tearing his attention away from the task of aggressively chopping a carrot with a knife obviously not equipped to do the job. he would use the proper equipment, but alas, such tools were required for the lettuce. "good afternoon!" he called to the guest, raising his hand in greeting. nearby, all the floating utensils mirrored the gesture. oops. terry thought to himself. that tended to happen when his focus blurred for a second or two. soon enough, the levitating knives, rags, and plates resumed their duties. terrence smiled sheepishly at the newcomer, his brain mentally supplying him with brief details about the man. mr. everdean. werewolf. as the cook of an establishment who served guests with varying preferences, terry always made it his duty to commit faces, names, and species to memory, just in case someone made an impromptu dash into the kitchen for necessaries, he could quickly point them in the right direction. a vampire who had gone without a drink for too long? he kept fresh blood packs chilled in the room over! a ghoul in need of rotted flesh? plenty of that in the walk-in freezer! "ah, mr. everdean." terry said pleasantly. "today's lunch menu will consist of a hearty stew, access to a fresh salad bar, and, what i believe you might be most interested in, perfectly seared philadelphia cheesesteak. of course, if you have any specialty requests, i could whip something else up right now."

Raia could hear voices somewhere nearby. Desperate for something to do, she wandered carefully and quietly -albeit a few feet off the ground- through the hallways and poked her head around (through) a corner. It was the kitchen, currently host to Terrence, and someone one Raia did not know very well. A guest? Ugh, there were too many people in this manor as it was. She silently hoped that this one did not stay long. Why couldn't there be more children? Then at least, she would have someone to play with!

Trent's senses screamed at him: Something was nearby, he knew, although he couldn't tell what. His black, bovine ears flicked,
trying to find a sound or some other distinguisher about what it might be. The building, his destination, loomed above him, but his curiosity felt stronger than his need to go to the manor. He stopped moving, his large body and thick, stocky legs falling stiff as he tried to find out what was nearby. There was a scent of feathers, that much was true, but it was a forest, it was always filled with birds. However, this scent just seemed so...different.
"Hello?" He called out in a deep, gruff voice.

Just as Hickory had began to question whether he truly had heard something or not, he spotted a dark form lass over the ground beneath him. His gaze fixed on him immediately - a face, similar in appearance to a harpy. But the rest of him... What was that? Four bizarre limbs extended from the lower body, a dark red color Hickory had seldom seen back at the greater harpy camp site. And they appeared covered in... Was that fur? His eyes trailed back up to his upper body where he noticed a mane, two elongated, round-shaped ears, and two horns. For a moment, the harpy was too focused in trying to determine what this stranger was that he momentarily dropped his guard and poked his head further around the branch he was hiding atop. But it was only briefly, as he picked up the presence of another creature -- much different than the one below him, or even himself.

What were these woods? Were creatures like them common here? He lightly squeezed the branch beneath his talons so as not to alert either being of his presence. If he flew away now, he could risk being seen. Or worse, lead them back to where Holly was.

His heart lurched as he suddenly remembered His sister. Would she know not to get herself involved with anything on the forest? Surely she had enough sense to listen to him and avoid it. ...But this was Holly. There really was no way of telling. But now all he could do was sit and wait for the strangers to pass by.

His stomach churned quietly, reminding him also what his goal was today when he left the nest - find food.

After a few minutes of giving his beloved companion a scratch, Xen decided to survey how the staff and others were doing, and see if anything else needed to be done or helped with. He started by circling the main hallways, and eventually worked hi sway to the main living room, often used as a common room by his guests. He went to one of the tables and rubbed his finger behind a decoration, testing it for dust. There was a very small amount, telling him it had been cleaned recently, much to his pleasure. As he smiled quietly to himself, he picked up on a presence.
Turning, he saw a newer guest, and gave a polite half bow to them. "Good afternoon, sir," he said, after rising from his bow. "May I be able to help you with anything?"

She was about to respond to the call that often made her show herself, when she picked up on the presence of another creature looming nearby. When she was watching someone, it was common courtesy to leave them alone, so she grew agitated at this unusual prospect. Time to change tactics.
"Hello!" she replied, walking out of the forest, and putting a hand up in greeting. "Are you seeking the manor?" It was a dumb question, as he probably was a a creature, but it wasn't uncommon that someone had gotten lost in a forest, though she doubted one would be in this area unless they were looking for the manor. She did do a half turn, so she could watch in the general direction of the other creature, though she could not pinpoint them. "Are looking for it too?" She let herself smile fully at the other, turning so her back blocked the bovitaur's view of her displeased smile. In that smile, all of her wolf teeth showed and her eyes glowed a bright red.

