This gentle mermaid was raised from a young age to be a healer following the path that her mother had carved out for her. As a child Rosalyn was taught which creatures and plants under the sea would grant life, heal as well as bring pain or even death if it was called for. Thoroughly enjoying her work Rosalyn began to experiment with the plants that she could find within reach on land to create new and possibly even more powerful concoctions. Curious about their remedies Rosalyn on occasion will approach the sunken wrecks that once held the name of ship and try to collect what she can from the healers quarters in order to improve her own craft. Impulsive and curious by nature Rosalyn can't deny that she's always wanted to learn more about the human creatures that travel across her realm in wooden crates. Despite her curiosity Rosalyn, as a healer, cares for her people and would never purposefully put them in harms way to state her impulsive nature. The man with a silver tongue, born to a merchant family in a popular trading port. Being the son of a fairly wealthy merchant Brian was given lessons in reading, writing, and arithmetic in the hopes that he would carry on his fathers good work in the trading field. Learning more than just english Brian it seemed had a gift with language, no matter which one he was learning it took the man only a few short weeks for him to learn and become proficient in any language. Joining his fathers crew as an interpreter Brian quickly became an asset in his fathers quest to make deals with people from all over the world. Learning quickly that sometimes you had to stretch the truth or say what others wanted to hear in order to get what you want and like a fish to water Brian became incredibly proficient in persuading people to do what he wanted. Quick and clever while he was in his late teens his fathers merchant ship came across a burning wreck, despite what everyone around Brian told him he set out to investigate in a small lifeboat. As he got closer he could make out a singular figure still struggling against the waves and pulled them aboard. The assistant to the great detective Skulduggery Peasant, Valkyrie Cain was introduced to the world of magic when her uncle passed under mysterious circumstances that she would later find out was murder. A descendant of the last ancient (the first wielders of magic) Valkyrie had always had magic running through her veins, she'd just needed someone to show her. Skulduggery the functioning, ego-maniac, skeleton detective surprisingly took the quick-witted (and rather sharp-tongued) girl under his wing and just like that she became his assistant. Introduced to more and more strange characters that inhabited this hidden world of magic Valkyrie became incredibly loyal to those she thought of as a friend. Learning not only about magic Valkyrie was also trained in Kenpo Karate, Muay Thai, Krav Maga and Capoeira making her more than a match for any of the criminals that the duo runs into. Quick and clever in the years that she's worked with the famed detective Valkyrie has developed her own intuition and deductive abilities and while nowhere near her partners' abilities, she can outsmart many of the adversaries they come across. Admittedly a little selfish Valkyrie has always wanted it all and once she was introduced to a world where the extraordinary could happen it definitely didn't lessen her thirst. Perhaps a little too cocky for her own good being partners with an even worse ego-maniac hasn't helped curd Valkyries penchant for bragging. Capable and independent Valkyrie will often get riled by those who look down on her, the people who see nothing but a young child with a disturbing habit of causing trouble. When faced with those she doesn't like it's a miracle when the situation doesn't boil down to fists, an aggressive person Valkyrie won't back down from a challenge and is always there to protect the people she cares about. With a darkness in her past, Valkyrie understands the draw to power and evil but she also understands the strength that it takes to resist and defeat that evil. Still working with The Skeleton Detective, Valkyrie has cut all ties with her family including her baby sister in order to protect them from the kind of life she lives.

Born the daughter of a simple peasant family it wasn't long before Guinevere was plagued by what she thought were nightmares. Soon her parents recognized that the things their darling girl saw in her dreams were coming true, frightened by her gifts Guinevere's parents sought help from the local wise woman also commonly known as the witch. The perk of being born a cold blooded killer is that you don't have to lose your humanity as it was never truly there to begin with. Born with the need to consume the 'blood of the innocent' Avis has never had qualms about killing to survive because for her it is a constant part of her life. Raised by a small clan of djinn that travelled up and down the east coast in order to avoid suspision never staying in one place too long and always picking out those humans that wouldn't be missed. Growing up quickly on the road Avis understood why they needed to move constantly and hid their identity from the rest of the world. Becoming a proficient killer in a matter of decades it wasn't long before Avis was given the job of hunter, going out and identifying the clans' next meal.


