CHAPTER 1 • Illness Strikes the Crown
Weather • Partially cloudy, 76 degrees Fahrenheit, windy
Time • Sunset, 7:00 PM
Closest Prey • Fish are feeding in sea, easy meal

swanfeather arryn
female // 108 moons // high queen // horizonclan // tags; clan
─────────────────────────────────────────────────
      xxx
      She was curled up in the Maester's den, breathing shallow and lacking the luster of her youth. The ivory of her fur stood out in the gloom, catching the rays of the setting sun as it descended towards the horizon. A single, weak cough rocked her whole body in a spasmodic motion. Her eyes slowed opened after the fit, as if revealing a blooming rose grown in shade, instinctively knowing the clan would be waking soon. She had to put on a strong persona for the clan. There was a meeting that needed to be held, and the protests from her daughter and the healers would not stop her from completing this duty. House Arryn was on high alert knowing that her body was failing. Food had no appeal to her anymore. Water did not quench her thirst. She had come to an agreement with herself about the problematic symptoms, but her family needed her to keep pushing forward.
      xxx
      As Swan slowly pulled herself to her paws, she felt the world waver around her. It took her a moment to regain her senses, head sloped downwards to adjust her breathing. She would hold the meeting out on the beach today. The High Queen knew she would not make it to the top of the high arch without tipping over. A sigh escaped her, remembering the comforting scent of her deceased mate. Are you waiting for me up there? You seem impatient, but I need more time, she thought to herself, shaking her head in effect. The leader made her way towards the opening of the den made in the side of the cliffs surrounding the sheltered cove, reveling in the warmth of the sun that appeased her atrophied muscles. There were three new apprentices that she needed to acknowledge. Two were already nine moons, but the past three moons she had been nestridden with a strange illness. She was positive their House assigned them a temporary mentor while she was recovering, so she would merely make them official in a sense. This was the first time in a while that she had managed to get herself outside after all.
      "Please gather on the beach for the ceremonies," she began, feeling the enegy she had ebb away with each spoken word.

~~~~~~~~Halfjaw~~~Warden of The West, House Arryn~~~~Tags: Swanfeather~~~~~~~~~~
Claws sheathed and unsheathed, marking thin ditches in the cooling , soft sand. A long, black and silver tail brushed over the sand gently behind the massive tom cat.
Halfjaw could smell the salt-swept winds, as they gently blew sand around the cove that Horizonclan called their home. He watched as the pearl-white she cat, the queen of the clan, made her way slowly out of her den and through the clan, no doubt prepared to start a meeting for the clan. He watched as her muscles seemed to stretch harshly, struggling to keep the she-cat standing. Concerned for the she who was not only his queen, but his kin, the tom stood harshly and approached her. His grey-green eyes glared around the clearing for the Hand of the Queen, who did not seem to be present to aid in escorting her queen. Halfjaw approached Swanfeather, pausing to stretch one foreleg before him, dropping him to a deep bow at a fox-length away.
"Good Evening, my queen. Might I offer my assistance to the beach?" He asked, not rising from his bow.
~~~~~~~~Hornetpaw~~~~Squire of The East, House Helios~~~~~Tags: Open~~~~~~~

Almost there..... Almost there....
Hornetpaw leaped at the boulder, claws unsheathed. The seagull that he had been aiming at rose to the air with a loud cry, in shock. Hornetpaw laughed as the bird slipped from his grasp. He managed to scratch a groove into it's wing as it moved past him. continuing to laugh in excitement, he chased the seagull as it tried in vain to lift in the air, struggling under his sore wing. Eventually, it managed to get high enough away that Hornetpaw had no chance of catching it. He fell to the ground and rolled to his back, exhausted.

~~~~~~~~Emberthorn~~~~Knight of The North, House Stark~~~~~Tags: Open~~~~~~~~
Emberthorn sat on the beach side, watching the water carefully from just out of its grasp. She watched as a gull in the distance dropped to the water's edge to snatch a fish, before raising back up into the sky. The russet-furred she heard shuffling from far behind her, the noise of a being approaching the beach. She continued to lay where she was, her paws tucked neatly under her.
