-airborne; the carrier has to tell a story for the infection to spread.
-virus that takes up all the emotional strength of the host
-attacks the lacrimal glands (tear ducts) - this irritates them and can cause the eye to water in a way which is definitely not crying
-sometimes it causes pandemics
-some major characters may die
-canon characters can also die but they always seem to resurrect for the main series again for some mysterious reason, which is definitely not just that we're not all Erin Hunters
