Fillana smiles in gratitude to Giles. He is very helpful, after all. "Thank you, Mr.Prescott, or would you prefer Giles?" She asks. She doesn't want to be too formal, but she wants to be polite. She shakes her head after he returns the boots to the shelf. "No, I think that's all for now. I'll be sure to be back here soon, thank you for the help!" She tells him as she walks towards the door only several feet away.

The door closes behind her and walks back towards the street. "Oh!" She stops in surprise when she sees a human man in front of her. And he's on the ground. He looks young, just barely adult, a bit younger then her. He is, of course, much taller then her, simply because of the race difference, but that doesn't intimidate her at all. Being one of the smaller races made her used to being shorter. People underestimated her all the time, which later would end up leaving them surprised at what she could do. He had shocked her though, young humans lying in the middle of the road weren't a common sight, at least not for her anyways. After a few seconds, the kirda recovers and approaches him. Fillana extends a hand to him to help him up.

The tailor chuckles. "Most folks around here just call me Prescott, since there was already a Giles in town by the time I came here and people got us confused otherwise, but you can call me whichever you like." A slight thud from the street outside makes him glance out the window curiously, but there's no one to be seen over the windowsill, so Prescott shrugs and puts it down to someone dropping something in the shop next door. He straightens up and picks up his sewing again as Fillana heads for the door, settling back into his wooden chair. "Always glad to help," he says. "Take care, now, and good luck to you!" The door closes, and Prescott returns to stitching the half-finished shirt in his lap.

slink;;

    His cheeks red (either from bruising it slightly for the fall or from embarrassment, he's not quite sure and doesn't want to think about it right now), Slink concentrates on getting up when he sees a hand outstretched before him. He smiles gratefully and, grasping the person's hand in his relatively bigger -- and rougher -- one, he starts to hoist himself up to his feet. "Thanks!" he says cheerfully, pulling himself up and dusting off the front of his shirt. Pity, he just washed it the other day. "I'm not usually a twinkletoes, it's these boots, I've been traveling for some time now and I think they need some mending..."

    He stops, however, when he gets a good look at the person -- or creature -- in front of him. The pointed ears, the strange features.

    How exciting.

    "Wow. Are you an elf?" he blurts out, not even second-thinking if it might possibly be offensive or too outright to ask directly. He stoops over just a bit, being just a bit taller than the girl, and peers at her ears. "I've never seen an elf before. I mean, people back in my hometown used to talk about them. But I'd never seen them before."

Fillana helps him stand up then steps back a bit once he has his balance to give them both room. She can see his boots are as worn as hers are, and that him tripping is because of it.

Fillana laughs, her face lighting up with the smile that comes along How strange. She thinks. He must have never seen an elf before, or a kirda. "No, I'm not an elf." She tells him, on purposelly pausing to leave him to wonder what she is, if she's not an elf. If he'd never seen one of her kind, maybe he hadn't heard of them either. "I'm a kirda,". She finally tells him. "Which explains my ears," she lifts up her hair so he can catch a better glimpse of them. "And my height. I'm actually tall for a kirda. Many of my family are about 3'8", some even shorter."

He seems so intrigued by it, she can't help but tease a bit. "I could say the same to you, but there were a few humans around when I was growing up. But still, you have round ears!" Fillana laughs quietly and wonders if he's like this all the time, and what sort of education he'd had to not know what she is. Still, he seems very friendly.

(( Wondering, are we supposed to follow a post order or something? Or we can just post anytime we like? n.n ))

slink;;

    Not an elf, she's a kirda. "That's funny, I've never kirda've your kind before..." Ohlordno. Just, no. The horrible pun rings terrible in his ears, and he doesn't even want to wait for her possible scowl. However, when she mentions his 'round' ears, he grins, immediately putting the bad joke behind him at an attempt at another one. "They're not that fun, really. I wish I had sword ears like yours, I could probably poke holes with them," he laughs, and just as suddenly wishes he could sink right into the earth.

    Trying to avoid any more awkwardness he could possibly create, Slink looks around. "I think I'd better get to a well or something and wash off all this dirt, there's a well I spied around here," he says absently, looking around for the well he spotted earlier. (He's already forgotten he was supposed to go to the tanner.)