Had he been spotted? He felt his neck feathers rise as the thought of battle slipped across his mind. No, no. He couldn't afford wasting energy now. ...The Manor? What was a manor? Did it have anything to do with the strange building they could see from the forest? He then noticed her turn towards the direction he was, and he tensed. She was bluffing. She didn't know where he was. He exhaled through his mouth so as to not make any sound. Were those fangs? And what about that odd glint in her eyes? She was definitely foe.

Still, he had to conserve his energy. He was hunting for two until he had the time to teach Holly to hunt. The responsibility of that weighted down on him, and he felt that if he weren't squeezing the branch, it would have pulled him down to the ground. He had too much to teach her, and no time to do it.

The witch quirked her brow at Harley's arrogant words, but didn't otherwise respond. She was likely looking to anger her, so Aspen was not too willing to give that as her response, as tempting as it was. Somewhat confused at the other female's sudden flinch, she glanced around, her eyes landing back on the black-haired gal a few moments later. The sharp red glint of blood stood prominently against the woman's otherwise fairly pale skin, making it easy to spot. While not entirely concerned, as it didn't appear to be anything major and this girl was not her friend, Aspen was curious. "Thought you were suppose to be invulnerable? What happened to that, hmm?" While she didn't entirely comprehend the woman's ability, it was more taunting that an attempted grab at anything truthful. Aspen approached, making her way across the manor's lawn, but stopped and stood a couple yards away.

The man gave a small nod to the other's greeting, a polite casualty that he himself had completely forgotten. The ghost hardly seemed to mind, or even notice, so Kolten quickly dismissed this from his thoughts. His eyes shifted to the various cutlery that raised as Terrence's hand did, emitting the quick few breaths of a laugh. "Rather threatening, don't you think? Didn't know you were that kind of man." he spoke, rolling his head over so that the side of it rested against the crook of his outstretched arm. While his words were clearly joking, his tone didn't share that humor. He thought over his options, though the ghost had already successfully pinpointed his preference. "Cheesesteak sounds good," the werewolf murmured, frowning slightly as he caught movement out of the corner of his eye. Kolt lifted himself from his slouched potion on the counter, turning to see the upper body of some young girl with bright green eyes, floating and peering around the corner. Kolten had never seen her before, but then again he hadn't been here that long. "Looks like you've got an admirer." he commented, leaning back in his chair.

harley raised her look and shot her a rather pained, restraint glare.
"that's not how it works, ya fruitcake." harley scoffed, cracking her knuckles and flinching again.
"invulnerability is when, say you throw a punch at me, your hand is the one that gets hurt, not me pretty face, mate. as for me knuckles..." she explains, trailing off, inspecting the witch a few yards away.
"me knuckles are a special case. a pretty lass like ye wouldn't understand, mate." harley said, with a touch of softness.

"not that kind of man?" terry puzzled, his smile dipping for just a moment. mr. everdean seemed like a nice enough person, but his words were notably lacking cheer, and so terry struggled with deciphering what was truly being said. oh well, there was no use in dwelling in what he couldn't understand, not when there was work to be done! his grin returned in full force when the conversation continued into a brighter route. "one philly cheesesteak, coming right up!" he responded, clapping his hands together. around him, the cutlery flinched once more, though terry had reigned in the impulse before they could follow his gesture and clank against each other. what a mess that would have made! "in the meantime, could i get you a drink mr. everdean?" terry asked, before his eyes were drawn to the head peeking through the wall and he laughed. "raia, good afternoon!" he said, "you haven't been spooking the new guests, i hope?"

Raia glanced between the two in the room, her bright eyes pausing to scan Kolten deeply, before Terrence spoke to her, distracting her. She paused for a moment, before slowly shaking her head and stepping through the wall and into the kitchen. Her hands tucked behind her brown pleated skirt.
"No sir." The little girl replied, her voice slightly whispy. Her head cocked slowly to one side, causing her dark brown curls to bob, and she gave a small, sweet smile, her eyes wide, "Well, not yet, anyway."

Trent looked up as the beautiful and mystical woman approached him, questioning him. As she did, he could hear the noise of something large shuffling in the leaves nearby. Something was spying on him and the woman, and she had moved to respond to it.
"I've heard of the Murkwood Manor." He replied, one of his hooves scraping the dirt slightly, "I've come seeking employment. Are you a member of the Manor?" As he spoke to the woman, his ears flicked, trying to pick u any sounds of the third being present. He was alerted, but did not show it, managing to keep his face blank and his muscles, both human and bovine, calm.

She grinned as she felt the slight fear from that direction. Being a yokai had its perks. After letting her features quickly reform back to that of a human, she turned to the wannabe-employee. "I am a resident," she said, grasping her chin with two of her slender fingers in though. "You will definitely want to speak to either Mrs Haevens or Mr. Evans..." She shook her head. "Sorry, just trying to think where they would be. Want me to take you the short cut to the Manor, Mr...?"
