It has an around 50% capture rate, so it isn't really improbable to catch one in one go with a normal pokeball.

Smashy wrote:I don't think Pokemon GO has any seasonal spawns right now, the only thing that matters is the country/continent and the biome you're in.
Most spawns have set rarities in the biome that they spawn in but from what people have been posting it looks like Swinub is the odd one out where it's common in some places (around here) and rare in other places.
If you're looking for Swinub make sure you're in an area that mainly spawns Shellder, Seel, Jynx and possibly also Drowzee which are reported to spawn in the same biome.

From what people have been posting around Pokemon Go communities, people are speculating that Swinub is seasonal. I live in an area where Swinub was a plague when Gen II came out. They were the new Pidgey, maybe worse because I saw them in clusters. Ever since the seasonal shift from winter to spring (which coincided with the water event), I've seen a massive decrease in Swinub. Many people over the world that live in Swinub-heavy biomes have reported the same thing.

I don't see why with the release of Gen II, Niantic couldn't have added a new spawn point feature where some Pokemon are more common during the winter or summer. We saw Drowzee spawns decrease majorly around the same time Summer was ending, so it's possible that we may see Drowzee come back for the summer. If you live in a Drowzee area.

how many pokemon do you have?; 184 caught, 210 seen
what team are you on?; mystic

very close to finally evolving my growlithe, I only need 7 more candy! I should be able to walk the 21km needed by the end of this week, though I certainly wouldn't complain to hatching one or finding one nearby.

The 10 km Gen 2 pokemon are really common though... I've never seen the 10 km Gen 1 that often here. Have an army of Sudowoodoo, Gligar, Mantine and Skarmory already.
Not from the egg event, but caught. They spawn so frequently here.

Also, I didn't own a Snorlax at all before the 23rd.
And now I have... four. o_o;
Caught on 23rd, hatched on 25th, both caught and hatched one yesterday.
This is madness.

Thats ridiculously lucky tho
I've only seen one skarmory and it despawned before I made it to the pokestop (and it really wasn't there anymore, I walked all around and it was gone, rip). I've caught 1 gligar and 2 mantine iirc, while sudowoodo is a bit more common, no snorlaxes for me and I'm almost lvl30 :')

It's possible they've added seasonal spawns or they realised there were far too many and they tweaked the numbers.
This is the first time they've added a generation of pokemon so I'm more inclined to believe they messed up on one of them and fixed it.
Maybe I'm also struggling to believe the seasonal spawns because I'm not a big fan of it, I thought that's what biomes were for...

What.
Sudowoodo is the only one common to me. I mean, I did see two Mantine at one Pokestop on the nearby list once, and then caught another elsewhere, and that's the most common out of the rest. I think I have caught two Gligar? But have yet to catch a Skarmory.

That's what I get for being in a rural area with nowhere to walk from my house, I guess. My best catches are at work since sometimes more uncommon 'mons pop up (caught a Bayleef yesterday). I actually caught my Snorlax in the middle of the woods while going to a friend's house.

At least I'm getting more Sneasel than I thought I'd be getting?

Sudowoodo, Skarmory, and Mantine aren't common for me, but they aren't ultra rare either. I've caught around 2 Skarmory and seen more. Seen a Gligar and caught a Gligar. Caught two Mantine and seen a few more.

I'd still call them rare, but they're certainly not on the same level as Chansey, Dragonite, Lapras, Snorlax, etc.
