Re: Pet Counts for Rarity Ratios - Preparing for Rereleases

Postby nickjr » Sat Jul 15, 2017 10:48 am

@Law I noticed in the 2008 advent/rerelease spreadsheet that in the Advent 2008 summary, the paint/string horses and the angel dog appear to be treated as separate litters; the horses seem to be about 50-50 between them while the angel dog is... 100% for itself lol Since there are only three outcomes, we can manually put together the numbers to see that that the distribution was roughly 40-40-20 for horse-horse-angel dog, but... ahaha

Will the numbers end up fine on the site for that litter? Similarly for the red/orange/teal october dogs (btw I see "Blue Heavy Stripe" and "Blue Spotted October" but no "Blue Light Stripe" [ID 90] in the spreadsheet for the rerelease 2008 summary??); I guess technically it wouldn't be much different if at all different for the three colors to be treated separately, but...

Yeah, the 2009 warriors were also individual adoptions. Btw there were a few other odd pets in 2009 that weren't really extended releases but they did not go away immediately after the month was up. I think there were some litters that were up for two whole months--but only two whole months. These pets should be in my extended release guide in the third post, "Available for just a few months" (thread was previously called "Guide: Pets with contradicting release and adoption dates" lol so I put all pets that possibly had different adoption dates than what they're filed under in the archives; it's just that I think the thread usually ends up used for the extended releases

I'm... going to update one of those posts with specific cutoff dates for the 2008 pets... eventually......)

Any way we can compare the 2008 and 2009 rerelease data more easily? That's what I'm really interested in; after going through the posts from December 18, 2008, I'm under the impression that the 2008 rerelease was sort of eyeball-planned because I think it was mostly done as a gift to the users or something; we know today that calculations and planning go into the rereleases, so I wonder if we can actually notice any change in 2008 pet distribution in the 2008 and 2009 rereleases. I dunno if it'll really matter, though, since the 2008 rerelease was... not only relatively small, but also just one rerelease lol; it's mostly just that I'm really curious

@DD I think Sol is running calcs on the data to see what sort of conclusions we can draw, and once we have it in a presentable format, I think you + whoever else is working on the "rarity-only" list can use the presented data (or even the raw data idk Sol's plans) to help that list

@everyone my only statistics knowledge comes from AP Stat and a whole lotta thinking ;A; if you have similar or more statistics knowledge, plz also volunteer to look over what Sol gets, because it feels really weird to have the results only run by this kid -points at me- who only has introductory statistics knowledge lol ;A;

Thanks for the extra stats Law!! <3
Are we running 2010 rerelease stats also?
Regarding Rainbow Mane, only the rarer pets are rereleased so back then the non-RBM foals weren't rare enough but these days they are so a lot of non-RBM foals are rereleased also.

My stats knowledge comes from Lean Six Sigma training so it wasn't even a full stats course but it was tertiary level so that's something at least. Would love to have a stats major help us out.

It's the start of the weekend so this is a great time to try and go through our data. I will start with July 08. I will look at what we have for July 08 data on its own, then compare it to the rerelease data for both years, and see what we find out. I will post the results here in a fairly raw format but we can start discussing a template for releasing our information in a more user-friendly format for general consumption too.

Something that contains the image, pet name, litter name, the rarity % per litter, if it's doable the % across litter but will need to check if the rerelease data is sufficient for such a comparison first, whether the rarity is statistically different compared to its littermates, example adoption #s (like that Sorbet eg from last page where if you adopted 8 you get 2 of each colour). That sort of info, nicely formatted. Would also like to set up a nice spreadsheet for the full raw data dump for stat-interested users on top of the easy-to-read info. That's the forward plan right now, I think?

Edit: The link to the 2009 data isn't working for me? :c

@Dadwarf Thanks! 8D
I'm pretty sure the data is for the new list, although I'm not too sure what the next steps are (nvm -- Solloby has a plan!). Data collection is super straightforward, unlike stats and stuff >_>

@nickjr Oh yikes you're right! I thought I had them under the same litter name, but I forgot a word in the Angel Advent's litter >.>;

Here are the fixed spreadsheets:
Advent + Rerelease 2008 https://www.dropbox.com/s/9drabzeuedcfm ... .xlsx?dl=0
Rerelease 2009 https://www.dropbox.com/s/ywbfc72xqn0yi ... .xlsx?dl=0

As for the blue light stripe... maybe that outcome was never rereleased in 2008? It came back in 2009 o_O
The pet total is exactly 10,000, so I don't think the script missed any.

Your guide is exactly what I need! Awesome bookkeeping o.o

I created a spreadsheet that has numbers from both 2008 and 2009 rereleases: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dz6x1vqhxjp78 ... .xlsx?dl=0

There is probably an easier way to compare the rereleases @_@;

@Solloby

I think we should definitely try to get data for all the rereleases, because of the UR pets. It might take a bit though because there's a surprising amount of manual work involved (most of it is finding/saving images of the pets QQ).

I was fixing the angel advent litter and wrangling with excel, the files are linked above :D

would be weird if there was no blue light stripe rereleased in 2008 o__o just to double-check, will your script pick up the blue light stripe to begin with, or is it not picking them up and instead thinking they're deleted? You can test with my blue light stripe, ID 25559711
edit2: wait that doesn't make sense since your script picked them up for the 2009 rerelease... wat. okay idk it was just that one rerelease that it didn't show up, I hope LOL

edit: moved edit to next page

Yeah, it's very strange... Your pet got marked as 90 correctly. Also, it's able to identify blue light stripes in rerelease 2009, so I'm thinking it was accidentally left out? xD;

That's so random lol can't think of any reason they'd be left out lolol okay I hope it was just that one small rerelease lololol

it could make sense... maybe
If pets were manually added to the rerelease set, it's possible to leave one out accidentally. It's really weird to leave out one random pet from a giant litter though lol

I guess we'll never know LOL but I guess it would make sense for a giant litter since you're probably on autopilot for a big litter after adding a few outcomes (compared to adding, say, the BEG and CEG--you'd probably notice if one of those didn't get added, right lol)... I'd think that pets are added by litter ID or something rather than individual outcome ID, though. idk it was 2008 anything could've happened lol and back then, we didn't particularly miss the October 2008 pets :'D it was the last month of no adoption limits before Tess started headdesking at people's numbers of pets lolol

That would be strange as well since the blue light stripe is literally the only pre-advent pet to not appear in rerelease 2008, according to the data--and IIRC we actually thought the blue light stripe was among the rarer of that 9-outcome litter (think I saw it in a really old rarity guide? Yours maybe lol I think you made one ages ago)
