what kind of demon is he?:

"first off, don't call me a demon.
that's highly offensive."

hide is a type of demon commonly just referred to as an evil spirit. interpretations vary, but in hide’s case, he was originally human. because he died young and lived a rather unfulfilling life, his spirit floated around in limbo for a long while, where he wasn’t quite dead, but was just sort of... asleep. all his contempt and hatred lead to him being he re-awoken as he is now.

in demon society, these spirits that become demon, rather than being born as one, are considered to practically be peasants. this is for two reasons: spirits were once human, and humans are highly disliked by most demons. secondly, these spirits aren’t very powerful. they’re often just used as messengers and errand boys, or they tend the shops when the owner is there.

but while hide is one of these frowned-upon spirits, he has more talent than most with his demonic abilities. or at least, that’s what he managed to trick everyone into thinking with no more than some power of persuasion and sneaky hands. most spirits are very confused at first, but hide took his reawakening as a chance to live a better life - a more interesting life. (notably, he doesn’t remember his human life. all he knows is that it was pretty terrible - as it would have to be for him to have even become a demon).

hide appeared one day in demon society, and put on this high-and-mighty act. he pretended to be an arch-demon, and in various instances when he was told to prove it, he did. till this day, he has no idea how exactly he escaped these situations alive. he’s considered many times that perhaps he’s got some sort of power relating to luck, or chances, because things randomly tend to go in his favor.

except, even with all the luck in the world, he couldn’t keep up the act, and so eventually his lies were uncovered. he bolted and never once looked back. he skipped town and ended up making his stay in the human realm (where people are very wary of demons, but are aware they exist - and that some of them might not kill you if you’re careful). these days he’s just some vagabond who gets lost as every corner. he travels all around japan, but hovers more around big cities. his life basically consists of bailing on restaurant checks and reading fashion magazines at the supermarket. (he hangs out in places with food.)

he harbors a hatred for most demons now, seeing as how they're so petty. it's not like he chose to just be some lowlife spirit >:v

what kind of demon is he?:

A lesser demon who used to serve as a book stand or other plebeian tasks for arch demons, but he has abandoned his post to have a taste of the mortal world.

Then Vir heard rumors about the ephemeral, but lively realm of the humans from other demons. It wasn't like he was doing anything illuminating in the miserable pit, but humans? They sounded like so much fun. He heard they razed empires to build towers spires to show their greatness. Individuals devoured the livelihood of others to elevate their power.

However, when Vir reached the surface, he discovered that not all of them were able to create empires, but they vibrated with life regardless. The cesspool of human emotion is enough for any demon's hunger to be sated, so he feeds on the negative energy that they give off, whether that be destructive intent or low morale.

This demon is a man who wants to have some fun and dance to good music. So his standards are pretty low, all things considered.

Just as he took notice of humans, apparently humans took notice of him too. They knew it would be a great party if he stuck around and noticed that even the more violent party goers mellowed out during the party. Chat him up with some food and he'll be sure to stick around.

So from a footstool to a patron of human parties, Vir considers it a step up in the world.
