Lynxtooth found himself walking alone through the thick underbrush. The sound of the river took hold of his senses, and as he walked he sighed.
Everything that had been happening was terrible- first, the death of his brother-in-law, then the exile of a cat he wasn't sure was the culprit.. what would happen next?
As his thoughts clouded his mind he felt his paws taking him towards the river. As he moved out of the underbrush, he could hear someone weeping not too far down stream. He angled his ears in that direction, looking to see in the distance. He could see Beaverpaw, next to... a body. He felt his heart stop for a moment. A body?
He raced down to Beaverpaw, the blood ringing in his ears. He stopped as soon as he saw who it was- Morningdove.
"W-what-" He could barely make out his question, feeling his paws shake. He crouched next to Beaverpaw, pressing his muzzle into his fur to comfort him.
Who would do something like this?

Pikestream gazed around the territory, relishing the feeling of being outside camp. She always needed an escort to take walks outside, and many warriors had little time to lead an elder around for a self-indulgent stroll. Lilypool was kind enough to offer her to come along on her many herb searches. "Got any herbs in mind?" she asked, tasting the air. She could never get how medicine cats could identify different herbs; they all smelled the same to her. Pikestream then hesitated, slowed her pace.
"Ah, I smell Lynxtooth around," she commented, absentminded in tone. She couldn't find any herbs, but she could always catch the scent of her children.

"That's not strange, may be hunting, but I smell death also," Lilypool murmured, groaning. "Guess herbs are going have to wait, seems like I might be needed again," she laughed. Following the scent, she saw Lynxtooth and Beaverpaw around Morningdove's body. "No!" she yowled, trying to stay calm seeing her brother dead.

Beaverpaw turned his head to the side as he heard Lynxtooth aproaching. Without thinking twice he launched himself with a mournful wail onto his best friend - who frankly was starting to feel like more than just a friend. Beaverpaw look up into Lynxtooth's eyes his own misted this tears. "W-what am I going to do!? I'm so close to finishing my training, b-but now... now my mentor is dead!"
Beaverpaw jumped in fright, anxiety over his mentor's death making him paranoid. It was only Lilypool and Pikestream, "Lily!" He screeched, "Save him! Save Morningdove!"

Gingerstar | molly | leader | tags: open
Gingerstar woke, shaking off a feeling of dread. Starclan had spoke to her (or so it seemed), warning her of something terrible but she had woken up before she knew just what was to happen. She stretched and padded outside, grabbing a minnow from the fresh-kill pile. The camp seemed oddly empty, but perhaps everyone had already been assigned patrols.
The death of Finchpelt and the subsequent exile of Firefeather--her own brother--had hit Gingerstar hard. She hoped that she was right in suspecting her own brother, but she couldn't get the image of his terrified face out of her mind. She suspected that it would stay with her for the rest of her life, and maybe she deserved it for betraying her blood. But maybe they were right...

"Starclan," Pikestream mewed, her voice barely over a whisper. She had seen her fair share of dead bodies, of course, but the wailing of a mourning apprentice and sister made her shrink back. Goodness, she could only imagine what losing a sibling would be like. She hung back, letting the cats closer to Morningdove grieve in peace. The body appeared waterlogged, she noted, before looking away, and up to the brightening sky. She prayed to Starclan that this had nothing to do with yesterday's murder; she couldn't let herself believe that Riverclan would turn out like this.

Lynxtooth felt his heart skip a beat-
He turned to his mother and the medicine cat, still comforting Beaverpaw. He felt tears in his eyes as he wrapped his tail around the apprentice. "I- I don't think she can, Beaverpaw.. he's-" It hurt him to say it, "He's in Starclan now."
All he wanted to do was comfort his friend- he couldn't bear seeing him like this.
He knew Morningdove to be strong, and he knew he couldn't drown. This was something else- he knew there was foul play.
He swore silently to himself that he would protect Beaverpaw- because he loves him.
And that was enough to set him on a mission.
Whoever did this, would meet his vengeance.
He was going to avenge both Morningdove, and Finchpelt.
He just didn't know how.

His words stung, they hurt... But deep down inside Beaverpaw knew they were true. There was nothing Lilypool could do to save him. Because being dead, it means there's no saving you.
Despite this Beaverpaw accepted Lynxtooth's attempts to comfort him leaning into his touch. Slowly he entwined his tail with Lynxtooth's own. Maybe they could get over this unlucky turn of events... together.
"Alright," Beaverpaw nodded. "I-I think we should move the body. Morningdove deserves better than to rot out here by the river being pecked at by the birds and scavenged by the badgers." Beaverpaw looked to Lynxtooth,"Will you help me carry him?"