Quailpaw - Acolyte - Tagged: Swanfeather -
The young cat looked up from the bundle of herbs at her paws, tail twitching nervously in the dark. ''Ma'am?'' she called out, watching the queen lumber outside the aromatic den. Quailpaw noticed just how frail the beautiful queen was, her fur had long since lost its gleam and hung off her skinny frame like a dead mouse that hung from a knight's jaws. Quietly and wordlessly, she approached Swanfeather, watching her carefully. ''A-are you sure you're alright?'' Quailpaw inquired, frowning nervously. She'd tried every concoction possible to cure her illness but every single one of them failed. Not even her mentor, Spottedcloud, knew what to do!
Poppyfang - Knight - Tagged: Hornetpaw - Mentioned: Rabbitheart -
She barely heard Swanfeather's command, carried to her ears on a feeble breeze. Turning to face the queen, Poppyfang sighed uncertainly. The knight, as loyal as she was, did not believe that Swanfeather would be able to hold on for much longer. There would come a time where Echomoon would be the queen, and the time was drawing near. Flicking her tail thoughtfully, Poppyfang turned to the nursery. She wondered how Rabbitheart was doing and how her kittens were coming along. Getting to her paws, Poppyfang looked around, she was looking for her apprentice. Afterall she believed that everyone should be present to all clan meetings and that she was responsible for the actions of Hornetpaw. ''Excuse me...'' she murmured, bowing her head to Swanfeather before taking her leave. ''Hornetpaw...Hornetpaw!''
        Dogfang left the den, jaws gaping open in a yawn. Shaking the nest debris from his thin coat, his eyes flickered between a few cats, mainly Swanfeather and his daughter, Rabbitheart. His ears pinned back briefly as he watched his daughter clumsily walk toward the beach, about to chase her down and try to convince her to stay in the nursery, but decided against it. Shaking his head slightly, he approached Halfjaw and the queen, Swanfeather, bowing to the queen respectfully. "Good evening, Swanfeather, I'm glad to see you out today." He slowly raised back up, glancing between the Arryn House Warden and the queen."Do you mind if I tag along with you both to the beach?" Dogfang asked. He wanted to make sure Swanfeather got there without issue, but he didn't want to reveal that to her, for the sake of her pride and for the sake of being respectful for the older she-cat.
    Rabbitheart woke up as the sound of her queen's voice rung out in the clan, groaning softly. She was lying flat on her side. She wasn't heavy with kits yet, thankfully, but it had gotten to the point where it was uncomfortable to lay on her stomach. She glanced around the den, sighing softly. The quiet was nice, especially taking into consideration she wouldn't have silence for a while once the kits were born, but it did get lonely. At least there was Whitelightning and Moonblaze to ask for mothering advice when the kits do come around. In her most recent checkup with the maester, she was informed that her belly was rather small even at this stage. It either meant it would be a small litter [which she had been hoping for since the beginning of this whole ordeal] or they were slow-developing, which could bring a whole slew of problems.
    Finally gaining the motivation, she hauled herself to her paws, grooming her pelt as quickly as she could. Once that was finished, she hurried out of the den, noticing the other cats heading toward the beach. Her eyes settled on Swanfeather, who frankly, was looking worse and worse by the day. It broke her heart to see their great queen in such a state, but she held her in such high regard as she did her best to remain steady for the sake of the clan. The small tabby tore her gaze from the queen before she could seem rude, walking toward the beach as instructed, her gait starting to get a little awkward.
        Exhaustion fogged Duskfire's mind as he trudged along the beach, the cool waves lapping at his paws. He had woken up at late afternoon, being haunted by a nightmare that night. A nightmare about drowning, in fact. Occasionally, he glanced to the side at the ocean, making sure that no big wave was coming that could take him off guard. The tom not only struggled in swimming, he really couldn't swim at all. Oh well, it was just going to have to be a day where he would have to run on his own adrenaline, and hope he gets some rest in the morning. Ahead of him, he noticed some of his clanmates gathering. He found a spot among them, that was nice and dry, and settled down in silence, occasionally glancing at the other cats who were beginning to join in.