djinn- a creature most associated with big blue genies and three wishes, a djinn is not so 'heaven sent'. Considered a subspecies of vampire a djinn like their immortal counterparts feeds off of the blood of the living to survive. A very nomadic species djinn often operate alone or in pairs but very rarely in a larger group which explains why though there is very few djinn in the world they are spread across the globe. A djinn has a very long lifespan in comparison to humans being able to live to be over hundreds of years old and still retaining a youthful appearance. Among their abilities is a strength and speed comparable to that of a vampires ensuring that even a child djinn can take out a fully grown man. Their last and most unique ability grants the djinn an ability to send a person into a coma with a single touch where that person will experience their heart's desire. The cost for such an ability, however, is dear, the longer a djinn banishes their victim into a coma the more taxing it is on the djinn itself leaving the creature greatly weakened and open to attacks. A djinn will normally use this power to render their victim defenceless while they feed on their blood, but they can also use their superior speed and strength to subdue prey much bigger than themselves. Until a djinn attacks, you wouldn't be able to tell that they were anything but human, only when they use their unique ability do their tattoos, glowing blue eyes, and sharp fangs surface. The only way to kill a djinn is to stab its heart with a silver blade dipped in lambs blood, however, blood loss from regular weapons and extreme amounts of brain damage can slow a djinn considerably.

No one knows where Rosemary came from. In truth Rosemary is not even this ravenhaired womans real name. Born the daughter of a sailor and a woman from across the world Kanti grew up waiting on a dock, staring at the horizon, and waiting for a familiar shilouette to appear. Loving ships from a young age whenever she could Kanti would find a way onto the one her father was currently sailing upon and one day she stowed away planning to surprise her father when they were far enough away that he couldn't send her back. Four hundred years ago the dragon clan of Portath was blessed with a child, a small dragon with silver scales by the name of Mira Portath. Her father, Ryuu Portath, was a great friend of the Elder clan but, he did not believe in the war with the humans; he thought that if the two leaders could just talk that it would become clear that this fight was a pointless one and that the only solution was peace. Ryuu taught his daughter to value all life, even those of the cockroaches that attempted to kill her kind day after day, he would have taught her a great deal more but forty years before the treaty was signed Ryuu was killed by a group of soldiers. They had mistaken the black dragon for another that had recently burned an entire town, Ryuu had never once harmed a human being but that didn't stop them from taking his life. When Mira learnt of her father's fate, everything he had taught her was forgotten in her fury at the humans who had killed them. In her blind hatred, Mira joined the battle against the humans, killing and burning just as her father had hoped she wouldn't.
For years after her father's murder, Mira let her rage possess her, with her quick mind and her challenging nature Mira soon came to be one of the fiercest warriors in this bloody battle. She wouldn't stop, she couldn't stop for this was -as terrible as it was her way of grieving for the loss of her father. It seemed that she would continue on in this way forever when something stopped her, actually someone, her mother finally stopped the madness and reminded Mira of what her father stood for and all the things that he had taught her. In this moment Mira realized with horror she had betrayed everything that her father had tried to teach her.
With this knowledge, Mira left the battlefield behind in the pursuit of peace and redemption. Like her father, she would speak to the Elder Clan hoping to convince them that this war was not the right path that these humans, these cockroaches were worth something. A year passed by before the Elder Clan actually listened to what she was saying and began trying to form a treaty with the humans. What came after that was the most difficult part of journey making peace with the humans, for five years Mira tried to settle on a treaty with the humans that both species could agree to, for weeks at a time Mira would spend in a human village arguing back and forth with generals, lords, and a few times The King himself. It was during this time, despite her age Mira proved that she could be intelligent, quick-witted, and decisive not only on the battlefield but in the council room.
Finally, in Mira’s three-hundred and ninety-ninth year on this earth, a treaty was signed between the elder clan and the royal family and while many celebrated the end of bloodshed between the two species there were those both human and dragon that protested such a treaty. Some among the humans viewed Mira as a treacherous snake who had wormed her way into the graces of the royal family and would someday betray their trust, while those among dragons viewed her as a cockroach lover not fit to call herself a dragon. Of course, there were those who admired and appreciated all Mira had done to bring about the end of a centuries old war but all Mira sees is the work left to do to rebuild her fathers dream.
