Willowstep fell asleep resting her tired head on Nightstripe's back. She didn't dream that night, she was so exhausted.

Willowstripe lifted her weary head, blinking sleep from her eyes and yawned. The early light shined into the medicine den casting a dim glow over the cats. Willowstep's green eyes stared admiringly at Nightstripe as he continued to sleep, his injured side heaving up and down steadily.

Nightstripe sleeps through the night peacefully. He could feel Willowstep's presence beside him the whole time, and he felt safe. His wound wasn't stinging but it ached. It'd be better tomorrow. Nightstripe slowly blinks his pale green eyes open, and looks around.
It was dark, but the soft morning light shone through the entrance to the cave. For a few seconds he was confused, but remembered the events of yesterday. I hope the fire went out... Nightstripe's gaze lands on Willowstep. "Hello." He mews, and begins to purr.

Willowstep smiled. "No hunting or patrols today, Nightstripe. You'll open up your wound. I may not be a medicine cat, but I know you need to keep still." Willowstep licked him on the cheek. "Would you like me to organise the patrols?" Her tail raised excitedly. Yes! Deputy duties!She thought. She didn't really care about that as much as she did about Nightstripe's wound healing.

Nightstripe looks at her. She was right, he should keep still while his gash healed. Although her words were true, it didn't meant he liked it. But he knew jumping around trying to organise everything would only make it worse. "Of course." He laughs. "Maybe send a patrol out to examine the reaches of the fire, and until the prey returns, make sure no one is too greedy in regards to the fresh-kill pile..." Nightstripe murmurs, thinking about all the things that needed to be done. It was the worst timing for Willowstep to take over his duties; he was injured, and he felt helpless. Although he had full trust in Willowstep, Nightstripe just felt like he was passing all his troubles onto her.

"Of course Nightstripe. I won't do anything without consulting you or Wolfstar first though, don't worry. Remember, I was a born leader, being the first born In my litter. I grew up leading. Stay calm, and don't stress. I've got it under control." She knew saying all that was unnecessary,but she wanted to be sure.

Sunfoot purred and looked at them sitting together, they looked so cute, and maybe someday there would be kits. She walked to the other end to give them some privacy. She could check on Nightstripes sore in the morning. Still purring she curled up on her bed of moss. But stood up again and went outside, good, the fire was out, those two were together, now she could have a good, well deserved (in her mind) sleep. Going back to her bed she curled up and promptly fell asleep.

Willowstep stalked out into the clearing and greeted Acidrose and Shadowpaw with a friendly nod. "It's a big job but I think we should all go and check if the fire is completely out, mark the borders and see if there is prey to hunt. I have taken over for Nightstripe to let his wound heal. I will be leading the patrol." Willowstep liked having this authority. She knew it was a very big job, but it should be done by sunhigh.

Nightstripe stretches his paws out, and sighs. He felt helpless sitting here, he knew he should be out in the clearing arranging patrols and sending out fire checks. But he couldn't. All because he thought he could handle a forest fire on his own. Nightstripe closes his eyes tightly, pinning his ears back. I can't change what happened, I'll just have to wait it out. Next time, I'll think twice. He promised himself, blinking his eyes open. He lays in the den, warm light coming through the entrance and dappling the stony walls. I'll enjoy my time off while I have it...

Sunfoot poked her head into the nook where she stored all of her supplies. She looked around for cobwebs to put on Nightstripes cut, while moving around her nose nocked over a pile of hers mixing them together, she sighed and knew that she would need to sort them again. She wrapped some cobwebs over her paw and walked to nightstripe, "Ok," she mewed "This might sting a bit but I need to put these no to make sure that the gash doesn't open again." She reached out but he recoiled. Now she was getting anoyed "Come on, I have to do this" She firmly wrapped the cobwebs around the gash, much better she thought.

nightstripe hisses, flinching slightly. he was glad they had such a skillful medicine cat, but sometimes he wanted to claw his own tail off listening to her. she was always right, and it tugged at his fur. "thanks." he mumbles, shuffling his paws. his wound felt strange now. "how long will I be like this? can I start sending patrols tomorrow?" nightstripe mews hopefully.