    Longfeather was an early riser compared to a few of his clanmates, as always. Making himself look proper for the day, rather, night, was important, which including a thorough grooming of his thick coat and picking out scraps of moss that might've tangled itself into his claws. Now, he was ready to go. He padded out of the den, carefully avoiding any cats that may still be sleeping, but as soon as he stepped foot outside, their queen called for a gathering. He was grateful to see Halfjaw approach the queen and offer help, as the idea of her walking to the beach on her own made Longfeather nervous. He didn't feel any friendly emotions toward most toms, but he could admit, he had great respect for Halfjaw.
    Deciding to leave the job to the Arryn Warden, Longfeather eagerly hurried to the beach, and soon noticed a pretty, thick-furred ruddy-brown she-cat nearby. With a certain strut, he approached her, offering a gentle smile and a polite, deep bow, his long tail elegantly sweeping the ground as he did. "Good evening, Emberthorn." He said with a content purr, standing up straight once more. "A meeting has been called by Swanfeather, do you mind if I sit beside you?"
She-cat // 29 moons // Warden of the East // House Helios // Tags: Swanfeather (Clan), Open
Moonblaze Helios was sitting alone in an area away from the rest of the cats of HorizonClan. She had her eyes closed, like a meditating cat who enjoyed the sound of the breeze and the feeling of nature brewing around her. She was quite enjoying herself, but when she heard Swanfeather call out for the clan to meet, she opened her eyes and calmly stood up from her seat. She looked around, hoping that nobody decided to skip out. Maybe some did skip out... Oh well, their choice then, she thought as she calmly made her way towards the beach where the ceremony was being held. Moonblaze looked around, her keen eyes making sure that no movement escapes her glare.
She had a talent for detective work and investigating crimes and events - it was her specialty. Moonblaze was pretty much the detective of the clan, though most cats probably don't think like that. She wanted the feel of an investigation again, the feeling of finding clues and evidence that could point her to the next step or possibly the true culprit... maybe even the truth of the matter. However, she didn't get any crimes or events that needed investigating, which brings her mood down all the way to boredom. Moonblaze did conduct exercises that could sharpen her skills, whether it were fighting skills, intellect skills, strategy skills, detective skills, etc., etc., etc. Once the Warden of the East arrived at the beach where the ceremony was being conducted, she sat down. "Looks like Swanfeather is still not feeling well. I wonder how she got that cold in the first place? I know it was cold outside, but still..." the she-cat mumbled to herself in a thoughtful manner. She looked up at the High Queen and listened for what was to come next.
(Alright. *sighs* Finished the first post. Woah, that was pretty long. c:)
The long-furred gray seal point hurried out of the den, not wanting to already to make a bad impression as she wasn't exactly used to the position yet. She made her way up to the queen, and the two wardens. Cloudstorm bowed to the queen respectfully, slowly standing onto her paws. She glanced over at the two wardens, before turning her gaze back to the queen. "My apologies, my queen."
The long-furred black tom stretched, before stepping out of his nest. He glanced at his pelt to make sure if it was free of moss, not bothering to groom it as it wound up being unkempt anyway. He noticed a piece of moss stuck to it, and put the piece of moss back into his nest. He padded out of the den, after barely hearing the queen call to the clan. Shadedriver automatically glanced around for his younger sister, Emberthorn, and soon spotted her with Longfeather. He narrowed his eyes at Longfeather, knowing that he could easily hurt her. You'd better pray to the sky up above that I don't come for you if you hurt her in any way.
Hornetpaw leaped to his paws enthusiastically at the sound of his mentor calling him.
"Coming, Poppyfang!" he called out. The tawny tabby Tom practically pronked across camp. His paws left many marks in the sand as he flew over, not noticing as he most likely sprayed a few cats in sand as he went. He approached his mentor and stopped, smiling to her.
