Name;; Reis
Gender;; male
Who have they encountered? ;;

Reis stood at the edge of the cliff, his eerie eyes slicing through the dark depths of the gorge before him. His voice came, like a roll of thunder from within his throat. "Why won't you come? I've followed the Ancient Path! What do you have against me?" It was almost a snarl. He had come so far, only to be denied what he had dedicated the past five years of his life towards finding. Or, more accurately, meeting. He closed his eyes, his paws trembling. Why? I've come this way for you! Because... Now anger took over. Moisture formed in the male's eyes. They knew full well why Reis had traveled such a difficult path, yet they refused to appear.

A wind blew, neither cold or warm bur carrying a heavy weight with it as it ran across his pelt. Reis' head shot up, and he looked around, his expression now alert. "I knew you would come!" His paws shifted the rubble beneath him, causing a few stones to tumble into the abyss. A voice whispered in Reis' ears, and his joy quickly faded.

"You shouldn't have come here."

"Why not?" Confusion spread on his muzzle.

"I cause nothing but pain. It is not your Fate." Something similar to pain trickled into the voice. "It is not... our Fate."

Reis' confusion swapped itself with a smirk. "You know I don't believe in Fate."

"Don't let my brother hear you say that."
He could almost see the wry grin upon his visitor's face, smell her scent and taste her taste. Almost. But she drifted away from him. The wind blew again, swirling into the canyon. It concentrated into a three foot area, the spot darkening as a shape slowly formed. Reis'heartbeat sped up, booming against his chest and struggling to escape his mortal body. He recognized those soft, dark ears, those stormy grey eyes. It was her. Reis smiled, but she did not return the gesture.

"Death." he said her name slowly, carefully, as if testing the way the words left his mouth. "We met many years ago. You took my sister away from us. You took my father away from us. My brother is close to joining. But I am not here for them." Reis paused, readjusting his foothold. He took a breath before continuing. "And after years of searc-"

"Please, Reis,"
Reis snapped his jaws shut, meeting Death's eyes, her beautiful eyes, with his own. He could now see the agony inside of them. It both hurt him and heightened his joy. She still cares... "No need for formalities. I am aware of why you've come." Death floated across the chasm, towards Reis. He nodded slowly, his eyes focused on hers. "But you shouldn't have." The female abruptly turned away.

Reis' heart fell. He closed his eyes, swallowing the lump in his throat. "Why?!"

Death smiled sadly. Oh, her sweet, sweet smile. Why did she tease Reis so? They both knew full well that it wasn't possible for the two of them. "You're still alive."

"Then kill me. I would rather spend eternity dead if I can't..."
It was difficult to speak. "If I can't love you. Because I do. I do love you."

Pain speead on Death's face. "You know I can't."

"You can't or you wo-" Reis stepped forewords, towards the one he ached for. But he has forgotten his location, forgotten the danger in front of him. His paw landed on nothing bit air, and Reis felt himself slide off the cliff edge and into the darkness. The last thing he heard was Death screaming his name Then the darkness enveloped him.

"Reis!" The single screeched echoed from Death's jaws. She dropped, allowing her semiphysical form to drop alongside Reis as he fell. "Wake up!" She wailed, but Death knew that the force of the air against the male had caused him to pass out. The ground was rushing towards them- Death could sense when a new spirit was about to join her ranks. But not Reis. Anyone but Reis.

It came with a thump. Death hovered a few inches off the ground, her eyes clamped shut. She didn't want to see the body of her lover thrown across the ground like some animal, abandoned and unloved. A sob bubbled from her chest as she lifted her eyelids, resting her gaze upon him.

The sob built up.

Death began to cry.

She curled up around Reis' body, resting her head on his neck and pressing her muzzle into his cheek. Her tears dripped into his fur, creating little streams across his face, almost as if he was crying as well. "I love you." Death whispered. At that moment, Death felt nothing but contempt for her job. This was what she did to others? How did they bear it, not just once but so many times throughout their lifetimes? Her sniffled had slowed, but just thinking about the male next to her made Death want to wail in raw agony, wail at eventhing shd was and is and would be. This wasn't supposed to happen. This was why she had left him in the first place.

Memories of him rushed back. Of when they first met, when Death had come to take his injured sister. Reis was young at the time, but he hadn't been scared. The little pup had... smiled at Death, bid her a farewell and told her to take good care of his sister. No one had ever smiled at Death before. Usually, she was met with thrown things, grinding teeth and loud yells. When she came for his father, Reis again bid her goodbye and told her to take care of him well. Death left with his father, confused.

And then, Reis' brother had been struck by a boulder and badly wounded. Death had floated by his bedside, waiting for when she was needed. Suddenly, Reis was there, older now. "You're going to take him?" Death nodded slowly. "He's all I have left. Please give him more time." Death blinked. That was different than what he usually said. Death wasn't allowed to obey pleas for mercy, but... this was from someone who welcomed her. She didn't know why, but she nodded, and turned to leave. "Uh- wait!" Reis called her back. Now Death was confused. "Do you want to go to the Festival tonight? Uh- with me?"

