Oh my goodness, that sounds fantastic! My mom's friend's daughter is in college, and she went to NZ to study wild animals (she's majoring in ecology and whatnot); she came back and told us all about the birds there, plus other endangered species around the world...now I'm writing a story about jacana birds. Where did you go specifically? And takahe sound so cool! I've never heard of them, so I looked them up. Y'all Kiwis have the best species. (And you're probably right about the Christian thing, whoops. I suppose I've only experienced my side of the religion wars...it does get quite ugly for the lot of you too.)

Oh! Have you heard of the story behind takahe? They were extinct for fifty years, but even as a child Dr. Geoffrey Orbell couldn't believe it, and wanted to find some. He was tramping with his mates once in the Murchison Mountains down in the South Island and happened across a secluded valley, where a bunch of takahe were hiding! If you google it, official sites will probably be able to tell the story way better than me XD (hehe, no worries c: )

How did you get into writing?

We always did short story projects in elementary school, and being the hippie I am, I decided I didn't like how structured everything was: how they made you write the story; how there wasn't room for creativity. So I started writing my own stories, first as a way to vent about bullying, and now to bring all the dumb ideas in my head to life. I started in fifth grade; when did y'all start?

I was eight or nine when I started a 'proper' story, but I'd probably been scribbling things down before that... Maybe. XD

i'm so excited! i actually came up with a story idea i like! it's got all the best things: conspiracies, murder, zombies, and gore! lots and lots of gore. which is why i can only share a little bit of what i write about it. oops. still, it's really good. i'm going to be publishing the main story and little side writings on ao3, so i'll update you guys as i go even though no one will want to read it; i'm a terrible writer. i'll also share my drafts with anyone who wants to read them as i go. the outline i'm working on is here. it's a google doc, hope you can see it.

This is off-topic, but I just got a new toilet seat for $6! It was really easy to replace the old one, too (our landlord wouldn't do it for us), and I'm just happy that we no longer have to use a toilet with a broken seat. Woohoo! Okay, I'll shut up.

Probably what's-his-face from The Bandits of Infinity Forest, actually... He was nasty, a sorcerer, and probably a Gary-Stue. That's right, King Luther. I'm not sure if I love him or hate him, actually, help. I also disliked Sa'an after he tried to kill Jedi, my MC XD I love that book so much... I should rewrite it c':

GUYS. So, despite already being in the middle of a book, and having to read two other books for school, I checked out a huge book today at the library. GUESS WHAT IT IS. The complete collection of Sherlock Holmes! I've never read any Sherlock Holmes books before, so I'm super pumped for it. I already started, and it's so awesome.

It depends! I've never done it personally, but it you want to share what you've written with more people then posting it here is a good idea. The CS community is really positive! Plus, it can help you write regularly. Don't worry about it being ignored, because you can put a link here and some of us *cough cough Ranger cough cough* will definitely go read it!
If you're nervous about putting it up for so many people, you can always post it on Writers Haven instead. It's a smaller community that's mostly just made up of us. I haven't been there in ages though, haha...
I had MoC on Writers Haven but I got really self-conscious about it and took it off. You can always do that too, if you regret putting it up.
Anyway, if you decide to put it on CS, make sure to show us!

Whenever I think about writing, I'm just thinking "eh, sounds boring". But if I think about what I'd be writing more specifically, I'm more like "HELL YEAH EMOTIONAL TRAUMA!!!"

Good to know I'm not alone with the love of tearing apart my characters' mental stability c:

Speaking of, I went off writing after I posted that and I worked a bit on MoC. Oh yes, I am going to be talking about it a lot for the next few weeks, because my love for it has come back with full force. Anywho, I've written a small piece which is the end of Chapter Three, and I'm not sure if it's any good. I like to try and write in interesting ways, especially because my current MC (Caitlin) is prone to panic attacks, which can skew her view of the world and so (hopefully) makes things a little confusing for the reader too, without being downright bad. Anyway, I'd really appreciate it if someone could give their opinions on it. It's just 390 words, and you don't need to know what else is going on. Please PM me if you could help, I feel like I'm posting too much MoC on this thread so I won't put it here c:

Does anyone remember Captain/skipwrecked from Inklings? bc they really inspired me - especially their story Swindle.

Yes! When I, too, was stalking Inklings and Lazy Writers (I read every last page of the current volume of Inklings and Vol. 1 of LW), I always looked up to Captain. They were a great author, and I loved all of their characters...I wouldn't be surprised if they were published by now.

Who is the least favorite character you've created?

A character that I haven't deleted from the story by now? Ehm, I'm the type to get really attached to my characters, but I guess I don't really like my main character's brother. I didn't think he'd be that important, so I didn't give him much of a personality, but when you only have four main characters (one being a cat), everyone is important. I've given him a personality now, though.

I need to read up on this. That reminds me of how they found the kakapo again--I think there were about eighteen hiding on the side of an extremely steep mountain? And I'm not sure if I'll post it yet; it's more of a small idea where jacanas have created an advanced society ("advanced" not as in sci-fi, but as in more of an early human society, with small cities and religion and all that), but it's not really fleshed out at the moment. But yeah, congrats on your trip!

I think it depends? I've never heard of someone getting their work stolen from CS, plus the community is well-moderated (and just nice regardless), so you wouldn't get bashed. The writing community here is small, if you couldn't tell, but Ranger reads everyone's work. Posting links to your stuff here will probably get you readers as well. It's not a good place to publish very long stories with long chapters (which is why I don't post things here, and probably why some others don't either). Also, family-friendly websites means no gore, "serious" swearing, drugs besides alcohol, sexual stuff, adult themes, et cetera.

Who is the least favorite character you've created?

Felicia, the lycanthrop, from an old novel called "The She-Wolf Warrior". She was a near copy of me, had the same hair, build and eyes, liked the same things. And she had all of my good personality traits, and practically zero bad ones! She was instantly good at things she picked up (archery, swordfighting), and even had an adoptive wolf mother, who was the most perfect mother imaginable! Let's just say that she was the one that killed the novel. I got so bored of little miss what-I-wanted-to-be, that the novel was no longer fun to write. I actually liked the villain more, and gradually the villain was more like me than Felicia!

But, Felicia isn't lost forever, when I'm finished with The Story of Dante (hopefully by the end of this year, haha, I can dream) I'm thinking of rewriting that novel next. It was great, and had huge potential, but man, Felicia is going to take some work.

There's my top five. I decided to ask this since Mom and I are going through a lot of books, and I remembered Fish is Fish and how it stuck with me. Niamph..... But not anytime soon soon. Its not a spoiler bc.. its kind of expected of someone whose the villain right? Its the killing that matters muahaha.

My first book's protag was named Alana and she was boarderline marysue and she ended up being a pedo pretty much. Yeaah not my best choice in character >.> She was Seventeen whilst Link was twelve at the least and fourteen at most.