Emberthorn looked up to face the cat who had approached her. "Ugh, did you have to pick a spot right next to me?" she joked, rolling her eyes teasingly. She sat up to make room, her tail hooked, signifying pleasure. "Sure, Longfeather. I can't wait to see what the meeting is about."
She noticed her brother across the clearing, glaring at Longwhisker. The She-Cat was in a good mood this morning, she decided. Maybe she'd tease her brother later, she'd see.
She looked over at her queen as the aged white cat approached.
      SPOTTEDCLOUD
      xxxshe-cat | 84 moons | maester | house tyrell | tagged- swanfeather, quailpaw, halfjaw, dogfang, everyone else
      ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
      spottedcloud had not been looking after herself. the drastic drop in the high queen's health since had left her working day and night, relentlessly searching for a cure. for all she knew about herbs and the familarity she shared with them, they were only barely holding up against the battle swanfeather fought. the queen served long and hard, well before most of the clan were born, but her pelt and nature during her time said otherwise. spottedcloud's own fur was clumped and matted, and tiredness clouded her deep brown eyes.
      looking at the curled figure seated in her den, what remained of the high queen's once-sleek pelt was a sickly shade of ivory. spottedcloud had done everything she could to find some solution to swanfeather's sickness, but nowadays, she was reduced to merely helping relieve some of her pains. not even food or water would satisfy the queen, but spottedcloud forced her to eat every time, arguing the same thing over and over that she had to keep up her strength. even if food didn't help with swanfeather's wellbeing, it would still benefit her body. hunger wouldn't help any more than in the state she was in now. a weak cough drew the maester's attention to her patient, who had already risen to her paws on straggling legs.
      "my queen." spottedcloud greeted quietly, bowing her head in the queen's presence. the calico followed as her queen made her way outside, gesturing for her apprentice quailpaw to follow, who looked on anxiously.
      the maester was greeted by a warm but darkening sky, and looked on at the rest of the clan mulling about. all were fearful for the health of the high queen. as swanfeather announced a gathering for horizonclan, spottedcloud quickly walked over to offer support.
      "horizonclan, give her room." she ordered, swishing her tail to clear space between the impending crowd of cats. she acknowledged the hand of the queen cloudstorm and wardens of house arryn and house stark with a respectful bow of her head, but her eyes still were hard for the sake of the queen's comfort.
      RAVENWING
      ─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
      upon hearing the voice of the high queen ring out with an announcement, ravenwing instantly noted the reduction of the strength swanfeather's voice used to hold. with her sickness, so little could be done to help, as admitted by the clan's maester. hiding the perpetual worry in his eyes, the black tom quietly padded his way over to the beach, where distant waves lapped lazily at the shore, the low tide nothing but a comfort to the clan's ears in the evening. his icy eyes intently watched as the high queen made her way towards the rock arch with the support of several concerned clanmates, including the hand of the queen herself. ravenwing's tail flicked with anticipation. was this meeting the possible bearer of bad news? he hoped with all his might not.
      Though her vision was not what it used to be, the swift approach of Halfjaw caught her attention almost immediately. She paused in her journey to the main beach clearing, politely waiting for him to catch up with her. Swan noted his bow with a formal sweep of her plumy tail. The aged queen was pleased with Halfjaw for his traditional approach. She respected those that stuck with the original matters of courtesy, knowing all-too-well that the youngest ones in the clan probably have not received formal greeting training to be used when addressing superiors. She dipped her head as a greeting in return, which also concluded that he was able to rise from his stance. Swan knew that someone would come running as soon as they saw her leave the Maester's den. She had not informed the Maester, Acolyte, or even her Hand that she was going to hold a meeting. If she felt well enough to conduct one, then she did not want to wait long enough for the momentary sensation to leave her. It was only a matter of time before the coughs would slowly destroy her ability to perform her queenly duties. "I have been meaning to speak with you and the other Wardens about this meeting anyway," she spoke up, not directly stating whether or not she needed help reaching the beach. It was, indeed, a matter of pride. Swan wanted to accept the assistance from her kin, but she knew that others were watching. Knowing the clan, the news of her meeting and the fact she was not hosting it above the archway was going to be the gossip of the night.
