I quite like having a lot of variant prefixes, if only so I don't accidentally overlap cat names so often.
But, yeah, I agree, I do like that different people use different conventions. Even so, it's still worth bearing in mind which conventions any potential names fit within.
I also think that name change names are inherently positive, but also because they sort of prove a toughness, not just how many battles there in- if you know that brokentail is still a warrior, not an elder, for instance, you know she's going to be very tough and determined. That's why I'd think that a scar suffix would also be positive, but they got the injury when they were young.
I like the idea of getting cats to agree on taking in prefixes from different areas. It would limit the number of fantasy-type creatures that could make names- and makes their idea of exploring far more reliable than the human one (like medieval people actually believed in people who used their single foot as a parasol...) -while also allowing their to be a good variety of names.
