tempeststar's heart was heavy.

the last few moons had been difficult. despite the blessings they'd been given by starclan, the tragedy they'd been stricken with was painful, the suffering great. the loss of two young cats, the maiming of another, his first life snatched away--it was frightening. he'd always known things would get difficult, but this... it was almost too much, and his heart was worn heavily from it. as the tom approached the place where the leaders were gathered, he identified one of his allies, mintstar, among them, and his heart lifted a bit. perhaps some conversation would help ease his worries. "mintstar--a pleasure to see you, again. how has pineclan fared?" he greeted as he approached, voice calm and even.

just as the hissing began, a shadow towered over the two medicine cats, a flaming amber gaze boring into the backs of their heads. "shut your mouths and behave, you insolent kits," came the deputy's low voice. a monster of a cat, the tabby-and-white she-cat towered over the two foreign medicine cats, irritation clear in her bristled demeanor. "this is a gathering--fighting is forbidden, and it will do well for the both of you to hold your tongues."

a voice called out above the crowd just as the groveclan tom was dispersing from his clanmates, rising over the chattering of the masses of cats. out of the unfamiliar pelts gathered in the clearing, freckleheart appeared, his blue-cream coat a bit ruffled, whiskers quivering as he darted forward, relief in his eyes. "flintburr, it's so good to see you! we thought you were lost in the flooding--how have you been? have you seen any of the others?"

(She's actually a deputy btw) She swung her head around to glare at Brindleclaw. "I'm not a kit!" She spat, fur bristling. "So never call me one!"

Lily went straight to where the med cats sat.

"What is Nightglow doing?" Appleblaze hissed. Stormpaw gulped.

"then act like an adult." the large cat loomed over her fellow deputy, her pupil's practically slits and the scars on her face only adding to the intimidation her size typically instilled, heavy tail lashing. "or do you mean to tell me that hopeclan stoops so low as to resort to fighting under the full moon to settle their differences?" her patience had never been quite that high, but the audacity of these little scraps--she wasn't that old, but she felt like the only mature individual in a sea of writhing, spitting kittens, fighting over a ball of fuzz.

loststar turned and groaned, momentarily being genuine about his emotions. "for the love of -- i'll be back." he said, his tail lashing. he walked towards them and heard the deputies, and his ire rose. "hopeclan was willing to fight my medicine cat at a gathering?" he asked, his voice low and dangerous. "who is the hopeclan leader?" he asked, snarling.

wolfstrike laughed at the molly, his eyes narrowed. "oh yes, because i'm so fearful of starclans wrath. i'm absolutely trembling!" he snapped, his lip curling. he watched as loststar approached them and let out a high-pitched giggle, licking his maw before turning to leave. "you know you just doomed your whole clan, right?" he addressed nightglow, his eyes gleaming with satisfaction.

thistlepaw heard loststar mention her and sat up straight, her ears perked up. she would never forget his face as he fought tooth and nail, a snarl on his muzzle even as he took his last breath. to see him walking around again...it was amazing for the molly, almost as if she was in the presence of the Dark Forest itself.

➜ The news seemed to surprised Badgerstar, as his head tilted a little, before he laughed. "I can't imagine who from! We don't have many friends around here. Not that we have lots of enemies! Mouse dung," he laughed a little, embarrassed, "that sure came out wrong. We're just new to the area. This is only our second gathering, so we haven't had a chance to really get to know many of the other clans. I'm hoping that will change though! I'd love to make some more friends, and some more alliances. Enemies... well, I think Groveclan could do with out them for now, for the foreseeable future and possibly forever."

➜ Goldleaf was no longer interested in what the other medicine cats of the area were like. This grouchy tom starting an argument with two mollies was enough for her to become disinterested in conversation with a whole lot. She got to her feet, planning to disappear back into the crowd where she would hopefully find someone of a more reasonable temperament and much more pleasant company. This argument was for kittens, and Goldleaf was far from being a kitten now.

➜ Lionheart nodded happily at the news that Beestripe had been good, before she glanced toward Badgerstar with a slightly nervous laugh. "Well," she said, "the last time we came to this gathering, Badgerstar was only 18 moons old, and there were just the two of us. I came from a clan before Groveclan, so we decided it would be best if we swapped roles for that gathering so that we wouldn't become a target to some of the meaner or more ambitious clans who might have wanted more territory. Sorry about that. My name is actually Lionheart, it's a pleasure to officially meet you, as myself."