      xxxSwanfeather half-turned towards Spottedcloud and Quailpaw as they approached, ears flattening to her skull in an apologetic manner. "My apologies for not warning you of my absence. I am feeling well enough to hold a meeting," she paused, feeling a shiver course through her body as the coughing sensation fluttered in her chest. She was thankful for the pair for all their dedication in solving her illness, but Swan knew that it was a hopeless cause. This unknown disease was caused by her lengthening age. It slowly broke down her lungs piece by piece, attacking other organs along with it. It would not be long before it reached her heart where she could only submit to the unknown. She was proud to be in the care of two of the most intelligent healers she had ever met in her lifetime. Swan could never voice her thankfulness for their constant assistance, but she hoped House Arryn would voice their debts to House Tyrell when she passed over. Swan gave an earnest, appreciative smile towards Spottedcloud for her efforts to clear a path. The matters had to be settled as soon as possible before she became bedridden once more.
      xxxThe approach of the Stark House Warden was a relief. It would save her the trouble of tracking them all down in order to inform them of what they needed to know for the meeting. "Good evening to you as well, Dogfang. You are more than welcome to join us," she glanced between Dogfang and Halfjaw, making sure they were both listening before explaining the details of the meeting,"do either of you have any lord, lady, or noble promotions you would like to make? I would be grateful if you could ask the Wardens of the South and East as well. I plan on giving the three apprentices a proper ceremony, and then if you two have anything to add, you may step forward." She was cut short by the flustered approach of Cloudstorm.
      xxxThe queen felt more-so sorry for leaving Cloudstorm in the dark about her whereabouts. She knew that the molly was giving her newly assigned position her best effort. Swan was positive that she was the best fit for the task; it would merely take some time to get the hang of all the new assignments. "Do not fret, Cloudstorm. I should have mentioned my plans to you earlier." Her pale grey eyes scanned the clearing, noting the distance from where she stood to about the center of the beach. The more she stared at the distance, the longer it seemed to get. As she was about to start closing up the gap, her eyes found those of Moonblaze who lounged a few foxlengths off, ready for the meeting to be conducted. "Perhaps one of you could go speak to Moonblaze for me?" Swan suggested hopefully, wanting to reach the beach before the whole clan started to wonder when the meeting would begin.
Poppyfang & Quailpaw - Post 2 -
Quailpaw - Acolyte - Tagged: Swanfeather, Spottedcloud, the clan -
Obediently darting backwards, Quailpaw glanced unto her mentor. Spottedcloud was her idol and the young tabby would heed her every beck and call. Her brothers Tigerpaw and Dipperpaw claimed that made her a boring cat while Brindlepaw complained that meant she was a coward. But Quailpaw couldn't care less, she just wanted to learn all that she could and not even their mocking and barbed jibes could change her mind. Smiling at her mentor, Quailpaw glanced from the long-furred calico towards the old queen. Not convinced by Swanfeather's reassurance, her smile flickered wanly. She was scared, anxious that Swanfeather would keel over at any given moment, her legs would give way and that her heart would rumble to a stony stop. ''Be safe, Swanfeather.'' mumbled Quailpaw shyly.
She smiled back at the eager tom. He was energetic, even though the sun was starting to dip beneath the horizon. Poppyfang recalled the times of her youth, she'd never been quite so energetic. That was Cherrypaw, constantly getting into trouble and fighting with her mentor. Flicking her tail, Poppyfang trotted towards the clearing. Everyone was starting to gather, as silent as shadows, and their queen was starting to gather all her wardens. ''Swanfeather's about to hold a ceremony.'' Poppyfang informed. ''What ceremony I'm not sure...'' the red tabby admitted, eyes twinkling in the dusky light.
