Atwood wrote:(( sunny.day, unfortunately Elizabeth is not accepted, as she doesn’t really fit the setting. Rally is set in a medieval-like time, but she seems more like a modern high schooler. In Rally, there aren’t grades, kids are taught all together in one building rather than having separate classes by age, school pretty much only covers basic reading, writing and math, and most children leave school when they’re about ten or twelve. Higher education than that would only be taught by private tutors or governesses, and mostly only the nobility/wealthy would be able to afford that. ;3 They also wouldn’t really have a concept of a nerd or geek – a person with higher education in a farming village might be regarded as snooty or prissy for working with paper and books instead of doing ‘good honest labour’, but they would still be given a fair bit of respect (and probably hounded constantly to read/write letters for people XD). For skills, you’ll need to be a little more precise, since ‘artist’ covers a lot of ground – maybe something like Level 2 Drawing and Level 1 Singing would be better? That’s just an example; you might go for Painting and Musical Instrument Skill or something similar instead, and they can be divided up level-wise however you like. :3 As a suggestion, I could see Elizabeth being a governess or schoolteacher and having just left her posting or started out in search of her first one. That would keep most of her personality and history intact while tweaking it to fit the setting more.)) ...))

{I could tweak that, but I'll have to do it later in the day, thank you. ^^}

((I'm going to start putting the names of the characters my posts are referring to over each bit, since otherwise it might get confusing now that we have characters in a couple different places. :3 ))

Slink and Fillana

The stick-wielding boy's eyes go wide, and he grins broadly. "Wow, really?" He casts a furtive glance at his brother and friend, who are still battling and haven't noticed Slink's offer of honorary knighthood, and his grin spreads even further. He hops forward and kneels before Slink, resting his stick against the ground before him like a sword, and bows his head. "I shall be honoured to serve you, my liege," he says grandly.

The other little boy sitting by the well smiles excitedly for a second, but then his face falls and he looks back at one of the houses by the corral. "I'm not allowed," he says mournfully. "I got in trouble an' my mother says I can't play today."

Raising his head slightly, the first boy hisses out the side of his mouth, "Come on, Melik - she's prob'ly not watching an' it'll only take a second." The boy by the well squirms for a moment, peering back at his house to make sure that his mother isn't at any windows, but then grins and jumps down, scurrying around to kneel as well for the knighting. The two boys giggle conspiratorially, but try to keep their voices down so that their older friends don't hear. "I'm Danny," the first boy says to Slink and Fillana, "so you can call me Sir Danny, and he'll be Sir Melik. Or maybe he can be my squire." Melik elbows him in the side, and Danny sighs and rolls his eyes. "All right, he can be a knight, too."

((While they don't actually have royalty in Rally anymore, they certainly still have stories of kings and princesses, and there are knights to be found in various places. ^^))

Alex looks around the Corral, lost in thought before turning to face the horses. Eyes not focusing much on Auden who seemed like a scruffy and perhaps a man not to trust.
He smiles, showing his bright white teeth before dragging his hand through his scruffed hair. "Hmm, I'm certainly saving up for one Auden." Alex says happily and obviously very interested in buying one in due time.
"Do you need any jobs done?" He asks before quickly adding, "-- That doesn't require me to use money?" Alex smiles cheekily, he had lived in Bringo for a few years and knew a few of the town folk fairly well.

Alex

At Alex’s words, Auden slaps his hand over his heart, or rather where he thinks his heart is. "Yeh wound me, Alex, me lad. Now, would I do such a thing as to cheat you outta yer own hard-earned money?" He can't maintain his hurt expression for long though, and he snickers and raises a dirt-streaked hand in admission. "Awright, maybe I would to some, but you can't blame a man fer making a living, can yeh? Them as aren't smart enough to know they're bein' taken fer a ride don't deserve what they got anyway. Now, a sharp lad like you, that's diff'rent. You can trust ol' Auden to look out fer yeh." He winks and gives Alex a bright salesman's grin.

