Link to Kalon: x xPrompt: From the moment Marina first entered the world, Deniz knew a sort of love they'd never known before. They love all three of their children very much, but they always felt a stronger connection to Marina from the moment she was born. They would never admit it to anyone, but they saw a lot of themself in her markings and her eyes. She's only grown to resemble them further in personality and style as she's grown. The two of them have always been very close and tell one another everything. Deniz is the first person Marina calls with any important or exciting news.
Workshop Three - Day Four ExerciseName of Kalon: Nyneve
Link to Kalon: xDescribe their pet/companion: She has a
pet wattled crane named Seisyll. The name is an ancient Celtic name, varying in popularity from the 4th to 13th century in Briton and surrounding kingdoms. Nyneve was born and raised in Briton not long after this period, and did not converse with locals in her home where she met Seisyll, so she chose a name in her native tongue that reminded her of home.
How did they meet their pet/companion?:For about ten years of her history, Nyneve took shelter in what's currently known as the Bangweulu wetlands of Zambia. Here, she took solace in working closely with the plants and animals of her new home. She practiced herbology in her spare time, and worked to preserve the balance of the ecosystem, helping foster seedlings of disappearing plants and dwindling animal species. Her favorite of the animals was her beloved wattled cranes. The population in the swamps near her home were already struggling with disease and a dreadfully slow reproductive cycle. The cranes lay eggs only once every two years, and should two eggs be laid, only one usually survives to fledge. The incubation process is the longest of any vrane species, and they are not fully grown for 150 days. During their time as an egg and fledgeling, young cranes are extremely vulnerable. This is the time period in which Nyneve steps in to help ensure all of her cranes make it to adulthood.
It took a long time for her to gain the trust of the cranes, but she eventually became very close to them. She was often followed around by chicks like a mother duck, and received visits in her den from sick, wounded, hungry, or simply lonely cranes. Soon, the cranes faced another threat Nyneve could not protect them from. Local civilizations began pushing further and further into the park. Habitat destruction and poaching became yet another threat to her cranes. The cranes, first trusting the local kalons because of their experiences with Nyneve, were extremely susceptible to poaching. Nyneve, fearing civilized kalons after her former experience in her hometown, could not protect them without risking her own safety. Soon she found her cranes beginning to force their young to hide in the tall grass when she was near, a practice meant to keep the young safe from predators. Their association of her with the poachers simply because of her species drove a wedge between them that she could not bridge.
One day, she watched as a terrifying, beastly kalon approached the lake that was home to her cranes. She watched in terror as the two headed beast found a chick in the grass, and lured it into its paws. To her surprise, he bonded with the crane immediately, and it nested between his heads, immediately finding him a suitable replacement for its recently poached mother. After a few days of observing him, she began to trust this kalon and approached him. They're now mates and took off on a journey to seek protection for her swamps and revenge for his past. The little crane followed them both, and the rest is history.
