Change in Banana's Status in Archive?

So I've known I've been missing the '08 banana for a while now. I've been working on getting it and for no particular reason I decided to go through the archive again and double check that I wasn't missing any pets (last time I found a bunny that was missing).

Now when I looked at December 2008 it said I had the banana. I went OMG did it get merged? Tess had hinted that might happen. I don't have to stress out about getting it now!

However on my wishlist it said it was still missing so I checked the other years. Surprisingly under 2009 Special releases it said that I didn't have the banana. However one of bananas I have is dated 2009.

I don't have a problem with the 2008 banana counting differently then the rest, but I think it could be confusing for some people if the 'special' banana that must be dated '08 to count is found under 2009.

I don't know when this swap might have happened, I only noticed it today. Thank you very much for your time Tess/Nick/Other people who can explain what happened or if it's going to be fixed.

I just checked myself, and you're right. It shows under the 2008 that we own the banana, and yet under 2009 doesn't. I think it may just be a glitch with the archives; if you had the banana on your wishlist to begin with, the URs from 08/09 posted twice. I think it probably has to do with that.

That could be, I was wondering if Nick was editing something and accidentally swapped the codes. (Side note: I found a pet from '09 that I'm missing. I hate it when I go through the archive and find another pet I'm missing.... ARGH)

IF I recall correctly, on the original release, while all the "banana's" aged the same, there where in fact a few "outcomes" as far as the site is concerned. When it came time to archive them one one outcome was put on the list, since they all "turned out the same" but the site STILL thinks they are different. (and if added it would just show several bananas that all look the same, confusing people *more*)

So if you have one of the outcomes that isn't the one achieved, it will show as missing, even though you do in fact have a banana.

It's not tied to if it's a original or re-release, but rather if it's the "outcome" that wasn't archived or not.

"It says I don't have the banana but I do" - this problem will always be there, although there are no visible differences between the bananas, there is actually more than one 'kind' of banana out there. It is not intentional and the bananas are identical in every way - it's just the way our system works. It'll always recognise them as seperate pets. It doesn't mean that your banana isn't a real banana, it just happens to have been adopted at a different time to the one we archived.

Yep, there have always been two bananas due to a slight problem with one being different to the program, but not really different. Now, does it really matter so much if you have one banana over another, as long as you have a banana?

It's the -same- issue though, at least the way you explained it. Even if it was adopted in 2009, it can STILL show up as a 2008 or all other re-releases wouldn't show up on WL's.

Tess has started there is a -direct- issue with how the Banana was archived, that at times makes them show up, or not at all, in the wrong places.
There is NO difference between the 2008 and 2009, just the way the system see it's "outcome". There is nothing saying the 2008 outcome didn't show up in the re-release, thus a 2009 would show up in the 2008 WL as gotten even if the *date* doesn't match.

This is because currently the outcome displayed under 2009 is the one from 2008. I'm just worried about someone getting confused....

The banana from 2009 just needs to be switched with the one from 2008. That way people can tell what year/date they are actually missing.

I understand your point but it's a issue that is already known and in the linked post, it states it won't be fixed.

My guess would be, because IF they moved it to 2008, then there will be two outcomes listed, and people will get just as upset about having "one of the two" listed in 2008 and obsess there MUST be a difference, even though they look exactly the same, and go on a quest to find the "second" banana that is on their WL that they do not have.

Be it in 2008, 2009, or 2020, if it's listed twice it will always drive people aiming for a complete list crazy

It's one of those things that you can't probably get as a "full" set in the terms that you want, but if you have one banana then you know you have the banana and that's all you really need to have if that's what you're aiming for.

If it's just because you want to have every single pet on the wishlist, regardless of how many times it shows up because of some archive malfunction (like if the banana shows up new every single year) then there's really nothing anyone can do for you. You'll just have to deal with it, because I don't think there's any way to fix it yet.