"Nows, work yer lookin' for, huh?" Auden scratches his chin and glances around the corral idly. "Lemme see... always summat needing doin' around here. That fence on the side could use some fixin' up - one o' the colts was rompin' around and kicked a few boards outta place the other day." The section of fence he points to is clearly damaged, with the few rails left on it hanging haphazardly from bent nails or placed precariously across the tops of the wooden fence posts. Some of the boards are splintered and would probably need to be replaced entirely. "I can give you a couple o' coppers for patchin' that. Shouldn't take yeh long, and I think I got some old nails around here from a few horseshoes I had changed a couple days back. 'Course, you could just nip over to the shop an' buy some new ones off Jarvil if you want an easier job of it. Them horseshoe nails was pretty rough as I recollect 'em. There's some spare boards in the barn if yeh need 'em." He waves toward the barn attached to the corral. "While you're there, the barn could do with a good cleanin' out, too. I s'pose I could give yeh a little somethin' for that if you want."

Alex's eyes brightened as he saw the obviously fake, hurt look on Audens face. He smiled as Auden complimented his intelligence, making him feel a lot smarter then he generally was.
He listened carefully to the job, and when the mention of the wiley colt that had smashed the boards open he started thinking of how much he would get, but when Auden brought up that he could go to the store and buy some new nails Alex raised his eyebrow and looked at his old 'buddy' in a sly way.
"So Auden, where do you think the horseshoe nails are?" Alex asks carefully.

Alex

Auden hums and glances over at the barn. "I reckon I put 'em around here somewhere fer safekeepin'..." His eyes light upon a stack of wooden buckets by the open barn door, and he wanders over to poke around in them, finally pulling out one bucket triumphantly and giving it a shake, making something metal rattle within it. "'Ere we are! Knew I'd stuck 'em somewhere." He returns to Alex and hands him the bucket before heading into the barn in search of a hammer. At the bottom of the bucket are several handfuls of short horseshoe nails, all looking somewhat rusty and bent, and most of them have dull ends where the farrier clipped the ends off. Auden wasn't lying when he said that they were in bad condition - these will be very difficult to work with, and many of them look like they'll be too short to hold the planks to the fenceposts. There are enough nails in the bucket that the job could be done with them, but it'll take a while to repair the fence with such poor supplies, especially as Alex has no particular experience with building fences.

Auden returns with the hammer, which thankfully is in much better shape than the nails, and rests it against the bottom of the fence, and he goes back to his usual spot by the gate and leans against it, pulling his hat down over his eyes. "Lemme know when you got the fence patched up, there's a good lad," he says, apparently not intending to offer Alex any actual help with the repairs.

((Ooo, I failed with that last post.. So used to past tense..))

Alex sighs gently, although he had no skills what so ever in woodtech or working with tools really, he would give it a try and he knew enough from the few years he is still spending with his Aunt Tethuca.
He nods and turns around, pivoting on his worn out but still good shoes. They weren't the best and he noticed that more wen he felt the soles shift from their correct spot, so Alex decides to fiddle around with his toes and heels until they are back in place.
He starts towards the barn as soon as the soles of the shoes are back in place, Alex reaches the barn and peaks inside, starting to look for the planks of wood.

(( Bah sorry for the late response x3 ))

slink;;

    Grinning inwardly, Slink dons his most serious expression to suit the occasion and, with a more-than-necessary twirl of the long stick, taps it accordingly on the two boys' shoulders. "Then by the power vested in me, prince and future king of the land of Far, Far Away, I hereby knight thee, Sir Danny, and Sir Melik!" He steps away from the two to allow them to rise, leaning on the stick with a grin. "And so now that you are knights, the princess and I should be free to drink of your water...but then, what could the password be, in case we need your services again, young knights?" Slink asks, asking out of fun, but maybe it would be worthwhile to see if the password meant anything to these kids.

(( Sorry also for the low-muse post; still kinda bushed. ;-; ))
