Yeah definitely, you don't want to miss out on getting the participation prize at least :).

If anyone has private questions to ask, please first make sure the answer isn't anywhere on the first 4 posts, and then if you're still unsure about it PM a moderator.

emgeal wrote:I'm sorry if these exact questions have been asked before. I read the first 20 pages and didn't see them.

1. If the base is a cake can we use a majority of non-cake edible items? I was thinking particularly of using cookies and having a bunch of CS pet cookies on and around the cake.

that's fine, although it would be best if the cookies + things are also made by you! Store-bought stuff won't impress us much :)

2. If several users enter one cake would each still get separate participation prizes? Or would it be just one? I understand that the if the cake won a main prize then there would be one prize to be divided up as we saw fit. (If not I suppose we'll just whip up a cupcake really quick so that the other user can get a participation prize too.)

You might be able to get participation prizes each, as long as the people who helped really are registered from the same location! (no tag-teaming lazy buddies from around the globe!) just make sure that when you submit the cake you put the usernames of helping hands in the description.
emgeal wrote:3. If the stuff you use is theoretically edible then could it be used even if nobody in their right mind would eat it? For example flour and water when allowed to dry create a very hard layer. Theoretically you could eat it, but most people wouldn't. Another example would be using kernels of grain or pasta to add texture/details. People eat grain and pasta all the time, but not usually uncooked on a cake.

creative use of non-cake food items is alright, but putting nasty food items on a cake won't exactly look delectable. Probably best to restrict the nasty extras to a nasty dough which you could use to make little figures from - cheaper than icing I'd assume. And it would achieve a similar effect.

4. Can there be a support structure outside the cake to support an element? For example if I wanted to do one of the balloon dogs could I have a necklace stand and have the balloon (which is some sort of edible material) suspended from it so that it looks like it is floating in the air?

yes that's fine :)

5. Can we make minor photo touch-ups in an editing program on our cake photos? For example if we notice that our face is in the reflection of something (or a family member walking through the corner of the picture) can we blur it out? Or if all our pictures turn out blue can we use color adjustment to make them look normal? I'm not talking about using Photoshop/GIMP, but something non-manipulative like Picassa.

If you want to blur out anything in the surroundings, that is fine. We'd prefer you didn't heavily edit anything else about the image, but color balancing would be okay. We're going to be looking at your design, not your photography skills, so don't feel you have to go crazy with photoshop.

I'm sure I'll have a couple more questions, but that's all I can think of for now. Thank you very much for taking the time to answer everyone's questions and look forward to seeing everyone's cake designs.

bookworm520 wrote:Wait so if you are under 18 you have to have permission from a parent to do the contest? From a COPPA form or something? Where do I get that?

That's only talking about people who are in the COPPA group because they are under 13. Since you're not in the COPPA group, it doesn't apply to you. Anyway, as it says you don't need to worry about it unless you win and then we'll get in touch with you.

Huskyflower wrote:I have a question: Since my sister(Aurore) and I live in the same house, can we share the entry and the prize? Like if we won C$, we could each get half and the other prizes are all shipped to our house? I know it says that if a friend helps it's only one entry, but we live together, so it's kinda different. Plus our mom would make us share the amazon voucher and buttons anyways :P

Yeah, that won't be a problem.

I read the FAQ, but I don't remember seeing anything about there being decoration to add to your chance of winning. Like, can we put it on a chickensmoothie plate? :3

This seems so cool! Happy early b-day CS! I'd love to get first place and win a custom, though cakes hate me, so I guess I'll sit out. Good luck to everyone else!

What do you mean? Like, a plate that says Chicken Smoothie?

The contest will be judged on the cake itself and it has to be edible, so I don't think that'd really count.

I hope someone on Cake Boss likes CS. ;)
I am an old player trying to make a comeback here. If you see me around, please feel free to send a trade as I have many early game pets up for grabs, and many more common wanted pets from times I've missed.
