Sagestar
Mistakes were made.

Grimly, the pale-furred tom paced the starry heavens and stared down at the minuscule Moorclan. The pain of his foolishness still pricked like a thorn and he hoped that Fritillarystar would have the foresight that he'd lacked; except judging by her disbelief in Snailstep's treachery, he'd have to pin his hopes on some other wiser cat that either he or Fritillarystar. Sitting down and casting a forlorn look in Greynose's direction, Sagestar couldn't help but feel a terrible pain in his chest.


It was the pain of his heart breaking into two; to see other cats being made to sort out his mistakes and destroy the cat that was Swanstar, whom he'd allowed to grow within his ranks and poison his own heart. Squeezing his eyes shut, Sagestar wept and wept and wept. He'd been a terrible leader; scarcely believing that he truly walked Starclan's skies and didn't crawl in the muddiness of the Dark forest along with Swanstar.

''Fritillarystar; hear my blessing and listen to Robinstorm, she knows what you do not.'' He only hoped that Robinstorm would be able to control her rogues and not just unleash them on innocent cats, especially with three kittens in the nursery. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see Addercloud gazing lovingly at the nursery. His first apprentice had grown strong and it pained him even more to see her dead rather than alive. She and her mate had died before their time; all Sagestar's fault. ''Can anyone tell me why I walk the stars?'' He moaned, staring at the inky darkness above where better cats roamed.

When apprentices were not at the Moonpool, one of Minkstar's hobbies was exploring how far Starclan went. He had been dead for more seasons than he cared to think about and he had seen forests, mountains, tundras, deserts; on and on the territories went. The elderly tom had once been surprised that humans had any space to live but had long since accepted the vastness of Starclan. His descendants, in a way, were talking in Starclan's recreation of Forestclan's camp, still unwilling to truly accept that they were dead. Dawnstorm had been reclusive since his kits had been brought to the Moonpool and while Minkstar wished that he could do something to comfort the younger tom, there was little that he could do.

The sound of weeping interrupted his thoughts and Minkstar looked up, ears perked and tail raised. He slowly walked towards the noise and saw a gray tom crying to himself. The former leader of Cherryclan was surprised, as he had rarely encountered another Starclan cat during his explorations. He padded up to the other and sat down next to him.

"Why are you crying?" Minkstar asked gently, as though he were talking to a kit. And in a sense, he likely was, as he was older than most cats alive nowadays. He couldn't even begin to say how many seasons it had been since Cherryclan's dispersal and his eventual death.

Mistakes were made. - Talking to Minkstar of Cherryclan

Sagestar sat up straight and frowned sternly when another approached him; for all his mistakes, he still wished to remain presentable in front of others. He'd not seen this tom before but there was something kindly, if not patronizing, in his tone; something that told Sagestar that he needn't be on guard. ''Oh, just regret.'' He smiled calmly, noting the age that gleamed in his eyes and Sagestar wondered what he'd seen in his long moons; whether he'd seen murder, betrayal and heartbreak. Sagestar hoped that he had not, but a selfish part of him hoped that he'd been a terrible leader; it'd make him feel less terrible about his own shortcomings.


''What about you?'' Sagestar inquired. ''What do you feel when you look at the cats you left behind?''

Minkstar cocked his head. "I haven't seen them for many seasons," he said thoughtfully. "But I'm very proud of my only descendant, Honeystar." He took in the straight posture and stern face of the other. The other tom seemed like a clan leader who had seen too much and regretted it all. That would explain the crying, at least. While Minkstar certainly regretted his inability to keep Cherryclan together, it was all history and he was more focused on leading Forestclan into the brightest future possible.

"Did you know her?" Minkstar asked. He suddenly realized that he had forgotten to introduce himself and ask for the other tom's name. "Oh, and what's your name? I'm Minkstar, formerly of Cherryclan but now guardian of Forestclan." His smile was humorless. "Depending on how old you are, you may have heard of Cherryclan. It failed before I could attract more than ten cats. They scattered and I haven't seen them since. Not even in Starclan."
