This is the only thing I've ever asked of you and-" "You think this is my choice?" Jhumar's voice broke a little as it became clear to her that her king was blaming her for what was happening, or rather, what was not happening. Waleed's lips were starting back in a snarl and she didn't dare protest that she had no control over anything. "I'll get pregnant this time, I swear," the queen promised pitifully, trying to lick her mate on the chin. He rejected the gesture and gave her yet another look that clearly said you'd better.

"I'm going out for a walk," Waleed declared finally, "I need to get away." The subtext was clearly from you and it worried Jhumar greatly. Even when her king had gotten upset at her before, he had always chose to sleep, not walk, it off. "I'll come with you," she offered, struggling to her paws thanks to the sudden pain that flared up in her back. "No, you won't. You're no use to anyone hurt." Waleed's harsh anger faltered for a moment and his small smile betrayed the kind of love they had had so definitely a few months ago. He gave her a rough lick over the ears and then vanished into the white. "But what good am I too you if I stay put?" Jhumar asked the sleet sadly as her mate's shadow disappeared. If she were to rest and recover, perhaps her body would heal. But if she were to rest and recover, she knew her heart never would. If she didn't do something to prove her worth, Waleed for forget that he ever loved her and move on. But if she caught food, if she caught him boar or anything like that and then gave him cubs? All would be forgiven and they could go back to being happy. The queen stumbled out into the blizzard, ignoring the cut that stung each time a snowflake hit it. Her heart hurt much more than her back ever would.

Waleed's cut grows worse, the blizzard tenderizing the wound and giving it time to grow a slight infection.
Jhumar chases a baby antelope, but slips on a sheet of ice and loses it. The rest of his efforts are fruitless, and he catches nothing.
Jhumar and Waleed are unsuccessful in getting cubs.

Unathi hears a quiet whimpering, and finds a half starved cub behind a snow mound! It appears to be in it's younger months, about four months old. He is given the choice to leave it, kill it, or take it back to the pride.

The poor soul was still shivering as Unathi approached him. Eyes wide and fangs bared, Unathi pounced upon the half-starved cub. There was no point in trying to nurse him back to health, they were struggling to survive as it was. However Akuchi came to the rescue, she'd been following him for a while now. Glad that she'd been prowling after Unathi, the brave queen curled protectively around Ayomide. ''Don't you dare.'' she snarled boldly. ''I can nurse him back to life, just stop it.'' The lioness picked the mewling cub up by the scruff of his neck and strode off. ''T-thanks, miss.'' Ayomide mewled, still wide-eyed with fear. Akuchi smiled through his soft fur. ''It's quite alright, little one.''

Stomping his paws in fury, Unathi wasn't going to take this disrespect laying down. If she ever walked off without reprisal, he'd be a laughing stock of all the nearby kings. ''Akuchi, come back!'' he snarled charging after her. Mane bristling in the wind and paws thudding in the soft sand, he charged towards her. ''Akuchi!''

But the lioness did not turn around or heed his call, she sped up. Akuchi was always the fastest in her pride and she was the fastest now, charging headlong away from the furious Unathi. ''Ade Emem, please send a noble king.'' She murmured through the bundle of fur that was Ayomide.

Pride of the Shadowing Breeze
Number of Lions: 3 [1 male] [2 female]

Binti lets out a squeak as her mother curls her body around the newborn cub. She hadn't met her father; he must be out. She wriggled when Mwanga rasps her tongue over Binti's fur before they both fell asleep.

The RiverPride

The RiverPride are located within a semi-desert grassland area, the pride stays close to the river that is flowing through their territory and that is how they got their name. The area is rather small but a good home, the place does have a lot of grassy areas but also has open spots closer to the river. Its a rather flat area and only a few rocky areas are located around the borders. The lions are a rather peaceful bunch who won't just go look for trouble, they rather like staying hidden and keeping each other safe being kind of mysterious. They can be aggressive if being messed with and won't easily give up, but for the most part they only like hunting. The pride does move around often and are energetic but won't show themselves easily. As far as reputation goes no one really knows, still needs to be found out so for now they are just some hidden river staying lions.

"I've been given a warning. A.. a warning about a cub, born of the lioness you love." Zizi looked scared, and that frightened Kumuu, causing his hackles to slowly raise.

"Blood of the ruling paw will roar, causing the stars themselves to fall." As Zizi spoke, her voice sped, and her words cut off sharply as if she couldn't continue on. The queen lifted her head into the wind, her pupils shrinking as she listened. "And those kin of Dashian, those who have broken sacred bonds, will fall with them." The queen shuddered, even though it wasn't cold. She flattened her ears, turning away to head back to camp.

"Wait."

Zizi looked back at the king.

"How long have you known of this?"

The queen's eyes looked sad, and she lowered her voice.

"Since I first saw her. I am sorry, mfalme wangu."

Mwanga feels as if she has a whole pride of lions practising battle moves in her belly. She whimpers, calling Gizancha. ""I.. I think our cubs are coming...." she manages to say. The lioness is suddenly glad she hunted before while Gizancha patrolled.

Izem quietly watched the flowing water, he shook his head a bit and got himself to stand up then slowly walked over towards Ayo. The young queen looked over at him as she was grooming waiting to hear what he had to say. Izem sat down in the shade of the tree where she was resting and said: "We might need to go hunting Ayo... We don't want to die of starvation." Ayo got herself up and looked around on the quiet grass field then said: "I shall go hunting, the watering hole might this have a lucky meal." The male gave a nod but didn't want to stay here so he watched the lioness walk of and decides to go for a quick walk around the territory.

