It had been a while since Cerys had struggled to smile, but after spending all day being relentlessly poked and jabbed by needles, ones optimism tends to wear down a bit. The guards gripping at her already bruised biceps didn't help any, and even though she could have easily thrown them off, Cerys knew such actions would only result in punishment. And so she endured as she was unceremoniously dragged outdoors and dropped into the edge of the field. After a stumble, she righted herself, sticking her tongue out at the guards - what was she, five?- and hurrying over to sit next to Jocelyn.
As the blonde took a seat next to her delicate friend, she pasted on a sunny smile, her voice chirping like a song bird,
"Good morning dearie! Hope I didn't keep you waiting for too long." Even with her chipper words, one couldn't help but notice the bandages around her fingers and lining her forearm, and the dark bruises forming on her shoulders and back. They clashed with the white cotton tank top and matching shorts that Cerys typically wore for experiments. Still, her smile was bright and genuine. Cerys had always been a hearty believer that even in the worst of times, a smile was necessary.
"What did they put you through today? The scientists had me running experiments on pain tolerance, or something like that. They kept muttering some scientific gibberish, I only got like one of every five words." Cerys offered a small chuckle, as if she were simply discussing the weather, [
removed]. Even so, it explained the ugly bruises.