Not knowing why, Death nodded.

The Festival was a week-long celebration, starting at sundown and ending at sun-up each day. Death tagged behind Reis for the entire first night, watching the preformances. She wasn't sure if she was supposed to do anything, but Reis seemed content to just have her around. As the sun began to peek over the horizon, Death whispered a goodbye. Reis quickly turned. "The Festival isn't over yet, silly... There's still 6 days left! If you want, we have an extra room in my house... if you need a place to stay." Death blinked. Again, no one had ever offered that to her before. She smiled and nodded.

On the second night, Reis had bought some kind of sweet, doughy treat. He held it out to Death. "This is for you." Reis grinned as he handed Death the dessert. Eying it curiously, she slowly took a bite. It was delicious! Death couldn't help but smile as she tasted it. Eating wasn't necessary for Death, as she was immortal, so she didn't often taste things that took from the living. After a bite or two, she handed it back to Reis, who seemed satisfied. Again, as the sun cane up, Reis offered her a room in his family house. This continued for the rest of the week.

The last night of the festival arrived, and Death knew that she could no longer stay. She had to get back to her duties. It made the night bittersweet. Morning was fast approaching, and Reis led Death to an empty patio, where he took a seat. "There's a firework show when the sun rises," he explained as Death pulled a chair up next to him. "And some say it's the most beautiful in all the land!" Death kelt her eyes trained on the sky, eagerly awaiting the bursts of color. Because of her job, Death rarely got to live and experience the things that most others did. Death had always loved fireworks. Bursts of color appeared along the sky, and she couldn't hold back a gasp. They really were some of the most beautiful in the land.

Reis wrapped his arm around her shoulders, and Death turned her head to look at him, confused. She would never truly understand mortal ways. Reis' eyes glowed, and Death could hear his heartbeat. But... there were two? It took Death a moment to realize that the second was her own. Death realized why she was so happy to just be around the male. It was a strange feeling, but not unwelcome. She leaned towards Reis, and the two met in a kiss.

"Stop!" Death yelled, breaking the memory and squeezing her eyes shut. "Why are you showing me this now?!" No answer. Typical. Memory hated speaking. Instead of replying, her sister just tried to shove the memory back into Death's mind.

A voice on the wind whispered into her ear. It was her brother. Bound by mortal ties, break Death and break Fate. Death shoved it to the back of her mind. Her brother could wait.

The female gasped. "The prophecy!" A soft glow surrounded Reis' body, and Death leaped back. It lit up the bottom of the crevasse, casting into every nook and cranny. Reis began to lift up. The color returned to his body. A loud sucking noise emitted from his jaws as he gulped air, and his eyes snapped open. "Reis!" Death stood and ran to the male, throwing her arms around him. Sobs spilled out of the female again, but this time in relief.

Reis seemed shocked. "What happened...?" He looked around. "Ehy are we at the bottom of a- oh my claws, did I FALL?!" His eyes trailed the far edge of the cliff, high above their heads. "How am I not dead?!"

Death just hugged him tighter.

xxxxRocks cut into paw pads that were much to used to the
soft spring grasses of the earth. The air this high up seemed so
thin, but there was no turning back now. With a shake of his h
ead he continued the steep climb, it was only a couple hundre
d more feet to the top after all.
xxxxThought of questions unanswered suddenly vanished as
the rock he had been climbing up came loose. Enlil rolled a fe
w feet with the boulder; thankfully he came to a stop on a cli

closed till he felt a gentle nudge against his shoulder. With no
little effort he opened his eyes to see a bright creature before
him. "Why did you come here." Less of a question more of a
    statement.
xxxxIce blue eyes stared hard at th

. "Anu?" The light looked back at him almost in a curious wa

had made this journey to put a rest to his childhood stories. Th
is hadn't been a real thing he expected. "Will you return with me?"
The words were out his mouth before he knew what he said.
xxxxA light airy laugh filled the air
like crisp morning fog. "No small child we live different lives now.,"
without warning the paw of the creature reached out covering
him in the warm glow. It was too bright though, and he involu
    ntarily closed his eyes.
    "Good bye young brother."

xxxxWith a start he woke up movin
g to his paws and looking around wildly. "Anu!" As he came back to
his senses he realized he stood in the moor land of his home. "..Anu?"
Sitting down he looked around dumbly. His body ache like he
had traveled miles, but he sit in his usual resting place. He c
losed bright blue eyes visualizing Anu again. He could see hi
m with such clarity it just had to be real. That couldn't have
been a dream! Could it? Had Anu called him brother? As he
thought the memories began to distort. No what was he thin
king of course that was a dream. Enlil laughed at himself fo
r almost believing in kit stories. Still though that feeling tha
