Username: Cocogerber13
Name: Xander
At first glance Xander seemed to be the normal rebellious city boy most teenagers appeared to be- wrecking havoc in the streets and joining bands of other troublesome kids in the back alleyways.
The kind that well-mannered adults crossed the street to get away from.
At first glance you might be right. The boy had his moments. Stealing, breaking things just for the fun of it, and fighting others with everything they've got; sure these thing would normally be considered bad, but what if the lifestyle they were living was considered training?
_____________
The red-head groaned at once again being thrown to the cold, concrete ground, one eye squinting open enough just in time to see a bigger guy around his age hurdle towards him. They won't go this easy on you in the real world- this guy has far too many openings, not to mention how slow he is! Xander gave up trying to calculate the amount of time it would take for him to jump to his feet and abandoned his weapon just as he used it to block his opponent's blow, rolling out of the way just as he heard the 'twack' of a thick boot clamping a wooden bat down to the sidewalk. Nothing-including the bat- was broken but the sound alone made the smaller teen wince. "Is that all you've got?" Xander articulated with an almost mocking sneer. His heavy panting and crouched posture gave away how exhausted he felt. His lack of energy didn't stop his pursuer. He knew fully well that the others wouldn't hesitate to beat him when he's down.
His current challenger was one that he knew well. An old schoolmate, yes, and one of the few he really got along with. The light-clothing-clad 18-year old that stood in front of him now had a very different expression from back then. Still, the slight irritation that glinted in his eyes pleased Xander, promting him take a running tackle with the intention to bring the man to the ground. This ultimately failed to keep himself safe but his goal was achieved. Just as the slightly older teen put Xander in a headlock, the younger heard the familiar clink of his own bat being hit against the ground.
"That's enough for today, you two." At those words the grip around the fire-haired male loosened and both brawlers moved just enough to sprawl out on their backs and catch their breaths. "Reckless... Xander, that last move was utterly, completely reckless!" The voice scolded, the ginger opening his eyes to glare up at the Blonde looking down at him. Her jaw was visibly clenched though it was obvious that she was trying to keep her cool. "This isn't a game. At least Mathias is taking this seriously." Xander watched seemingly carelessly as the woman nodded to his former opponent, who now appeared to have a fairly amused smirk upon hearing his old friend get chewed out. The red-head rolled his eyes and sat up. "It's not my fault that this "training" gets unbelievably bland after you do it- how many times a day? Twice? Oh no wait... Isn't it six. Freaking. Hours? At the very least we could fight some real enemies." He made the point every single day, since apparently he could never stay too serious for too long. The girl -Riley, his cousin who was only older than him by a mere month- snorted. "Yeah, and you'd think that you could take it seriously for at least half an hour. As for the enemies..."
_____________
Finally he could actually see what "they" were. Having lived in the busy city his entire life and growing up hearing the stories of the unnamed monsters that continued to terrorise the unprotected world outside made his imagination go wild. Of course, he was never expecting the humanoid shapes he saw interacting with each other seemingly normally.
Frowning at the dark shapes through the glass of a second-story window, he glanced at Riley. "Aren't they just... People? You made them sound like some sort of super-human creatures, but now that I can see them they're only normal city-goers." Xander was about to add a laugh just to make fun of his kin's suspicions, but his smile immediately fell when he noticed her cold, disbelieving stare. In a hushed tone, the blonde finally sputtered out a question.
"You can see them?"
