What are duster bats?
Duster bats are large members of the bat family that are typically two two feet tall when leaning back on their legs. Their legs are better developed than their smaller cousins and allow them to walk, stand and run more efficiently However, with their greater size and weight, they had to sacrifice their ability to fly. Rather than achieving "true flight", duster bats can hover and use their elliptical wings to maneuver through tight spaces with ease and great acrobatic skills! Their flight can be compared to that of a chicken's.

Duster bats have been domesticated and bred to have hypoallergenic fur that bears almost no smell. They are also very playful and cuddly! They are popular for the wool-like fur they have on their chest and tails, as well as their saliva! Their saliva is found in some products like glue, hair gel, cleaning wipes, and more! Duster bats are obsessed with cleanliness and neatness, and will always be organizing anything their can get their toes or fangs on -- pens, hair bands, clothes, etc. They are also constantly cleaning themselves.....and their owners. Taking hours to put makeup on or style your hair will probably be all for nothing once your duster bat notices you "look dirty" and "need to be cleaned". You'll need to get used to getting covered in sticky saliva.

Duster bats are omnivorous creatures that most often eat fruit and plant material as well as insects and small creatures such as mice. In the wild, they are more carnivorous and will hunt larger prey such as rabbits and even birds. Domestic duster bats are often fed a large variety of fruits and vegetables such as lettuce, berries, citrus, carrots and alfalfa or timothy hay. They must also occasionally be fed meat - small portions of poultry, mealworms, or eggs will do. Duster bats are curious creatures though, so don't be surprised to find your bread or cookies all over the kitchen floor. You can't get mad at that beady, shiny little face though, can you?

Duster bats have very keen senses and are very intuitive of their surroundings and their owner. If they sense that you aren't feeling well, they will try to comfort you by snuggling up to you, "cleaning" your face, or bringing you little trinkets from their item cache. (There's the watch you "lost", and your favorite hair band...) Duster bats are also favored as pets due to their quiet nature (in terms of the noises that come from them, not the sound of objects being knocked down from counters and shelves). They only make small chirps and squeaks, and purr when content. If they want your attention or food, they'll SCREAM wheek like guinea pigs!
