Momomoon | She-cat | Honeyfur

Momo visibly recoiled, tears stinging her eyes. She had only meant it in a teasing way and now Honeyfur was lurching around, hissing like the very act of being around the bobtail was painful. She took a step forwards and then several back. "I'm sorry? I didn't mean to upset you like this? Are you- are you alright?" The she-cat bit her lip, wanting to give the medicine cat a comforting nuzzle, though admittedly for more reasons than just comfort, but judging that such an action might just make Honeyfur lash out again and this time, at her. So instead Momo just stood there at an awkward impasse with the pretty she-cat that made it so hard to look away.

Barkknot | She-cat | Soulclan

Barkknot couldn't see precisiely what was happening in front of the nursery, nor could she hear what the little ones were saying, but by the group's body language it had to be good. She shuffled along the edge of her dip, trying not to attract attention as she gazed upon the kits- it was doubtful a Soulclan cat would take kindly to her bloodshot eyes tracking their young. The way one of them threw her head up in laughter, and the way the other arched her back in scorn, made Barkknot's heart ache happy. They were so much like Claywhistle and Asptail that it hurt. Barkknot had fallen right back into her trap of worrying about her brothers when one of the queens looked her way and then charged. The tabby's fur floofed with fear and she ducked right back down into her dip."I wasn't going to hurt them! Please, I wouldn't-" But feared blows were really nuzzles, and echoing growls purrs. And when her shadowed attacker turned out to truly just be a grinning Cinderblaze, the prisoner thought her heart would drop out of her chest in relief. "C-Cinderblaze! I-I-I, uh, I, Asptail, uh. You don't know? I..." Barkknot trailed off, unable to do much more than stutter.

Moonshadow watched the shivering, smaller cat leave as she sat on the ground, completely calm once again. She looked at the tom with a neutral expression. "yes?" she asked when he turned towards her.

Once out of sight of the Tumbleclan cats, Sedgetail began firing off a series of questions at her clanmates. "How's everyone? Are Shimmerpelt and Harespring okay? What about Willowpaw? Who was mentoring her? Are- Morningstar cut her off, sending his former apprentice an amused look. "Everyone's fine. We've moved back into camp since the flooding went down. Shimmerpelt and Harespring were worried but they'll be so happy to see you. Lilystem was Willowpaw's temporary mentor but we got you back just in time. Lilystem has moved into the nursery." He told her. Sedgetail listened intently, eager to know how her clan was. It was a relief to know they were all okay. "Willowpaw must be just about ready to become a warrior. I'm so glad I'm not going to miss her ceremony! Lilystem and Chiveclaw have finally become mates then? That's wonderful!" When they crossed the border into Caveclan territory, Morningstar and Woolyfur pulled ahead to tell the clan that Sedgetail was back.

Hawkfeather and Sedgetail had stopped, facing each other quietly. "Before we get back, I think we need to talk." Hawkfeather murmured quietly.
There was no need for Sedgetail to return, angry about what Shimmerpelt had said. "I suppose." The silver tabby was reluctant, more interested in going home. The Tribe wasn't something Sedgetail wanted to talk about right now.

Cinderblaze a bit too happy to see Barkknot to really hear the slight panic she had spoke in upon the queen's arrival, but she didn't miss the last words the prisoner said. She tilted her head to the side, eyes furrowed I confusion as she beamed a smile at her friend. "What do you mean? I don't know what?" She asked with a chuckle, always failing to understand the shy molly. But she didn't mind at all. With an amused purr, she began to look around. "Oh whatever. So who are you hear with? Is Jaystar and Sorrelstar meeting? Making amends after the war? And how's Asptail?" She asked again, desperately wanting to know about the tom she loved.

((You finally caught on~ When I first told the names I mentioned how Cinderblaze was taking page from Sorrelstar's book~ Yes, ABCD~ ))

"A-Asptail's um okay." Barkknot opted to answer the easier, though mind you not easy, question that Cinderblaze had posed. She fidgeted with her paws nervously as she spoke the words that weren't really lies but weren't really truths either. "He's been really stressed lately, but he uh asked about you? I uh know about uh you know." The dark tabby flicked a ragged ear in the direction of the nursery where her nieces and nephew still frolicked. It was a bit funny, that now that she had the opportunity to tell Cinderblaze what she had been supposed to since the beginning, she really didn't want to. The she-cat was happy and Barkknot was loath to ruin that. What does it matter? She won't be happy to see you once she knows your other secret. "Umm.. no I don't think they're going to work things out. Jaystar she... No I mean I-" Barkknot had to swallow a few times to get past the bloackage in her throat, "I killed Aspenleaf and Jaystar holds it against my mum. But Sorrelstar didn't do anything! The only murderer is me- it's my fault!" Barkknot absolutely completely had to convince another cat of this. At this point she was used to being hated, but they couldn't blame Sorrelstar! Her cheeks felt wet and the she-cat realized she was crying. She pulled back from her old friend with fearful wide eyes. "I'm sorry. I'm so sorry."

