Cedarfeather grew up as a loner, with only her mother and brother to keep her company. She had some knowledge of herbs before joining the clan, knowledge most loners don't have. This is because her great grandmother was once a medicine cat in a clan, and her knowledge was passed down through her family after she was kicked out for having kits. Cedarfeather's mother noticed her own affinity for herbs, and often told her she'd be a great medicine cat if she was to join a clan. Her family, however, did not know of Starclan. Cedarfeather's great grandmother felt betrayed by starclan, and never spoke of them. Cedarfeather's life wasn't easy, however. She and her family lived in the forest, so they had to hunt for their own and evade predators. Thankfully, if ever any one got injured, they could be patched up. After years living in the forest they came across a cat who claimed to be the deputy of a shattered clan. He asked if they would join him. The family of three accepted, they felt they'd be safe, and despite the banishment of the great grandmother, they had a sense they belonged in a clan. The deputy noticed Cedarfeather's ability to use herbs and questioned why. Once Cedarfeather explained, he decided she would be the clan's medicine cat, and held a naming ceremony for the cat who was previously Cedar.