➜ Upon hearing his name, Flintburr started, turning to try and gauge the familiar voice. Upon spotting Freckleheart, his face lit up and he trotted forward to greet the other tom. Though much younger than him, Flintburr had liked Freckleheart before Obsidianclan's dissolution. "Not lost," he replied in his rumbly voice, "simply diverted to another clan. I'm with Groveclan now, what about you?" He paused, looking pained for a bit, before shaking his head. "No I haven't seen anyone else from Obsidianclan. I was actually here looking for Silvermoon, or word of her at least. Have you seen her? I don't know where she or our kits- Halfkit and Sootkit went. It's tearing me apart really, not knowing if they're safe or not."

[ MAPLEFALL - 18 moons - she - warrior - open ]
➜ Maplefall decided to stay with Flowerpaw, making sure the smaller she-cat could keep up. It was their first time at a gathering after all, and Maplefall had never seen so many cats in one place at once. Her tail lifted in glee as she looked around at all the other cats. She wondered if any of them were near her age, or if they were older like Lionheart and Flintburr. She looked around for someone that she could make friends with.

[ FLOWERPAW - 9 moons - she - apprentice - open ]
➜ Flowerpaw stuck to Maplefall's side, tightly. There's so many cats... she thought to herself, stomach flip-flopping nervously. Under Lionheart's mentorship, she'd developed more confidence, but it was scary being in a new place with not that many cats she knew. A part of her wished she was still at camp, with the other two apprentices, even if they were quite a decent bit younger than her and didn't make for very good conversation. Crouched next to the calico, the small ginger glanced around at the other cats, looking for anyone who looked remotely how she felt.

"Our medicine cat has a very strong connection with Starclan and they often tell us of new clans so that we're up to date on things. Hopeclan is very lucky." He paused to look over at the commotion nearby and growled as he saw Nightglow. "Perhaps we could become allies? By the looks of things Hopeclan will need some help..."

She froze when she saw Loststar. "He's right... Mousestar is going to be so angry..."

Mintstar felt as if her head was in a million different places at once, so many scents and meows clouded her mind as she struggled to focus on a single thing as more and more cats began to fill up the clearing. She briefly heard the agitated mews coming towards where the medicine cats were gathered, but before she could see what the commotion was (and to check if her own medicine cat Weaselstorm was the source of it) a more familiar cat stood out from the crowd. Mintstar began to relax ever so slightly as Tempeststar made his way over, nodding her head respectfully in greeting. "It's good to see you again too, Tempeststar." She mewed, glad to be in the company of one of her allies. "We've been well, one of our own had a litter of three recently." Her smile was a little more strained then she wanted it to be, but she wasn't exactly comfortable mentioning that two of the said litterborn were stillborn.

Rowanpelt cast a concerned look at Mintstar as his leader took her place by where all the Clan leaders gathered, it wasn't hard to figure out that the molly disliked coming to Gatherings, as she always seemed so out of place here then her normal composed attitude back at home. He let out a small sigh before moving to sit with the other deputies until he spotted a flash of night-black fur out of the corner of his eye, Rowanpelt disregarded any thought about his leader as he quickly padded towards the JinxClan deputy, anxious to learn if his kits were safe.

Acornpaw mewed her 'see you laters' to her fellow apprentices before trotting up to one tom in particular, Snakepaw of EchoClan, who was standing nearby with another tom who looked quite similar to him. The young molly struggled to remember if he mentioned having siblings the last time they spoke, but nothing came to mind at the moment. "Hey stranger!" She meowed to Snakepaw, her tail sticking straight up in greeting. "Nice to see you again, and uh, nice to meet you too." She mewed to her acquaintance and his companion.

"Rowanpelt, I am glad that you are here. I have been looking for you for a while. I am sorry that I cannot stay for very long, but I wanted to tell you that Velvetrabbit is doing great. All the kits were born healthy, except one being a little runty." Willowbolt spoke quickly, knowing that she would not be able to speak for very long.
