to headquarters. Sam could feel Marshall's sad and longing gaze on her as they left, and she refused to fix the restaurant entrance until he was gone so he wouldn't have an excuse to stay behind with her.
Repairing the building's door took less than fifteen seconds for Sam – for anyone else it would have taken well over a minute – and she turned back to the crowd of curious mortals – more than a handful of which had already tried to use and found disabled their cellphones – to erase all of their memories of the last five minutes, only sparing Grant from the process.
“Is everything good now?” he questioned as she approached his spot off to the side where he had silently watched her deal with the Darklighters for the last few minutes, and she nodded, relieved that the Darklighters were gone and grateful that she was lucky enough to have someone as understanding as Grant loving her.
“I swear to God, Marshall seems intent upon making it impossible for me to escape the Darklighters for a period longer than twelve hours,” Sam muttered, and Grant grinned as he wrapped an arm around her shoulder and guided her back to their table, where their food had begun to get cold.
Sam warmed their dishes without thinking, and, before she started eating again, she asked Grant, looking him straight in the eye, “Are you sure you want to date me? I mean, I'm not particularly normal, and there might be multiple dates like this one in our future.”
“Sam, I wouldn't have it any other way,” Grant told her, his eyes twinkling as he gave her a reassuring grin, and he cupped her face with his hand and pulled her mouth to his to give her a kiss that erased all thought of them not being a couple from her mind.
They then proceeded to carry on with dinner and their conversation as if nothing had happened, and Sam realized as she talked and laughed and ate with Grant that, while they certainly weren't a normal couple by any means, they were definitely a good one.
