I was bored at work the other day and I was thinking of doing a create a village.

Here are the ranks and descriptions I had made:
Head Chief: The main Chief that overlooks everything and keeps the peace within the village.
Shaman: The healer of the village. They keep everyone in tip-top shape and keeps them healthy.
War Chief: The War Chief overlooks all the warriors of the village. They let the Head chief know when war might be needed or when the village needs to move to stay out of danger.
Warriors: They are the protectors of the village. They keep watch of camp and sometimes patrol the area before the scouts go out so they keep danger at bay. They deal with predators and enemies mostly and protect the camp from raids.
Scout Chief: They organize the scouting parties and report to the Head Chief about what they find.
Scouts: They scout the land and beyond for any animals that could be used for the village. They often find nomads that are looking for a place to settle down and they can become part of the village if they so desire.
Hunting Chief: They organize the hunting parties and report anything to the Head Chief.
Hunters: They hunt for the village, usually with in the village territory.
Gatherers: They have a farm next to the village and they tend to it. They also can pick wild fruits and veggies, this is how they find seeds to plant for their farm. (They are overlooked by the Head Chief)
Learners: Once a tester has made a claim to what they want to learn they tell the Head Chief and then they will attend a counsel. That is where they will be assigned a mentor by the Chief in the group they wish to be in. Ages 12-18
Testers: When children become of age they will spend a year with every chief and then decide what they wish to pursue. Ages 8-12
Mothers: They are the ones that bring new life to the village. Age: 21+
Children: The mischief makers of the village. This is also where the Shaman will pick their learner and they will immediately start at the age of 12. Ages 0-8
Elders: The wise people of the village, or so they like to think. Their experience is taken into consideration and they often tend the counsel with the chiefs. Ages 75+

This is just a skeleton idea as I think of more things. I am not to sure about this though because I don't like to look for pictures of people so if I try to do this then I will let the people(you all) pick their own pictures. Unless if I give you animals...I will find those pictures

I do have a few questions that I’ll just post here because I’m pretty sure anyone can answer them.

First, there’s a few different styles of writing that I’ve come across - is there anything we can’t do? Do the posts have to have conversation or can it simply explain the conversation that happened, i.e, Leader went and spoke to Warrior, they discussed X,Y,Z and then went out on patrol, or, “We need to discuss X,Y,Z”, Leader scolded Warrior. “Explanation all in here”, Warrior timidly replied, “I should be going on Patrol now”. Or is it simply a matter of preference?

Secondly, our actions, I’ve read the first page about 15 times, but I’m still not 100% confident I’ve got in all straight in my head. How much control do we have over the outcome of our selected actions? A few specifics:
1. Is the only function of the Moonpool to receive more cats? If so, are all types of cats available, and do we get to pick the details of the cat all the way through? I know it says you can get a random or ask for example a warrior, but can you all the types of cats?
2. Do we have control over what is learned at training or is that something that we simply request and then the mods post the outcome back to us? Likewise, Mentors, are they given to us knowing certain things, or do we receive a mentor and then decide what they’ll be mentoring in?
3. Are medicines/herbs unique to each clan? Do we decide the names/uses or is that done by the mod, or is there a master list somewhere?

Third, and last for now, sorry for such a long post, lol, Mods, some posts are part of the story line of the clan, and others just simply state responses to the actions the player added to their post. What’s the norm, what is exactly going on with the responses from the mods, I think it’s simply the coolest idea, but I’m not exactly sure how it’s working.

It's a running joke among us! A very old joke from when Hazilnut had this plan to make Beechclan get a lot of allies, I believe, and then betray them. It's been around for a long time!

To hopefully answer your questios:

I believe it's just a matter of preference! I don't think there's a wrong way to write your posts, so you can do it however you wish.

1. The moonpool is used for getting more cats as you said, and the cats can be from pretty much any rank. (Warrior, queen, elder, appentice, kit, and deputy, medicine cat, and medicine cat apprentice as long as you dont already have one!) I don't think you always get to pick the details, but I occasionally see special requests being made. As long as it isn't everytime, you should be good. I think you're also supposed to go there for Starclan's approval when making apprentices warriors but I just see it done through ceremonies most of the time. There are also medicine cat gatherings to get prophecies and such, and just have the medicine cats in your clan converse.

2. Mentoring typically goes like this: You choose the mentor youself. When they go out and train their apprentice, the apprentice gains a skill. I've seen some clans that choose what skill they're training for in post, or make a list of mandatory skills the apprentices need to learn, but some just let the mod choose which skills they learn.

3. There is a master list, from the warrior's wiki, which you can find here. When you first get your medicine cat, they come along with three herbs of your choice from the master list I've linked. The rest of the herbs are given to you at random from the mods, but once again, mostly from the list

Typically the norm is to write out the posts. People around here like to give their cats personality and give their clan a plot, which they love to do in your posts. Sometimes simple action posts have to make do when there's no time, and they want to progress and such. But, as stated before, there isn't a particular wrong way to right your posts. You can write as much, or as little as you want!

I'm not sure who is responsible for the coding! ^^; I'll leave this one for a different player to answer..

I have a couple answers:
You write your style, you can do anything! What I've seen that happens the most (I do that too) is we write dialogue style, then at the bottom write a quick outline of what happened for the mods.

1. Your leader needs to go to the moonpool when an apprentice becomes a warrior, for example. For the cats, you can request a certain rank and your mod will either give you that or choose to give you something else! Usually they give you what you asked for though. Your mid will simply give you a picture, and you can choose everything else! So name, age, gender etc.
2. Depends, I usually write what my apprentices are learning, but I've also seen people just write they're training and the mods tell you what they learned. For mentors, you choose a mentor from your warriors (or medicine cat) and they will always teach your apprentice!
3. Once you get your medicine cat, your mod will link to a warrior wiki page where it will say all the herbs you might get.

That's about all I can help with! I don't dare say anything else in case I say something wrong. XD