Kimmati was pleased with the catch they had made together- it should at least keep them going for a while, but she knew with the strain she’d put on herself for it, she shouldn’t be doing anything extra for a while. She knew the pile was enough for now, but at the same time, it was hard hunting at the moment, and it was positively freezing outside. Her stomach still ached from the earlier hunting.
They would not be able to resupply so much next time.
They wouldn’t be able to supply enough until she had given birth, or the seasons changed.
And it was cold outside; Raja was bound to get sick next time he went hunting. If he brought that sickness back to the cubs, that could be disastrous. She wasn’t going to risk her tiny cubs when they came, but they would need food, and if anything happened to Raja, collecting enough would be a struggle.
But what other option did they have? It was starve now or starve next month, and the seasons may have changed by then, or the cubs could be born and Kimmati might be able to go hunting, even if it were risky.
Starving later was better. If they were already starving by the time hunting improved, they wouldn’t have the strength to hunt then. But they’d had enough for this month. If winter clung on, it would be better to guarantee themselves enough food later.
That was foolish thinking, though. If food passed right by camp and she’d not been eating to save food, she wouldn’t even have the strength to catch it, would she? If she didn’t eat food, her cubs would starve inside her and die. If Raja didn’t eat- on purpose- he would weaken, and definitely not be able to bring back enough for them, even when hunting became easier.
That was, if he didn’t weaken from getting sick on his trip to get more food. It was better risking him getting sick than guaranteeing they both starve, however.
Kimmati was just hoping next winter would be easier.

Raja was determined to find more prey this time- his mate was close to giving birth and they needed the food. Thankfully the weather was kind and he managed to find an antelope of 3 servings!
With the warmer weather creeping in, Raja finds his running nose has dried and his sneezes ceased.
While she was resting, Kimmati went into labor! She was alone but fine and gave birth to two healthy cubs

"What were you thinking?! Have you lost your fur? I told you to stay put and then you waltz out in a blizzard and your cut gets worse!" Jhumar lapped at her back morosely as her king roared at her, her ears pinned to the back of her head both in submission and to shut out the noise. Her cut throbbed and she never could quite reach it which only served to frustrate her more. Eventually the queen just gave up the hopeless task and tentatively resettled herself in hopes that lying a different way would stop the pain. Meanwhile Waleed just raged on, stomping around her and clawing at the earth.
"You didn't even catch anything, what was the point?!" "I-I needed to prove I was a good queen. So you would still love me. Please my ki-" The male gave his mane a mighty shake and his mate a baleful stare. "You want to prove yourself a good queen? Get pr-" His roaring was interrupted by a sudden blubbering. Waleed stared down at his mate incredulously, who had covered her face in her paws as her sides convulsed. He had never seen her cry- not once in the, admittedly very short, time they had been together, and it terrified the mane off of him. The king's voice grew gentle and he bent over, peeling his queen's ashamed paws from her muzzle and lapping at her damp eyes. "I love you Jhu. And I know you love me, so cubs are inevitable. But you can't disobey me like that, what if you had gotten hurt? I can't fight the wind for you." Waleed snuggled down besides her, grooming her fur with uncharacteristic tenderness, and taking great care to clean her cut. The queen shivered under the pink tongue as it navigated her wound but she soon grew still as her sobs faded. "I love you so much it hurts," she told him, still blinking away her tears. "I'd do anything for you, anything so that you'd keep loving me and me alone." They both knew what the 'anything' was so neither said it. And neither commented on the growing fear inside their bellies that that 'anything' might not come true.

the lioness seemed in distress, perched next to the stream with her head drooped lazily in her paws. she felt warm,
the spring weather tormenting her with her cold. shiv simply watched her, giving a small sigh from the camp entrance. "nipsey, you shouldn't have left. see what you have done to yourself." the irritated female gave him a harsh glare, and the king instantly stood and went on a patrol, without another word.

nipsey rolled onto her side as her king left, feeling a bit of guilt. she wasn't feeling well, and she had taken that out on someone who meant the best. however, he shouldn't have said something so obvious and careless. a sudden pain in her stomach distracted these thoughts. it was at first a pressure, constantly pushing, and suddenly it was a stabbing pain that she wanted to go away. she gasped, stretching and clawing at the dead grass. "..shiv!"

Kimmati proudly licked her cubs clean once they were born, waiting for Raja to come to see them. One- the larger- was entirely silent, and didn’t even attempt to open her mother, while the other kept opening and shutting her mouth, and occasionally letting out squeaks that she clearly couldn’t yet hear. It was rather endearing.
Kimmati had actually already decided their names before Raja got back, wanting to make sure they had names that she would like in her own children; Mauna and Nana.
As he drew near, she stated her choices in name so matter-of-factly that there wasn’t much room to argue; when Raja tried, Kimmati told him that he would have far more cubs than this and he could help with naming many other future litters.
He eventually accepted it, and realised that this meant he would need to hunt again. But this time, there was far more hope for a good hunt. It was spring, prey was starting to re-emerge, and they already had a good catch. And no lion would be anything other than proud to look after two healthy young cubs.