    In an aside to the girl, he asks, "So, are you like, er. You live here or something?"

Although Slink's jokes might be offensive to some, (like Fillana's family) she finds them downright hilarious. Fillana laughs out, her whole face smiling. "Sword ears," She says through bursts of laughter. "That's a new one." She manages to compose herself again as she sees that Slink seems to want to get past them.

Fillana looks for the well, too, and sees it towards where the children were playing. "Over there, I think." She points at the well in the near distance. "As far as living here, well, I just got here this morning. My plan is to stay here for at least a while, so yes." She tells him.

slink;;

    Slink grins, in obvious relief, as the creature -- kirda, pardon -- bursts into laughter. He was sure he would've gotten a smack across the face -- the couple he'd lived with for the last two years sure hadn't been gentle when his care(less)-free mouth would run away with him.

    He spins to where Fillana points and begins walking towards that direction. "You just got here? What a coincidence! I just arrived in this area this morning. Well, wherever here is," he says, suddenly realizing he never really asked the old couple where he was. Not that they would tell him, he supposed. He likes this strange lady already. (But then again if one would look into retrospect over the short, twenty-year course of his history, he's always been too quick to trust for his own good).

    "What's your name? My name's Sol--"

    He stops. Maybe for the first time in his life, stopping himself before jumping into a situation. If there's one thing he always wanted to do while being out in the big wide world, it's to remain anonymous to the general public. He figured, two years ago, that he was way too far from home, as the couple he'd stayed with never even recognized him. Back in his hometown, he couldn't go anywhere without anyone bowing to him or his parents.

    "--llllllink. Slink. Yeah. My name's Slink," Slink grins at his newly-coined nickname, and extends a friendly hand towards Fillana.

    As they near the well, he peers at it, wanting to check it out first. You know, because, well. It might be a different kind of well.

The well set in the middle of the dusty cobbled square looks a little run down with the tufts of grass growing around its stone base and the rickety wooden roof over it, but the stones around the top and inside of the well are immaculately cleaned, and the wood bucket resting on the side of the well is in good shape. The well looks about half full of clean fresh water, and the water is easily in reach with the rope tied to the bucket's handle. A young boy who looks about eight is sitting on the edge of the well tossing some small stones into it idly, watching them fall with a soft plop into the water below. He doesn't look up as Slink approaches the well.

Nearby, three boys about the same age are wildly swinging mock swords made of thin branches at each other, and when they see Slink the biggest boy jumps in front of him, brandishing his 'sword' fiercely. "Hold! Be ye friend or foe?" he demands with a scowl. The other two boys, momentarily distracted from their own battle, pause and watch curiously. One of them has the same messy brown hair and brown eyes as Slink's challenger, probably a younger sibling, while the other is a red-haired torriyn boy with freckles and a snub nose. "Only those who have saided the password may pass!" the boy continues, gazing up (way up) at Slink determinedly.

(( I was waiting for Toppy to reply first, but since she hasn't yet, here I go. xD ))

slink;;

    Slink doesn't get the chance to hear a formal introduction from his new acquaintance before he finds himself face-to-face with a long piece of branch. He jumps, and, realizing he's faced with a troop of threatening-looking little boys, pretends to dust off his boots in an attempt to look as though he'd merely stepped on a bug.

    He raises his eyebrows at the kids, and grins. Their playful demeanor appeals to him -- maybe making him feel a little bit like a kid himself. In fact, he's never really had much experience around 'real' kids -- the only kids he ever used to play with were all hoity-toity upper class ones, who were polite to him just because they had to. (And being the rather immature person he is, he never really did consider that people just were nice to him out of necessity.)

    "Whoa! You're gonna poke an eye there, little fella," he says jovially, and moves his hand towards the 'sword' in his face in an attempt to move it away. "You're not gonna threaten a nice lady like my friend here, are you?"

    When the little one declares the need for a password, the cogworks in Slink's brain start to move. Slowly. "But if we're friends, we don't need to say the password, do we?" he asks.