Cinderblaze's smile grew larger once she heard Asptail was doing fine. The last time they met he seemed so worried until they confessed under the setting sun. Ah she remembered the day as if it only happened seconds ago. A moment she held so close and, when the time was right, she would relay to their kits. "I'm glad to hear he's doing fine. Though I'm not too surprised he's stressed. Claywhistle's jokes would do that to him am I right?" She joked herself, giving Barkknot a friendly nudge be free sighing. "Ah, but his duties are important. Despite that he always made time for me. He's perfect." She said, purely love struck at that moment. "Ah! I don't think you ever knew but, heh, no point hiding it from you. Those are Asptail's kits. And they are gorgeous. Glad to hear he's loving me from afar still." She purred, tail happily flicking back and forth as she watched Sorrelwhisper join in with the kits' fun, letting them climb her and such.
Her happiness though was melted away though as she looked at Barkknot with utter disbelief. She had only heard of Aspenleaf's death. How here life was horribly snatched away. But she never heard details of who or why. Just that she was murdered. She had wanted to ask who it could have been, but she had great suspicions that if she asked around, the ones she believed were the cause for it would hear and inflict the same gruesome actions upon her. But to think, Barkknot. Shy, sweet, and caring Barkknot could do something so awful. She didn't want to believe it. But the molly was saying so herself. Cinderblaze was truly at a loss for words, ears flat against her head as she inched away from the cat she thought she knew slightly. And yet, deep in her soul, she couldn't bring herself to believe it. After a mass amount of hesitation and bitter thoughts, Cinderblaze sat down completely then laid down. "I-I... I'm not really sure what to say really.... why? Why did you do something so awful. Why were you even in Soulclan territory? Just to kill someone? I don't understand why you'd do something like this.." Her tone was a mix between shock, anger, worry, and fear. She wasn't sure what she should be feeling right at this moment. But it made her feel a bit sick... Surely someone put her up to this? Framed her maybe? Sorrelstar? No, Barkknot said it wasn't her... but who? And why?

((Glad you like it~ Because I can't imagine the kits being but mixes of Asp, Clay, and Bark. They must take after their father's family or they wouldn't be perfect~))

"I don't know," the prisoner answered miserably. How many times had she been asked that question? And how many times had she replied with the exact same answer? But this time it hurt even more, because every other Soulclan cat just saw her as a Beechclanner. Typical, they would say, of course she would turn out to be a murderer. But Cinderblaze had been her friend, she had been so happy to see her just a moment ago. She expected better of you. They all did. And you let them all down. Barkknot sniffled pathetically, her throat all dusty and clogged up which made her wish she had a better source of water than just cave runoff. Like the stream back home. Which I'll never see again. "I-I didn't come to kill. I came to talk to you. But the Thoughts- the ones that always said kill kill kill kill, they must have- must have taken ove-over. I can't trust me, no one ever should have. This is where I belong." Trapped and cold and starving? You think that you'll be free, or that you'll just be too weak to obey? You still have enough strength to take her. Come on, just one blow to that soft belly fur- that's all it would take~ Come on you good little murderer, you darling little killer. If you've let one group of cats down, why not fulfill the other's expectations? Her claws unsheathed before her tear-filled eyes, paw trembling and mind muddled. One blow little girl. No! One blow you foxheart, you wretch. Do something right for a change! No! I SAID DO IT! "No!" Barkknot bit down on her rouge paw, tasting metallic as her claws stopped twitching and her Thoughts dulled to murmurs. Panting heavily, paw still in jaws, the she-cat realized just how deranged she had seemed, just how obvious it must be to Cinderblaze that she was slipping, that she was dangerously close to gone. Good. Maybe she'll stay away and be safe.

Cinderblaze was, admittedly, feeling uncomfortable around Barkknot. She didn't want to see the molly as a murderer, there was no way Barkknot was... and if she was... w-well Cinderblaze didn't want to hate her. But that want as easier said than done, but the queen managed to push down the feeling anyway. She wanted to be a friend..
Though at the mention of being the reason for Barkknot's appearance in Soulclan territory, she felt her ears pricked up in surprise. What ever could Barkknot want from her? And these 'Thoughts' who were they an how could they have been so influential to make a sweet cat kill? Thoughts... they sounded so dangerous. Cinderblaze began to think, but then she flinched back as Barkknot's claws showed themselves. Dread began to fill her, worried that the 'Thoughts' were trying to get her to kill again, this time her. She began to fear the worse, struggling to get to her paws in time. But in one swift motion, the prisoner bit her own paw, shocking Cinderblaze right to her paws to step away. Clearly something was so so very wrong with Barkknot. And with each frightened heartbeat it was becoming more and more obvious to her. "W-Why do you do that?"

"I-I-I-I don't, I d- I'm sorry?" Barkknot stared down at her paw as blood cut lines through the dusty surface of her paw pad. It hurt and hurt and hurt and had brought her no relief. But staring down at the wound had given her a moment of startling clarity. Sorrel-Sorrelstar always said, "No matter what you think or what you've done, don't take it out on you. Your mind is stronger than your body and your heart stronger than your mind but each control themselves and you control them all." I'm sorry mom. Oh how confusingly comforting it was to imagine her mother's words instead of the Thoughts, but she doubted it would last long and doubt would come creeping back in. "I just wanted to stop the Thoughts. I'm not powerful enough to overthink them but this-" she shuddered and began to lap up the blood, "This didn't help. I-I wanted the keep them from overtaking me again but-but-" Barkknot sighed and kept her eyes on the stone before her. "What am I doing? What is happening? I was doing fine but then you came with your disappointed eyes and too-good-to-be-true kindness and I- I just want my mom." The prisoner swiped at the dampness of her cheek, but her tears flowed too freely to be cleaned like that. For the first time, in a long time, she just let herself cry freely. And the tears she had been holding back for too long, began to wash her clean.
