nice pics, so cute, does seem like lots of fun and many dogs :) and all those different dots
where there many, all younger or also old ones ?

There were 20 + dals there! It was amazing :D My pup was the youngest by 1 month. Most were adults and a few older dogs too. My family and a couple with an older dog turned back since the dogs were getting tired and I don't want damage Flynn's growth. It was so great to see them all playing together though, they're as daft as each other

@ Middy
The Loch Kes Monster

So Lilly has taken to walking through the house at 1-2 am and bark once at everyone until they wake up.
She stops when sprayed with water.
I don't have the energy to deal with her tail at 1-2 am so a quick spritz with water makes her stop and listen to the next command, "Blanket". She sleeps on the blanket next to my bed now instead of taking up most of my bed.

I don't think retractable leashes should be seen as a sign of laziness, if that's what works for you, it works and that's it.

Anywayss
I took Xeno to a local park and worked on his basic obedience training. Worked on sit and down and touched up on stay and heel. He did so good, especially because there were a ton of kids, a majority asking or worse just coming up to pet him. I really hate parents who don't teach their kids to ASK before petting a STRANGE dog. But it would be completely my fault if Xeno bit someone. Luckily he's friendly and didn't care about all the sticky and dirty hands all in his fur, but he needs a bath now, which he hates.

Hi! Do you guys have any suggestions to get two nervous dogs to meet/become friends? My dog is not aggressive but he is scared of new dogs and new people and it's the same with a friends dog and it would be nice if they could get along (because sometimes if we or they are going on a trip we could watch the other's dogs)

i'd definitely recommend letting them meet on neutral ground, so perhaps a park (but ensure there aren't other dogs or people around to ruin their experience). bring some toys for them to play with. keep both dogs on leashes and kind of draw them to each other so they can sniff one another at their own pace. don't force any interaction between them. if one dog doesn't want to interact with the other, respect their choice and don't try to force them to do anything. if they don't want anything to do with each other at first, take them off leash and let them run around as they normally would (i'm assuming you normally let your dog off leash to roam nearby). they'll come together eventually, but if it's not meant to be, it's not meant to be. they'll get used to each other over time i suppose.

if they get along well at the beginning, take them off leash and throw a toy in their direction. they might fight for it (playfully), shy away from it, etc... let them do their own thing. only intervene if any aggression is apparent. if either of the dogs roll onto their backs and act submissive, tell them to get up assertively, but not harshly. if they don't, leave them be and take the other dog out of that situation. they probably don't want to be there.

feeding them both treats on their first encounter can make the dogs think, "wow, this isn't so bad. i mean, i get a reward for it!" so perhaps look into that?

just some tips. if anyone has anything to add, that'd be great!

You can start by going on some leash walks together. The dogs don't need to meet close up right away or even for a few days. Walk single file, at first two to five feet apart (depending on how your dogs reach to each other), with you two changing on who walks in front. If they are doing well walk side by side, also spend time walking toward each other but not letting the dogs meet at first. If they seem to want to say hi let them sniff each other for a few seconds and continue walking. Just don't force them to meet each other as issues could happen. I would bring treats for rewarding but wouldn't treat them right beside each other if either dog has food issues. Try and always to end on a good note.

As my trainers say, dogs can and will get to know each other without face to face meetings.

A nice little trot at the park. I know she should be harnessed, but I didn't plan on doing this so I just didn't let her pull and mostly had her walk along side. I also ran into *literally* another guy longboarding with his dog. Neither of us saw each other around the corner but both our dogs suddenly jerked to the side to meet each other and pulled us off our boards
Of course, Pete got to come too and he had a blast. I have a video of him walking too, he's crashed on my pillow right now. His little legs can only go for so long.

Also, glad this thread mostly share my sentiment about retractable leashes. I think they're fine if used in the right environment (not crowded, where they're not likely to run up to people/things), but I've seen too many fights start because an owner wasn't paying close enough attention.

_

I think this has been brought up before, but what do you say when someone asks to pet your dog?

If it's JJ I usually tell them "sure" unless we're training or she seems uneasy about the person. She adores being pet by every child ever, and most adults, but sometimes she doesn't like being pet by large men.

With Pete I tell them "if he lets you", because I'm almost 100% sure he won't bite, but if he moves away from their hand I'm not gonna risk it. He likes being pet if he's in the mood, but sometimes he's just not feeling it.

I've never actually had someone pet them without asking unless they were off leash in the dog park.

Thanks for the advice! I'll update on how it goes eventually :) The other dog was in our house and smelled astro (my dog) and she seemed jumpy at first but calmed down later. Then when we dropped her off this morning astro smelled her around the house and was running around but then calmed down and web about his business so I'm hoping it'll get better from there!
