Goddess Information wrote:Patron Goddess ;; Orial was the patron goddess of prosperity, vengeance, and sunsets/sunrises.
Status ;; Orial was killed, but due to her status as a goddess, she was brought back to life as a mortal. Despite this, it is a punishment instead of a blessing. Orial has all of her memories of her time as a goddess, although she didn't really feel that she was such, since she was not truly immortal. She also has not retained very many of her powers that she retained as a goddess, which has made her realize how much she took for granted.
Sacred Animal ;; Orial's animal of choice when it came to representing herself was the fox. She had one of her own which was two-headed, about as large as a small rainbow paint wolf, and immortal unless killed by a dire. She would at times use her as a messenger or to pull her chariot. Both heads were girls, with Edes being orange and Polous being gray. Now that she is a mortal, she is not sure what has happened to them. She hopes that they are wondering free, not tied to captivity under someone else or - even worse - killed.
Sacred Plant ;; Orial's plant was the blue rose, which were formed under the first sunrise that she ever painted. She treasures them and is rather possessive, which is why they are so rare and hard to grow. If you do not have her blessing or favor when growing them, then she is likely to kill them as well as punish you.
Summoning ;; Orial is not someone that many would want to summon. Despite being the goddess of prosperity, earning her favor wasn't something that could be done easily, and summoning her would be far more likely to result in causing her wrath to rain down on you. Even with her favor or blessing, Orial still could turn on you in an instant, as she did not appreciate being summoned like a pet. The only safe way to summon her was to capture Edes and Polous, and even then she would still be waiting for a chance to enact her revenge. If you could get your hands on some blue roses, it could help smooth out the process, but depending on who you are, it could make things worse.
Story of Death wrote:To get to the end of the story, one should always look to the beginning. For things such as endings and beginnings are always a loop, always connecting to each other. For this particular story, it began and ended in the rain.
Vatia was born in the rain, one of the hardest her village had ever experienced. The others spoke in harsh whispers as the birth dragged on. It was an omen, they said, an omen of death and destruction. An ending pronounced over them. When her mother died as she finally came into the world, it was like a match had finally struck. The other villagers were whipped up into a frenzy, muttering again and again about how she was nothing but bad luck and trouble. They urged her father to get rid of her, even threatening him that they would do so themselves if he didn't.
However, he obliged. They left her in the wood to die as nothing more than a defenseless pup. Since she was born in winter, it was far more likely that she would freeze to death than be killed by a wild animal, although anything was possible. However, as the storm ended, she was found and saved by what other wolves called the gods.
She was rescued and raised up among them. They were the ones to name her Orial, and she was raised to see that while some called her adoptive family gods, they were anything but. They were not perfect. They were not creatures to be idolized. But they were her family. Powerful family, with powers that could not be understood. That was why they were said to be gods. It was the only thing others could do to explain their powers, and the dires saw no reason to correct them.
And so Vatia grew. She was taught to harness the abilities that those villagers had sensed upon her birth, finding that they were what had caused them to respond in such a fashion. The villagers could sense the power coming from her, and they could not understand it. It led her on a path of terrible destruction as she obliterated the town from existence. All but one, lowly wolf who was revealed to have tried to stop them. For that wolf, she granted them great prosperity. It was in that fashion that she began to develop her name as a goddess among other villages that still believed such things, but she was quite aware that she was not one. Her powers - and granted half immortality - all came from her adoptive family, or at least the use of them did.
Over the years, Vatia had hardened from what she was. Family tensions had risen, and everyone was mistrustful. Times were no longer pleasant on their hill. She watched with a watchful eye, careful to make sure that no one was there to stab her in the back. However, she did not watch carefully enough. A mob of wolves stirred up from a nearby village attacked her house, but she ignored them, knowing they could do nothing to her.
However, one stranger crept to her room, filling her ears with whispers of greatness. Stroking her pride, they talked and talked, dropping Vatia's guard further and further and blinding her to the attack going on downstairs. Finally, the stranger struck, catching Vatia completely unaware.
As Vatia sunk to the ground, bleeding out, the one who loomed over her whispered to her through her smirk. "My name is Sephits. One of your family sent me. Apparently, you were getting out of hand with all your meddling among humans. I suppose messing with vengeance and prosperity can do that to you."
Then the assassin disappeared, and Vatia expected to die. However, in an unexpected twist of fate, her family found her and spared her. Yet Vatia would quickly find that if she had any hopes of this being a good thing, they needed to be dashed. Instead of this being an act of kindness, it was a punishment. They could not make her immortal to walk among them once again with her powers, but they could make her mortal. There were no guarantees as to how much of her power she would retain, and she had no say in the matter, as apparently they were bestowing it on her as a gift.
Vatia tried to protest the act, but before she could make any progress in doing so, she was lulled to sleep. When she awoke, she was in an unfamiliar place, lost and hurt. Rain poured down on her from above, and she did her best to ignore it. This was when she officially decided to toss away her true name, Vatia, and take on Orial. Anything to numb the idea of her time with her so-called family, even if she was now using the name they gave her.
She remembered the name of her killer, and she was determined to find her. This was the beginning of her journey. She met others along the way. A wizard who she'd known in her past. A pirate captain and their crew. A mute princess and her servant. An assassin with an intense hatred for the one she sought. However, those stories are stories for another time, as they truly are of another time.
