alright, so, being the idiot I am I forgot to bring this up before the rp started but better late than never >.<
So ever since I came up with her story I've been toying with the idea of having Mia be kind of a prisoner on the ship. Okay, prisoner is a strong word, I mean the crew has now known each other for six years so it's a bit different but just hear me out okay? Mia was never supposed to be on the BOTU in the first place, she was a stow away. Incarna and I already determined that Icarus doesn't like Mia and Mia isn't too fond of him either, so, if the crew feels like he's in charge she'd probably be sort of an honorary prisoner I suppose (like I said they would've loosened up after 6 years unless they really didn't like her cx).
I know I'm rambling. Here's what I'm really getting at. Would any one playing a BOTU crew member have an issue with Mia being a sort of prisoner on the ship? Incarna already said the ship may be equipped with a small cell or two so, since it's probably got all the bedrooms booked, so to speak, she'd probably sleep there. Obviously how your characters interact with her/their personal opinions are totally still open to being anything regardless of her official status but it seemed best to run it by the crew first. c:

xveca comes from planet where order fell
apart. for the longest time the elders regain-
ed power, and all her species followed the
straight and narrow that had been laid out
for them centuries beforehand. as times
changed, civilizations advanced while her's
remained lagged behind. many foresaw war
breaking out due to angry and fed up citizens
lashing out, as well as intruders with farther
advanced weaponry attempting to overrule
their colonies.

xveca's father sent her away while he prepared to fight the oncoming war, hoping that she could start a new life elsewhere. sending her away, he really had no decision where. it was more of where she happened to end up, and he prayed to the stars that she would land somewhere within the next few orbits. that she did, however she unluckily arrived on earth.

xveca is rather protective of herself, considering she's on a completely different planet. interacting with other people won't always come easily for her, and she'll appear rather timid to others. fortunately, she can communicate with them since she was taught multiple languages as a child. her english is broken, and it takes her a few moments to understand everything spoken. besides being bewildered by earth and it's inhabitants, she values humor and humility among her peers.

tyler somehow managed to survive admist the
chaos, which is even a surprise to him. panick
causes people to do the craziest things when
they lose a sense of control over their lives.
tyler survived the nuclear fallout by taking
shelter in his neighbor's bomb shelter, when
the bombs tore apart earth. he regularly goes
on the surface to loot and recover items for
their everyday needs.

tyler swears he has seen "creatures" lurking through rubble, however he isn't sure if that's his imagination playing him or not. all he knows is that he will always carry his blades with him. yeah, they may only be mere throwing knives, but it's better than nothing.

tyler tends to be cautious when he's on the surface, and doesn't take too kindly towards other survivors, especially if they're looking for extra supplies or a safe haven. everyone is in need, and he feels as if everyone needs to do their part to take care of themselves and whoever they decide to survive with. this can sometimes make him come off as rude or abrasive, while he is actually a teddy bear for those close to him.

Summary of first (long) post…

Upon entering through The Gates of New York, Sugar was chased away from a warm fire by an old lady. Certain she was being followed, she entered what turned out to be a tavern, not for eating or drinking, but a meeting place for making deals. Sugar offered the keeper a can of sardines and he directed her to Jo’s to find possible work and lodging for the winter.

Out on the street, a kid stops Sugar and tells her that Jo’s isn’t safe and the men at the bar were messing with her. He is precocious and asks a lot of questions. He obviously has connections and says he can help her so she cooperates. Eventually, he leads her to what may have once been a jail or detention center. It’s dubious, but she doesn’t feel threatened. The kid disappears and she is questioned by a man in an office for hours about her past and her skills. It is all strictly voluntary. She is told she is being “interviewed” and if she is accepted, she will be certain of survival, but she is free to leave at any time.

After the interview she is shown to a cell with a bed, table, chair, paper, pencil, small heater, blankets and told they will be back when they have made a decision. Sugar gets the feeling she is being watched. She almost leaves, but it is getting dark and she has nowhere to go. When she goes back to her cell, there is food waiting which she suspects is drugged, but it’s not. In the morning, eventually, a girl brings her food again, but she doesn’t speak English and just gestures for her to stay. Again, Sugar feels she is being watched.

"Sugar looked at the open cell door and wondered for the hundredth time whether or not she should just leave. She knew better than to try to spend the winter out, alone. And she'd kind of cut it close. Snow would start soon. She had a limited amount of time to make a connection of some kind, in a city she knew nothing about. Frankly, she was probably lucky that that kid had offered to help.

Well, she was indoors and she was fed. She wasn't a prisoner, exactly. What did she have to lose?"

so y'all can get a better sense of things when you write. Subways are flexible because they're basically everywhere by 2151, but not all places are electrically powered - mostly, they're there for the tunnels. The only bridges you can cross by walking are those that you can see with white lines from one point to the other. The top Gates shown connect to the rest of NY and the Bronx.

Some factoids, too:


On Earth, food is scarce and most popular form of food is canned foods. Some hunt wild animals when they can, but there is a higher risk of getting radiation poisoning. A very small group of scientists have banded together and tried to start a farming solution (that is where Snuggle Puppy's Cayley is), but it is far from becoming sustainable unless a miracle happens.

Winter is coming! *GOT references* Temperatures reach 10 degrees in early November and by January they will drop much lower, below 0 (Fahrenheit). It can start snowing any time, and white-outs from blizzards are not uncommon. In these rough times, it is not uncommon to see people abandoning their morals. Many make their way indoors at this point - some flee to the Subways' underground tunnels that some survivors have connected to backup generators (some parts are lit, not all), and did some repairs on. Dying from the cold is probably as likely as dying from radiation at this point.

Many plants have died or mutated, though some remain. The radiation affects all life forms differently; the most susceptible probably died early on. This also creates mutations like two-headed animals (such as the deer from 'The 100'), affects human babies, and can cause some plants to die and others to grow at incredible rates and destroy manmade structures.

For survival reasons, small groups with 'governments' or leaders have formed. There's a bit of anarchy, but it depends who you're around. The Gates are mostly places where such groups/wanderers threaten newcomers, or each other, but if you're savvy you might be able to get some info or deals made.
